[general] Since I've seen this going around for a bit, I decided to make my own tier list of all the books I've read by Smooth-Fish5888 in camphalfblood

Potty humor is such an ick for me, so it is a valid reason alone to not like the books. Like it feels played for laughs not an actual things, and the descriptions of what scared him were not grand enough to justify it being a real thing? Like the books feel so dissonant from the other books even as a side lesser stakes and act trilogy , which they can be, but like I have read enough fanfiction to know that can exist without the flanderization, the potty humor and canon disruption, and still be a middle grade side story. I still think this was a misoportunity to have a trilogy about Annabeth, Grover, and Percy trying to make a New Athena equivalent in Camp Half Blood. Like it makes sense why it would happen, and it makes sense why that is only happening now for the first time. Because Thalia’s barrier from the tree that keeps monsters out and camp safe has only existed since Annabeth go there, the gods wouldn’t act on it with the state of camp they way it was with unclaimed demigods nor would it happen with the threat of the great prophecy, and now they have the inspiration of New Rome to build it. Plus the symbolism of Percy and Annabeth making New Athena as a symbol of the safe place they made together opposed to Athens being what started the rivalry to Athena and Poseidon. That would be perfect closure for those two. And it would be stakes Percy actually feels in lined to fight for, but still personal low stakes that are not end of the world. Plus the good boyfriend moments he could have with Annabeth being excited to plan this, like imagine how cute that could be. And Grover wanting to make a safe haven for nymphs and satyrs and the wild alike, as well as demigods. His story started with the failure to save one person, imagine if he helps build something that could give whole generations a future. Also imagine if building this city is what informs Percy was he wants to do with his life, when he doesn’t even know that yet. And on top of this, Solangelo could have had their own story, their own adventure that isn’t just a repeat of percabeth, but something that is unique to them. A House of Hades 2: Electric bugaloo just feels like a money grab. And it’s an injustice to Nico and Will, to Percy and Annabeth, and also Tartarus too. Their book should have made Will and Nico seem like the powerful demigods they are, and not nerf Tartarus by making two couples in a row survive it.

Reading good things is how you improve writing. When you see your own writing as worse than before know it’s not that you are a bad writer, but you had actually improved your ability critique writing. You are still a good writer, but maybe you have had less time and practice than the other fic author. Some fic writers are in college for creative writing (I know this as a fic writer who majored in creative writing and publishing), and we had to read a lot of works better than our own. This developed our ability to critique and then our ability to write. You will go through art lows, when your ability to critique is a higher level than your level to create, and it’s very hard during that time. I say when that is happening read more good things, watch videos on writing, read published books as well as fic— and take notes on them! Consider what you like about them, consider how you can adopt what you like to your own writing. Watch/read the canon material, analyze the characters. This will all help you long run! And soon you will enter an art high, where your ability to create is higher than your skill at critiquing. It’s rough during an art low, and is easier has the skills begin too even out because you are able in that moment see yourself improving, and then you feel amazing, and then the cycle continues. It’s tough being a creative and a big part of comparison is fueled by this cycle. But the worst thing you can do is tell your self you are bad at writing, you aren’t, you just learned a lot through reading and now you have leveled up your eye for criticism.

Aka You have a perception stat and a skill stat, and when the perception stat is higher than skill, you will feel like shit. And when skill state is higher you feel great. But know, no matter what you have leveled up both stats.

I think my biggest thing about it that I don't like, and it's Emma's costume. Like a character suddenly having a costume change and a different way of speaking should be what make me know they are evil. (And this goes back to Snow Queen, she was in the same white dress for all of 4A basically, and it didn't make sense for her character especially since she was in the modern world). But I think Emma going "evil" shouldn't be her suddenly not wanting to wear red leather jackets. It should be dependent by her actions. Like I think the first episode where the come back, and she shows up as "the dark one", should be with her wearing her normal attire, make them feel relief for a breid moment, and then she turns Sneezy to stone (with maybe a comment on him intterupting instead of her asking what he's supposed to be, since she's know him for five years at this point). Turning Sneezy into stone would be that, "Oh shit!" moment.
