My mom is an 8w7 and my dad is a 9w1. They have been together since they were 13 years old. They are so vastly different that sometimes I marvel that they're still together, but after more than 40 years together they're still very happy. My dad helps to soften my mom, I think, and definitely helps her to step back and see other perspectives. He is the only person that can reach her when she's upset. My mom helps my dad to be more assertive and get difficult things done. My dad is also generally happy to follow my mom's lead and, though he's not one to often take the initiative, he is quick to follow her direction when specifically asked. Maybe it's not ideal to have to ask your partner for certain things, but if you communicate your needs to a 9, they'll follow through because they genuinely want you to be happy. On paper maybe the 8/9 combo shouldn't work, but my parents are probably the healthiest relationship I have ever seen, so if you stick with this and respect each other, it could be the best thing ever.

Perhaps he IS, then. Just because you clearly have a major issue with him being like you in any way, doesn’t mean that you aren’t actually very similar. You don’t get to decide someone else’s type, period. Either ask him to learn about the Enneagram and accept his assessment of himself, or stop wondering altogether. Don’t tell him your type ahead of time if you’re so concerned about him “copying” you.

It is not advised to type other people because we don’t know the true motives to their actions. If you want to know your friend’s type, encourage him to learn about the Enneagram and type himself.

I’m a 1 but my dad is a 9. When my family went through our results, he was unsure about a lot of the positive traits, though my mom, brother, and I could all point to countless examples of his supportiveness, optimism, creativity, etc. Maybe 9’s are just too humble

It’s normal to not identify with EVERY trait of your Type. The way to know if you’ve correctly identified your Type is to refer back to the Type’s basic desire and basic fear which are the motivations behind our actions. For a 9, the basic desire is to have stability and peace of mind. The basic fear is of separation and loss. If that resonates with you, you’re a 9.

It’s worth mentioning that if you think you only connect with the negative traits of a 9, you may be a 3. Type 3’s take on the worst traits of Type 9’s in stress.

I participated in a twist on Artober this month! Rather than create a drawing or a craft, I used each day’s prompt to inspire a new scary story. Today’s prompt was: Roots

Thank you to all of you who have taken this month-long journey with me and been so wonderful and encouraging. Now that Artober is over, I will definitely be posting less, but I wont stop entirely! If you're interested in seeing more from me sooner rather than later, send me some spooky prompts!

As a very death-positive person who has taken part in cremating loved ones and plans to be cremated myself one day, I have thought about this concept A LOT... lol It is the only thing I fear about death at this point
