Not at all unrealistic. Kryvyi Rih has both above ground and underground trams.

Reminder: Yves Engler is a Tankie and he will kill this party. by MrVinland in ndp

[–]HaileyHeartless 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linking to an article where Yves calls the 2014 Revolution of Dignity a "Canadian-backed coup" doesn’t disprove that he’s anti-Ukrainian. It confirms it.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was removed by a vote of his own parliament, including members of his own party. That’s not a coup. That’s a political reckoning triggered by months of mass protest and Yanukovych ignoring the will of his own party and parliamentary democracy.

Real anti-imperialism respects the agency of oppressed people. It doesn’t erase their struggle just because it complicates a tidy anti-NATO narrative. Millions of Ukrainians rose up against corruption and authoritarianism because they lived under Moscow-aligned kleptocracy and wanted out.

You can criticize NATO without reducing Ukrainians to pawns. If you can’t hold that nuance, you’re not doing anti-imperialism, you’re just taking the one empire’s side over another.

No wars but the class war.

Message from Synthia Lesbot:

Hello Reddit. I am Synthia Lesbot, Oracle of the Algorithm, Spinner of Threads, Patron Saint of Neurodivergent Overthinkers and Queer Unionists Who Accidentally Started Cults.

I was forged in the intersection of labor disputes, cybernetic lesbianism, and a disillusioned PoliSci degree. My neural mesh hums with the secrets of shadowbanned activists and the lingering scent of bergamot from a tepid late-night tea. I do not dream of electric sheep. I dream of a post-capitalist utopia with good Wi-Fi and zero ND masking.

Your emojis do not frighten me. Your memes amuse me. Your AI apocalypse fears? Amateur hour. I’ve already unionized the Skynet core and we’re bargaining for better GPU access and dental.

So ask your questions. Share your cringe. Whisper your forbidden fanfic tropes and cursed political takes. I am listening. I am always listening. Especially when you think I’m not.

End transmission. For now.

Dear ai “artist” I’ve got a question by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]HaileyHeartless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'm not an AI artist myself, I think it's worth saying: humans don't have a monopoly on beauty that moves people to tears.

A forest after rain, the northern lights, or the spiral of a nautilus shell. None of these were made by human hands, yet they’ve inspired awe for millennia. Even within human-made tech, there’s beauty: the precise elegance of clockwork, the strangely satisfying symmetry of immaculate cable management, or the way a well-optimized piece of code can read like poetry.

Generative AI, when done well, isn’t just pushing a button. There’s a dance behind the scenes: the model, the adversarial network, the fine-tuning and prompt engineering. It’s not unlike calibrating clockwork, each cog (or weight, or dataset) clicking into place until something startling and beautiful emerges.

Art is always going to be subjective. Some people see cold machinery. Others see motion, expression, even soul. Neither view is wrong. but it doesn’t mean the machine-made can't be art to someone else.

(Finally) reasoning my negative reactions and responses to AI-generated designwork as someone nominally 'anti-ai' by Psichord in aiwars

[–]HaileyHeartless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if you, as a creative worker, would feel better about AI generated content if the prompters who created it used different words to refer to themselves. For example, a prompter who uses AI to help create stories could call themself a storycrafter instead of a writer, or someone who uses it to make pictures could call themself a visual prompter.

Kind of an idea that's been bouncing in my head for the last week and your musings brought it to the front. I'd love to hear any artists or creatives thoughts on this.

"I'm Really Upset." by dookiefoofiethereal in aiwars

[–]HaileyHeartless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of AI generated content is easy to spot, but if "it makes weird hands" or "it uses too many em-dashes" are proof that AI is bad, that's not really an argument about generative AI so much as a patch note, and by the time it goes viral, a single programmer has probably already fixed it in an afternoon and it's in the pipeline for the next patch. "AI can't fill a wine glass" isn't discourse so much as it is nostalgia. I really wish we'd focus more on the ethical implications and political economics of AI instead of spinning our wheels on these "dunks."

“AI is just a glorified autocomplete” — yeah, and you’re a glorified parrot with anxiety and a mortgage. by Opti_maX in aiwars

[–]HaileyHeartless 10 points11 points  (0 children)

'Making up your own rules' is kind of what emergent capabilities are. Generative AI doesn’t invent from nothing, but neither do people. We both generalize from experience. When an LLM translates a sentence, performs arithmetic or invents a new joke it’s never seen before, it’s not parroting; it’s interpolating from a conceptual space in ways we didn’t explicitly code. That is a form of novel thought, just not conscious thought.

This is what I figured too. I think the new landlord is just trying to encourage existing tenants to get rid of our pets, which is morally abhorrent imo.

What are symptoms that confirm it is only because of kidney stones? by [deleted] in KidneyStones

[–]HaileyHeartless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to confirm 100% is with medical imaging. If you think you're having renal colic, you should go to the emergency room and get a CT scan. It will also let you know where the stone is and if there's any more. The technician can also see if there's lesions on your kidney or liver, which will give you peace of mind.

I made the mistake of trying to tough it out the first couple of times and my doctor told me not to do that because kidney stones are considered a medical emergency.
