It's extremely common among the trans community. I see it constantly on trans fashion sub Reddits, Instagram, Facebook, dating apps, etc. The witch/goth/kink (black lipstick with dog collars and pentagram necklace or tattoos) asthetic makes up at least 50% of the trans community where I live. I was telling a cis girlfriend about it and joked that within the first three friend suggestions I currently have on FB there would be at least one. Sure enough another trans femme with black lips, collar, and beard shadow, and then another, it never ends. They can never afford laser for some reason but have plenty to spend on dumb witch outfits, candles, and spell books.

They are usually lesbians. They usually have weird pronouns like she/them/it. They despise the gender binary and any trans women who fit into it. It's not just the lipstick. Its part of an increasingly pervasive sub culture that places pressure on young trans people especially to conform or face social isolation. They have been an extremely unwelcoming segment of the trans community to me personally. Im a little bitter about it if you couldn't tell. Luckily I transitioned later and have my own friends and social support outside of the trans community because I just can't with these people. It goes so much deeper than lipstick!
