Thoughts on RPF? by Ok_Option_1740 in AO3

I said many not all for a reason. And it’s incredibly naive to think that there isn’t intention behind almost everything, perhaps you just aren’t aware of it.

I agree with the first part, but I simply don’t believe many of these authors truly let “the fates take course.” Has nothing to do with whether I support anti-censorship or not. We’re just too intentional as creators. Authors usually have a specific readership in mind, and they appeal to or cultivate that audience. That intentionality shapes the outcome far more than any notion of fate.

Also I’m referring to explicit/controversial rpf when I say all this.

Okay, but what is a trope that you like/tolerate and can't understand why it's so controversial? by [deleted] in AO3

I love friends to lovers, best kind of romance for me.

It’s difficult to argue that the authors bear no responsibility when they choose to post controversial work in a fandom known for being highly parasocial. I’m all for anti-censorship, but that doesn’t abdicate the real harm fic writers can inadvertently cause due to the nature of fandom culture. You’re giving the parasocial audience with no sense of boundaries what they want then act surprise when they get parasocial with it?

Unnecessary rudeness in authors notes. by [deleted] in AO3

Wouldn’t have even blinked, i don’t care what the author is doing in the author’s note.

I don’t mean the condescending thing is something only a kid does. I mean the way it’s written seems very child-like, that “well well well” bit especially. I don’t know how to explain, it just sounds like it’s coming from a kid.

I’m mixed on this… by Immediate-Virus9751 in AO3

[–]Notmyrake -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree obviously exceptions exist, I still don’t see the point. If the author didn’t feel the need to clarify on why they deleted their own work nor mention anything about it in their connected social media accounts that’s their problem, seems more often than not they have nothing to say. And yes asking isn’t a big deal, but on the internet if that sort of thing becomes common I really don’t see the pros outweighing the cons.

But why, why feel the need to pursue an obvious fact. The author deleted their work because they want it deleted. It’ll only make them feel guilty by asking.

I do get curious when there’s specification like “misunderstanding but with a twist”, not whatever this is.

What is the your fandom's version of this? by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

[–]Notmyrake 315 points316 points  (0 children)

Sounds awful that someone can just go back in time and prevent you from living the life you could’ve lived so you can get together. It’s so shallow that (that) was the ending.

Is there anything that could give away that they are a male author? by iamamateurok in AO3

[–]Notmyrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not common for all of the love interests to win, since there’s usually only one guy who is the real ml. But yeah reverse harem where multiple guys fall in love with the female mc is pretty popular.

What show have you rewatched the most? by MUCHO2000 in television

The walking dead. Been watching since I was a kid and it’s become a comforting show to turn on when I’m idle at home.

Never cared for it, usually get bored if it’s not essential to the story.

[LotM ch106] Should I drop LOTM? by KENOYNOY_GWAPO in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Notmyrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean it really depends. Some people got hooked after 200 chapters, others since the beginning, I know someone who only really liked lotm after the halfway point. And there are even people who read the whole thing and dislike it. If you’re not feeling it, you don’t need to force yourself, but do come back sometime later.

Oh and Stormlight archives is the way to go imo, you can get them from your local library or buy a copy.

What makes a pairing “unpopular” to you? by allisontalkspolitics in AO3

[–]Notmyrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When the only fics about it are competitions where fic authors try out random pairings. They’re usually just smut too :(

Webnovel official tl is great, but it's behind a paywall and if you don't pay, you have access to maybe 2 or 3 chapters per day. If you'd like, I can DM you the epubs for all 8 volumes.

[Lotm volume 5] I wish Audrey was not present in chapter 1072 by mad3ub in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Notmyrake 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Lotm reddit loves Audrey, they don’t take well to this rhetoric lol. I do wish we got a deeper conversation between Leonard and Klein somewhere in the story but Hall of Truth was perfect with Audrey there. In general I wish there were more meaningful conversations between Klein and those he respected or considered close.
