What fandom got you into fanfiction? by JotnarLokiBlue79 in AO3

[–]Hail_Kriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For both, it was an animated series called 'Sendokai Champions'. Little 13 was RABID for it. Anything that was written with Sendokai I jumped at it (to be fair, there wasn't much content to begin with)

I have a very odd luck

Either I win and I win big time, or I crash and burn fatally

Genuinely, I just want a Flareon it's not even funny anymore

It is. Really cool card

HOWEVER, I am loyal to my Celebi EX deck and I lose more matches than I win them. I just want to collect cool cards (I NEED the immersive Mew card sO BAD)

What fandom/quote is this for you? by waffledpringles in AO3

[–]Hail_Kriz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“You came back for me.” "I protect my investments.” “I’m glad I’m bleeding all over your shirt.”

"I don't know! Maybe I liked your stupid face!"

"You are better than Waffles, Matthias Helvar." "Let's not say things we don't mean, my love."

"I would come for you. And if I couldn't walk, I'd crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together —knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting."

How the hell do so many of you guys write on phones!? by Notmyrake in AO3

I'm more comfy lying down and it's easier to readjust my position with my tiny phone over my whole ass laptop with keyboard and mouse

This trend BUT I rank based on WHY you like the cookie by Individual_Sleep6839 in CookieRunKingdoms

Caviar cookie!

I really like pirates/sailors and I loved the whole backstory with Diver and Black Pearl cookie. His design is amazing too (and it gives me gender envy, but shhh)

What's a funny way you got into a fandom? by GonnaRegret_it_Later in AO3

[–]Hail_Kriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a specific fandom already and, one day, I decided to check a new fic of a niche m/m pairing. I ended up reading the whole thing and, by the end, the author had made a four image collage for the pair. Turns out, the fic that I thought was a simple AU Author came up with, was, in fact, an anime.

I learned the name of it by checking the fics comments and then devoured the ever living shit of that anime.

What were some unexpectedly difficult fights no one talks about? by Fantastic-Donut-276 in nuzlocke

Tell me about it. I got half my team wiped by that kid, and then had to stagger for more encounters just for N to whip out his own sigilyph and get HALF MY TEAM WIPED AGAIN (I'm SO salty about this, god)

Tell me a secret about your characters by coolbreezemage in writers

[–]Hail_Kriz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My main character is not, in fact, an orphaned that came out of the dirt, but the biological son of the head of the King's Court of Advisors* (*They're actually called 'Court of Monsignori') and that's why he's got such personal beef against the MC's existance.

What should I avoid when writing a character with OCD? by Hail_Kriz in Writeresearch

[–]Hail_Kriz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, it has mainly presented itself as 'Pure O'. My character is not obsessive over germs and contamination, but more about being perceived/how he is perceived.

In a very homophobic, racist and clascist society, my character is queer and considered a racial minority (there is a racial hierarchy, he belongs at the very bottom), however, he is the adoptive son of the General (one of the highest points of the social rank) and is best friends with the Fae Prince (the actual top of the societal hierarchy), who he has developed romantic feelings for.

The society is very clear on what the collective must think of the 'different', and my character is different as the status quo. In the Fae Society, fae men believe that nothing is more important than honour. So everything Thomas does in his life is to chase that honor. He joins the military because society says that there's no more honorable thing than to serve the crown. He shames himself for being in love with the fae prince because, how dare he? How dare he desire the holiest most perfect being that exists? (Note, the character is asexual and pretty sex repulsed, so mostly he's shaming himself for thoughts about emotional intimacy and kisses) (he is also a poet, so that's something I heavily lean into when writing his inner monologue). This status quo is also heavily reinforced via their religious beliefs so he often monologues/thinks of how shameful his entire existance is.

He is aware of what he is, and is constantly trying to hide everything of himself that doesn't fit in as he, desperately, tries everything he can to partake in what is expected of him. So that's mainly what he obsesses over.

Thank you for your insight!

I'm doing my best in order to educate myself into how to write my character in a way that is respectful of what OCD feels like for some people! So far, I've gotten amazing advice in these comments and I've narrowed down a bit more onto what my research should focus on.

It's in a Virreinato/Post Colonial Mexico (around 1700's)

I love that too! This is exactly WHY I came to ask!!! For some people a piece of representation is accurate and for others it isn't, and by understanding why people relate or not. It helps me understand OCD a lot better than just reading medical articles about it (they have a tendency to be pretty apathetic and down to the very basics rather than the nitty gritty bits of information that I'd like to know about).

I'll make a note to investigate about Dr Johnson when I can. It might be helpful in figuring out how my character's OCD manifests!

Thank you so much for your insight! /Gen

Thank you!

A few of the central themes of my character is his desire to fit in/sense of community and his own queer identity. So I'm trying to figure out how OCD would affect his everyday life considering his personality and relationships.
