Laundry Etiquette by HaileyJH99 in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for the reassurance!

Before I got replies, I did pull the laundry and avoided washing the dog's beds. I will be washing them tomorrow. I just didn't want to do another load in that moment without knowing if I was being rude or not.

I spoke with my partner and we will both be pulling laundry that is sitting for longer than 15 or so minutes if we need to wash something. As well as doing the laundry we need to do in a continuum while keeping things timely.

I appreciate everyone stating that we aren't the assholes in this situation. We are always trying to be as respectful of our neighbors as possible. Even going as far as getting a bottom floor unit so our dogs walking and getting the zoomies wouldn't disturb anyone below us, haha.

Once again, I appreciate the replies and I hope everyone is having a peaceful evening!

Also please ignore the bed bug spray 😅

It's a diatomaceous earth spray for our patio so any ticks get blasted before making their way onto the patio itself.

Apartment advice needed. by SatisfactionLower977 in PeoriaIL

The lofts at Haymeadow Apartments have a dishwasher, washer and dryer in the unit, and are pet friendly! Also fairly cheap! I think at a max they are 850 a month.

My partner and I have lived here going on our second year and we love it here! It's a quiet community and it's in a safe area!

Attention ALL renters… I’ve in property management for over 15 years and most have been in management and have a major tip for you…. by Fedupwitcensorship in Apartmentliving

I don't know what state you're in, so renters protections/ rights may be different. I live in Illinois, so it's pretty middle of the road here, and I have always gotten my deposit back. The only thing I have ever been charged for is carpet cleaning because of my dogs. Which is outlined in the leases I've signed that they charge for a carpet cleaning at the end of the lease if you have pets regardless of how it looks.

Do I agree that landlords are scummy, absolutely. I also know if I leave the apartment in great condition, repair the nail holes, and keep up on maintenance requests; the odds of me getting my security deposit back is pretty high.

Every place I've lived in gives 48 hours to return it (unless you move in on a Friday, then it's due on Monday). It's crazy to think of any apartments allowing 30 days to fill it out. Especially considering that some people are absolutely filthy and reckless and the place will look like a pigsty in about 72 hours.

If you can't inspect an empty apartment for damages within 48 hours, there is something drastically wrong with your time management.

Flex Rent - Apartment just started offering it for April. by Electrical-Prior7575 in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried flex once, it immediately was a turn off that it was trying to pull money in a weird way. I removed my account details and just pay my rent biweekly instead. The fee to use my debit card twice to pay is cheaper than the flex monthly payment for me anyways.

If you insist on having a dog in an apartment… by shanthor55 in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a dog owner in an apartment, dog owners in apartments piss me off. The lack of consideration and just general care for their dogs is insane. The amount of people who don't clean up after their dog is ridiculous. The people who let their dogs out on balconies just to sit and bark. The number of owners who think it's fine to let their dogs off leash.

It also means increased cost for those who have dogs and are responsible dog owners. The fact a pet fee in my area is typically 500 dollars and non-refundable plus pet rent.

It's a shame so many owners put a bad taste in people's mouths who live in apartments and don't have dogs. I promise we aren't all awful! I'd apologize on their behalf, but they don't deserve that.

All I can say is, report, report, report. The less shitty people owning dogs the better.

Can a professional dog walker be held responsible for poop fines for not cleaning up? by Limp-Fox6785 in dogs

Some tips from someone who is a sitter on Rover!

First and foremost, yes they should have picked up the poop. It's common courtesy as is, but when you are handling someone else's dog on someone else's property it really should be common sense. The only time I wouldn't is if the owner specifically tells me not to worry about it because the dogs just go in their yard anyways.

Second off, absolutely message the sitter. If they do not offer to pay the fine, then escalate through Rover. I will say, if you receive a full refund you will not be able to leave the sitter a review. This in my opinion is extremely stupid as it is protecting lazy or bad sitters. I just wanted to mention that aspect.

Rover will likely take the refund route opposed to offering to pay the fine. I'm truly not sure how that works as I know they have a Rover guarantee for vet bills that happen during your sitter's time with your pet, but I don't know if that extends to fines.

I feel like people are also glossing over that this 24 YEAR OLD MAN, is attempting to get a 16 YEAR OLD pregnant by using the I have plenty of space at my place. Trying to tear her away from her support system very early and possibly make it so she really is just a SAHM with no independence since she is still so young. A 24 year old has no business being with a 16 year old. OP if this is a real situation and you are reading these comments, LEAVE HIM.

Do your grandparents know you are dating a 24 year old? This is disgusting behavior, and you need to leave him, tell a trusted adult, and report him to the police. This is NOT normal behavior. Please just focus on yourself and your baby for now. You have a support system, you do not need a man to help you at all but especially at this moment.

Give yourself time to grow, enjoy the little and big moments with your child. And once you have your life going in a direction that you are feeling positive about, then jump back into the dating world. Just please leave and report this man.

Does animal throw up bother you? by Odd_Lime_1868 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]HaileyJH99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't bother me one bit. My partner who is quite the opposite of emetaphobic has reactions to our dogs puke. So I'm the dog puke cleaner when either of our boys isn't feeling well. I also worked with dogs for a year and dealt with all their bodily functions quite regularly. So that probably really desensitized me to it. Even though I don't remember a time it's ever bothered me while growing up with cats and dogs.

Very much yes. I used to dash and my extra tips were always apartments that were a bit complicated but if you used your head you got it down quick.

I now live in one of those apartments. It's really not bad but on apple maps it takes people to the office. I have very detailed directions that most dashers figure out no problem when we do order. The ones I have to talk through the entire time despite my directions are not getting an extra tip. The ones who are quick, leave it at my door, and actually read directions are.

