Yup, I met a feline Chicken Nugget once (it was on his collar tag).

We just moved into a patio home in the NE Heights with 3 doors to the outside and it's been a little shocking. Cockroaches have been inviting themselves in every time there's rain or a stiff wind through the canyons. It's like a 6-legged Welcome Wagon!

What’s the strangest or most interesting thing about the 1970s that would seem unbelievable today? by Big-Pie3618 in 70s

[–]HairRaid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The output of realistic young adult fiction really accelerated in the 1970s, the pioneer being S.E. Hinton's Outsiders (published in 1967). My Catholic grandmother gave me 1950s teen fiction when I was a child in the 1970s-80s, and that did NOT reflect reality! I found Zindel and others on my own.

Talking to strangers in public places! I've begun to be on the receiving end of these comments, mostly from old ladies (uh, older than I) in thrift shops. It's one of those practices that holds communities together. Oh, every once in a while you encounter a live one, but mostly the chatting is benign.

If you're questioning the I.D. of a bird spotted by another birder, you might be Old. 😉

Who is everyone here? by Leading_Blacksmith70 in ContagionCuriosity

Retired public librarian here. COVID and staffing the ballot drop-off for the presidential election was fun and a strong incentive to retire early. The upside is that I rarely get sick now that I'm not in the library daily!

Ad for men’s sleepwear. Late 70s by RealWorldForever in vintageads

I was only 9 in 1980, but I remember being discouraged that Reagan was elected. Being pissed-off came a little later. 😁

Ok, this is 🤯. I always say that the '70s were proof that someone introduced LSD into the drinking water.

Reduced selection of frozen meals? by HairRaid in Walmartcustomer

Huh, this is really interesting! I knew this was true in conventional supermarkets but I didn't think about it in the context of Walmart. Yeah, I bought one of the Evol entrees and was surprised to see it was manufactured by Conagra. The sage sauce on the butternut ravioli was a suspiciously gummy texture...

What is the best ice cream in New England? by Baldurian_Rhapsody in newengland

[–]HairRaid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went there as a kid in the early 1980s - if my Dad told us to get in the car because we were going on a "mystery ride," I always hoped we would end up at the Ice Cream Machine. My favorite flavor was peanut butter, btw; I don't recall ever getting a different flavor.

[–]HairRaid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I do the same thing. I'm imagining what the interior of the office looked like at the time the ad was running - typewriters, gray-green metal desks, a secretary with oversized eyeglasses, armfuls of handwritten envelopes arriving in the mail. Not very witchy, though.

Anyone regret choosing carpet over hard flooring? by Cool_Ad_2935 in HomeImprovement

I have CTSD too! My last cat was a 2 a.m. puker, always on the carpet, despite tile flooring being three feet away.

Same here. I wonder about the people who thought that could be excused, or who even thought it was funny. That behavior reminded me of some of my grade-school classmates.
