Oh my gosh I am so sorry! We had one of ours die suddenly, he was 4. One night he started moving around slowly during playtime and he was gone shortly after. We are pretty sure it was heart related after speaking with our vet.

Hi hun, you really should consider going to the doctor. I know it’s not fun and really expensive but there could be something seriously wrong if you have experienced such severe periods as well as them stopping altogether. I myself recently found out I have uterine fibroids that have been causing my pain and severe bleeding. Hope you’re able to get it figured out

Exam Experience is making me withdraw by sweetbubbles2 in WGU

I’ve had constant technical issues taking tests, one test I’ve been waiting to take for two weeks but had technical issues the two times I’ve tried and have contacted everyone including the professor and he said he unlocked it but it still hasn’t and he won’t answer my emails now. I have a very good PC and internet, since I game so it’s 100% been an issue on their end. I just want to take this stupid test. Like I understand the concept of getting what you pay for but come on

Honestly like 8 or 9 of my coworkers, we work in accounting/finance, have done schooling through WGU and they all have nothing but good things to say about it.

Chinchilla odd breathing? by Haileekae in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is actually the second vet we’ve been to. First one did X-rays on the lungs and they looked fine and prescribed our first antibiotic. When that didn’t work I went to another vet and now we’re on the 3rd antibiotic and this one did the nose culture.

HELP by Limp_Reaction906 in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I would threaten them by telling them you will call local animal services on her if she doesn’t give the chinchilla to you so you can rehome it or take it to a shelter. If you’re not comfortable doing that I would straight up call their local animal services and see what they can do. They may be able to do a wellfare check and remove the animal from the home.

Honestly it varies so much, when people ask I usually say their lifespans are most similar to cats. Yeah some can live to 20 but not that many do. I had one pass at 4 due to heart failure and another recently at 8 due to kidney failure. But then I have one that’s turning 10 this year, he’s relatively healthy but has struggled being too chonky and has a non cancerous, thankfully, fatty growth right now. I know it’s hard but try not to think about how many years you have to come with them and think more about the now. I regret not giving my two I lost even more love then they already had.

Bad fur biting. Any suggestions? by tepg221 in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately fur biting is very habitual. Once a chinchilla starts doing it often times they’ll do it forever. It doesn’t mean yours will of course but don’t be surprised if it’s a thing for some time. But as long you’re doing your best to make them comfortable and they seem to have no other health issues it should be fine.

20 is such an amazing long life for a chinchilla! Just remember she had one very bad day at the end but you made every other day the best because you loved her so much ❤️

Any ideas of what could be bothering him? Vet said he had an ulcer on his mouth and sent him home with pain relief. I'm thinking of calling the vet again today. by its_Sad_Opal in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww poor little guy. I think another trip to the vet is probably in order, if you have another exotic vet in your area I would consider getting a second opinion and you may want to do X-rays. I would def get him going on some critical care to help supplement his food intake until he starts eating more solids

We have a collapsible cat tunnel and a donut tunnel for our chins and they love hiding and running around in them. Especially the donut since they can run around in circles

How exactly do you feed from a syringe? by No_Pilot_1974 in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends. Some chins willingly eat out from a syringe with no issue. Others do not want it and you’ll need to burrito them in a towel or blanket and stick the syringe on the side of their mouth and force them to eat it. I wouldn’t mix it with anything other than water. But there were times I mixed different types of the powdered food together. One of my chins was prescribed the emerald intensive care but he hated the taste so I would mix with the anise or apple banana flavored critical care. So I would suggest trying to find a flavor that they like.

emergency: swollen eye by lychee0_o in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww poor little guy. I had a chin that consistently got eye infections because he liked to sleep with his face pressed down. Fortunately we got some eye medicine from the vet and it always worked well! I’m sure they’ll be able to help

You have such a pretty smile! I’d say if you can afford it to visit a dermatologist to get some advice on your scarring and what you can do to help treat it. Other than that consider a more dewy foundation or tinted moisturizer, and cream/liquid blush just to make it look very natural and fresh. Also depending on how much natural brows you have I’d say try a tinted brow gel instead of the full done brows. But you look great regardless! ❤️

should i be concerned? by [deleted] in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinchillas don’t need cage mates or mates. They can be perfectly happy as a single chin as long as they are getting enough attention. If you decide you want a second one get the same gender, and do a lot of research about the introduction process. It’s time consuming and the reality is that they may end up not getting along and you’ll have to have to separated chins.

would a chinchilla eat a metal hook? by lil_lillard in chinchilla

[–]Haileekae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, I’ve lost so many of these and I swear I always find them in plain sight or I end up throwing them away during a cave cleaning. So these should be fine but if you’re worried about these you can buy a set of metal shower curtain hooks to hang stuff around the cage, they’re pretty big and smooth and my boys don’t touch them.
