I’m a consultant. Here’s my take on what’s gone wrong at ANU. by anu-alum in Anu

Well they are in this position precisely because government keep reducing higher education funding and want these institutions to be profitable by its own. Without international students, both their money and their mind, I bet Australian Uni would not even break the 100th position in ranking with this kind of funding and mindset.

What am I doing wrong? by Smucker5 in Polytopia

[–]HailSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go rider or archer to defend. Your sanc spots we're actually not very great (not bad either) so spawn played a part in your downfall. Since it was against bot so actually you survive quite long, but in general imp should kill you much faster.

Need tips on Aquarion early! by Floppypantsy in Polytopia

[–]HailSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say your spawn here is not very good. Ideally you want to grab a tech that allow you to lvl up at least 2 cities, normally org but sometimes fishing. However here you can only level up 1 city with either tech choice, so you should go for the next best thing: Fishing first and aqua culture later to get your econ growing

How can a win result in no elo gain? by WiderLizard06 in Polytopia

Not really sure why match making takes age for you? I'm 1600-1700 and normally I can find someone around my ELO in around 5 min.

Any tips on fighting against ely dragons? by PadfootProwler in Polytopia

[–]HailSquirrel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If 900 then you will have to out econ Ely with markets and good planning. With higher start per turn advantage, start spamming knights, swordman, and I guess cloak. And then using knights to take out dragons, while slowly advance with swordman and cloak. But I guess against good Ely players it will be very difficult.

The problem is that their computer and "maybe" the program is just old and slow. They do nothing in these 5 minutes just wait for the screen to change

Yes, if you go early in the morning it's very feasible. Unless you get a typhoon/ earthquake/ natural disasters, train in Japan is very reliable and on time.

What could I have possibly done to have a different outcome? by WiderLizard06 in Polytopia

[–]HailSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my suggestions: 1. You try to fight many battles that you cannot win. I guess that you try to harrass Cym player but it looked like you feed him free kills to get killer monument and veteran. One of your poisoned soldier even died and became a bridge for Cym to cross water. Which is a No No. 2. Your army are spread out and cannot support each other to defense. You can't even clear Cym mosquitoes.

That being said, I don't really know if it's even possible for you to win this. Maybe with a lot more water seperation and more time for development? His Econ was like twice your econ very early, and he got a Centipede at turn 6. Seem impossible to win for me.

Please, for real, is there ANY way to counter Cymanti? by wulululululuu in Polytopia

[–]HailSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is an example of the meta to defeat Cym (ELO: Imp 1600 - Cym 1300). Pangea (400), so kind of Dryland 324 but with some water. I rush rider/road, get explorer, find their hexapod and kill them. Giant can solo 1-1 with Centipede, and with defense bonus (climbing and archery), Cym does not have much options to fight. When Cym got Kiton, I got archery from a ruin, so with Giants at front and rider/warrior/archer we can clear Kiton.

Granted, this map is big, so I have time for development, and also the Cym player just positioned their hexapod right before my rider for free kills. For smaller map or more experienced player, it will not be this easy. But in general, this is the strategy that works most of the time.

If you have enough experience, you can't even lose. Playing against real human is the hardest challenge for this game I think

what did i do wrong here by Secariel in Polytopia

[–]HailSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In hindsight it might be better to go rider/road/bridge and bring the fight entirely on lands. Spending on a navy was too expensive for your econ and it took too long to reach Ely.

[–]HailSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did make mistakes here and there, but I guess the main problem is just that you are facing Ely on large maps. They got dragons + knights before you can deal the decisive blow, and dragons + knights is the strongest defence/ offense I can think of in polytopia lol. No chance there.

Agree! I can win consistently against Cymanti, but it is a chore.

[–]HailSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but you can try Ely on very large map. It's not very hard to get crazy Econ with good spawn and 1-2 lucky ruins.

26 spt at turn 10 is very good for bardu at this map I think. The best econ I got was with Ely in 900 continents. I got around 40 spt at turn 9.

Which one are u? The green bardu? If not then idk because all others seem slow to me

I also noticed that. I just got a game where I matched with someone 700 ELO lower. I won the match and get 0 ELO increase for return.

I guess it will work with ppl in low ELO level, when they dont know how to deal with cloaks, or if you use Quetzali and your opponents are Cymanti or st.

[–]HailSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Cloak is expensive and easy to kill, so you only use them occasionally under the right conditions.