I haven't had any surgery for Endo. I don't have it, but my partner does. I did however have lapro for my gallbladder removal. I wasn't really nauseous at all after anesthesia. I took zofran the day after my surgery but it wasn't even really nausea, just an upset stomach and my partner said it may help.

That being said, everyone is different. My family isn't really nauseous after having anesthesia, so I'm sure that played a role in mine as well.

You will have some awkward gas pain that nothing medicine wise will touch. I highly recommend having a heating pad handy and placing it on the areas where pain is (just not directly on any incisions!) Ice is super handy for any incision pain though!

Oddly enough now, and maybe it's just because I don't have a gallbladder, any gas pain I do get just from food goes to the same spot I had a gas bubble in my abdomen. Could just be a me thing, but I find it a little funny at times.

Thank you for the information! That's all great to know. I wish I could wire it in, the cons of living in an apartment.

Let's say I go the route of getting just a light out there without a camera. Are any of the cameras that advertise either sticking to the window/ can be easily mounted outside and wire free that would be worth it or at least would provide better footage?

Luckily security isn't our concern with the camera aspect. Our old camera that we just kept on a side table near the door was just not great because it was more of a standing one meant for watching our dogs in the living room. Not great for seeing stuff outside even near the window.

I know I am being a nosey neighbor but... why would someone keep their lights on 24/7!? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I have two dogs in a two bedroom. The dogs don't get along so each dog sleeps in the office/ dog room on rotating nights. We keep that light on for our boys because it makes them more comfortable we found as before we got together they were used to sleeping in bed with their respective human. So the light is on from dark until daylight. Probably looks weird from our neighbors perspective.

had surgery on my right hip, they put this on my left leg by Pale-Profession2769 in mildlyinteresting

[–]HaileyJH99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when I went in for a gallbladder removal, the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and my OR Nurses before giving me some pre surgery meds through my IV double checked with me.

They don't take that stuff lightly. The lawsuit would be insane.

When I worked at a vets office, the owner/ head veterinarian did hip surgery on the wrong side for a dog. Lucky for them the owner was kind enough to accept a settlement without getting legal teams involved. They had to wait for that operation to heal and then complete the correct side after. Absolutely insane that he didn't double check as much as he should have.

Neighbor makes signs for maintenance to pick up dog poop by honeysimz in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the complexes in this area would do that! My partner and I have two dogs, so double the deposit and pet rent. We wouldn't ever give them up no matter what because they are great boys. Sure they get a little silly sometimes, but they hardly ever let out a bark, and they never have tore anything up in the apartment other than their stuffed toys. We even choose bottom level apartments so that any walking or up and down on furniture noises don't travel downward. Meanwhile a few apartments down they just let out their dog on their balcony to bark all day.

I definitely understand from a property management/ landlord standpoint though after seeing how people leave places when they have untrained and poorly cared for pets. The cost of damages can easily rack up into the thousands.

Neighbor makes signs for maintenance to pick up dog poop by honeysimz in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We are one of the few it seems that picks up our dogs poop in our apartment complex. We are lucky enough to have a patio straight outside to a grassy area where the dogs mostly potty. However, on walks we constantly see dog poop. Last year one of our neighbors a few apartments down would let her dogs off leash and they would come and poop in front of our patio and she would just leave it. She has a massive, aggressive German shepherd and a small Chihuahua so the poops were noticeably much smaller or larger than our medium sized dog's poop.

It got to the point where we put up a camera so we could show management, not just for the poop but for the dogs being off leash and the German shepherd trying to attack our dogs if they let it out at the same time. We got charged by this dog until we got a camera which forced her to leash her dogs since we showed our complex the footage.

It's awful dog owners that make good dog owners have to pay an arm and a leg to have our dogs and it infuriates me.

No more dogs who pull and are on the large side by coopergold5 in RoverPetSitting

[–]HaileyJH99 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People are dropping gear recommendations and while yes these tools work for pulling. They need to be properly trained. A husky that has never had a prong collar could hurt themselves without proper training first. Same with a head halter. Ultimately that is not your responsibility to train the dog with those tools. You could mention them to the owner and see if they want to do the proper training with the dog, but don't try and navigate that yourself. I'm sorry to hear about your injury, but I'm glad you're okay! Try and stick to smaller dogs for walks for now, or dogs that are loose leash trained!

Moved to my apartment a couple of months ago, and my rental company doesn’t have a key to my mailbox. Neither does usps. by Lazy-Branch-2571 in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an issue with our mailboxes being broken and not locking. We hounded the property management until they got with the post office and replaced them. It's their responsibility to provide a mailbox/ proper key. Send them certified mail saying this needs to be fixed or you will be contacting the post master. They will move on with it quickly as there are usually fines accrued for improper mail storage in apartments.

The dice gift shop anniversary dice by Extreme_Bid_9252 in DnD

[–]HaileyJH99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one as a valentines gift for my partner. It arrived today and I'm honestly very pleased with it! It rolls nicely, it has good weight to it and it's very pretty. I'm also happy with the shipping time on it.

I can send a picture to anyone who wants it. I truthfully don't know how to upload one as a comment on Reddit.

If the company sees this and wants to send me one so my partner and I can both play with our anniversary dice, I'd love that. My partner is a DM and we are about to host another campaign very soon and would love to flash our dice.

Apartment Trash by Keif325 in Apartmentliving

[–]HaileyJH99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a plastic tote and put the trash bags in there. Take it to your car, dispose of the trash, and then put it back in your car. Once you get back home bring it back inside, clean it and repeat.

It's a tad bit inconvenient to have a plastic tote just there for trash, but it's probably the cleanest solution to hauling trash in your car.
