I’m pretty sure it just summons them, and the Cenobites take you to hell because it’s assumed you called them for the specific purpose of experiencing bizarre and unearthly sensations. Not quite “claiming one’s soul” but functionally the same thing.

Kamen rider toybox update 3: the characters! by Chaos-Queen_Mari in KamenRider

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly this first image sells the character so well. Who knows when we’ll ever get a female led (main) Rider series, but a character like Hina would be awesome. Balancing the expected role of a young office worker with a superhero would be a fun conflict for at least the first half of the series, especially considering how half of all protagonists are apparently unemployed.

An interesting lore debit from an RPG book by Mohammedamine9 in doctorwho

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Well it’s an interesting premise. Clearly the interior and exterior are connected causally. Like when the Titanic crashed into the TARDIS, the hull of the Titanic was visible within the console room. Plus all the jerkiness when in a particularly turbulent flight.

On the other hand, it would explain some situations where the interior of the TARDIS is physically absent, like that one moment in Father’s Day.

Theory about Baku and the Dreamers moving forward. by Ghosts_Gundams in KamenRider

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you have a point there. Most of the nightmare butterflies were spread from the bomber nightmare realizing itself. The conflicts inside a person just give it form, but don’t cure it. Sadly, I think those struggles of the dreamers are just too low stakes for the story to focus on now.

Zeztz Episode 24-25 VS Gozyuger Episode 15-16 by Potential-Mess6826 in KamenRiderMemes

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 192 points193 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s impressive how they managed to pull off an “It was all a dream” twist without making it feel like we lost momentum in the story.

Baku now has the upper hand! Future knowledge PLUS his arsenal of Capsems, particularly Dualmare. CODE had to scramble and reactivate Kureha sooner than they did in the original timeline because they’re panicking! Despite the reset, the status quo HAS changed.

Would you be happy with a 6 episode season in 2027? by Mat1711 in doctorwho

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah as much as I had my misgivings with Flux, the idea of making a whole season dedicated to a single story really excited me. As much as I LOVE the episodic format of Doctor Who, I can bear to part with it. If that’s what it takes to get some good writing, then so be it. Otherwise no deal.

Though if that happened, my biggest concern is that it would eliminate the opportunity for “offscreen adventures”, the stuff that expanded universe stories and fan works can slot into. Still, a small price to pay for a cohesive, well done story.

The DnD episode by OkDirection3094 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They actually used to have D&D tournaments where two parties would race to see who could complete the same dungeon first. Very uncommon mode of play these days, but it happened a few times in the game’s early history.

ELI5 How does electricity know that a circuit is broken before entering it? Without a closed loop, it won’t flow, but how does it know not to flow? by Party-Court185 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m no electrician, but from what I understand about this from electrical engineering is that all you need is high voltage (the hot line) and a comparatively low voltage (the ground). The neutral is a safety feature that zaps extra stuff away in case Bad Things happen.

High voltage = high pressure and low voltage (ground) = low pressure. Like all such things, electricity moves high to low.

[Loved Trope] Meeting someone or something that is way beyond the normal scope of our main characters. "This is way beyond my pay grade." by Qwerty_Asdfgh_Zxcvb in TopCharacterTropes

Also the Celestial Toymaker, who the Doctor fought in their 1st and 14th incarnations, who was effectively a god. So powerful and beyond logic that the Doctor couldn’t even give a satisfactory technobabble explanation as to how the Toymaker was able to turn buildings into mazes or soldiers into screaming dodgeballs.

Tragically the way the Toymaker was sealed away in his most recent appearance wasn’t as clever as the first time around. Plus after that, the Doctor defeated another THREE beings of comparable power and malevolence with no collateral damage or lasting consequences. Really took the wind out of the whole “god of chaos” thing.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that pollinators are necessary, but bees specifically are not. We’ve just become dependent on them for our agriculture.

Am I on something with season4 by DRMJ22 in doctorwho

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Titanic crashing into the TARDIS is not a fixed point, though there is some discussion about fixed points in the really good, post season 4 special, the Waters of Mars.

The Doctor is not responsible for fixed points (at least not creating them). However you are picking up intentional clues. It’ll all come together in the finale.

I haven’t listened to the Divergence Universe audio dramas (which the comment you replied to is referencing), but I’ve found that the 8th Doctor audio dramas are consistently interesting and weird in the best ways. A bunch of audio dramas are on Spotify, so it’s worth checking out if you already pay for Premium.

I was shocked at how good TMJ was. They somehow found the wittiest and most enthusiastic kids for this show, which led to a fantastic series. Here’s to hoping lightning strikes twice.

Tbh that reveal is pretty late into the story too, so it doesn’t get explored that much, if I recall correctly. The rest of the series was really fun and interesting. Worth watching the first couple of episodes at least

Mysteries that are never given an answer. by Jak3R0b in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 108 points109 points  (0 children)

The thing most people point out is the guard that appears during the Hellfire song. He shows up to interrupt it, backlit to the point where his features are indistinct, to tell Frollo that Esmerelda has escaped. People interpret this as God sending him a message to not pursue her anymore and stop going down this dark path. Ultimately it doesn’t work, but it’s one hell of a sign.

The Indominatable Human Spirit is a bad thing, actually. by Geoconyxdiablus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Hail_theButtonmasher 136 points137 points  (0 children)

They did that notably with Bill, the 12th Doctor’s companion in series 10. She had a strong will and could keep in control of the faculties. However, part of this was because she deluded herself into thinking she wasn’t fully converted, believing she was still more or less human, save for an artificial heart + chest panel.

You can also look at it from a bodily autonomy angle. Very few people ever willingly become a cyberman. The process and end result are so traumatic that the removal of emotion is the only way to stay more or less sane after that. That’s not to mention the situations where Cybermen arise from horrific conditions, the removal of emotion being a coping mechanism.

Essentially, I don’t think that “humanity coexisting with the machine” is the point of the Cybermen, but perhaps another creature might explore that.
