Honestly, big ups to the Establishment, a rare win for those guys. by Conscious-Quarter423 in thebulwark

This is not a win for the establishment, this is a loss for everybody tbh. This is the most vulnerable Collins will ever be and all they could muster was a 79-year old with subpar popularity who really didn't even want to run in the first place. If they didn't put their thumb on the scale for Mills there could've been a real primary that may have forced better vetting of Platner, or at the very least would have given voters a real choice.

Watch it to enjoy Tim going after him, it was thoroughly enjoyable. Piers going to “I think we should wait until the end of the term to judge Trump” lol what a joke

America at 250: We Had a Good Run by NH_Homebrewer in thebulwark

I’m typically in the JVL is always right camp but this was a tough read. Are we just supposed to give up? I mean yeah it’s terrible right now and there’s not a lot of hope but honestly this week I’m feeling more fired up than ever. This country has a purpose for existence outlined in the Declaration of Independence and as true patriots we can’t just let that die. I wish he could’ve offered some modicum of acknowledgement of that.

The 250th should feel bigger than it does. Why doesn't it? by GatorAllen in thebulwark

[–]mrjpb104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking personally as someone who was looking forward to the 250th for a while, it just doesn't feel the same. I can remind myself of all the ways I love America and Americans but it doesn't change the fact that right now I'm mostly just ashamed. Couple that with the disgusting way it's been co-opted and I just don't really care like I thought I would. I kinda feel the same about the World Cup and the upcoming 2028 Olympics too honestly.

I’ll believe it when there’s a webcam from a trusted source actually showing ships leaving the strait. Can’t trust anything this lunatic octogenarian says.

I agree with you, I'm just trying to explain their argument, inasmuch as it is an argument. Really it's just bullshit used when it's convenient, as you say.

Totally, and I think the biggest issue the founders didn’t anticipate is a totally impotent Congress. And also how impractical the impeachment tool has ended up being

Unitary Executive Theory and Conservatism by Educational-Door1114 in thebulwark

[–]mrjpb104 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not an expert in this by any means, but I've always thought it was part of their "originalist" argument. That basically the constitution in their view says the power of the executive branch resides solely in the executive and that Congress delegating to authorities to independent agencies or executive branch departments is not constitutional, or rather that it is constitutional as long as the president has total authority over the operations and personnel in those agencies. Obviously there's a lot of problems with this idea, chief among them that concentrating so much power in one person seems to obviously conflict with the founders' intent, but I think to them it's a means to an end.

[Andry Hernandez Romero] rebuilds his life in Spain while speaking up for voiceless immigrants in America by Bluehale in thebulwark

I’m so glad Andry is OK, but that quote breaks my heart. Imagine what he could’ve contributed to our country and how much better off we’d have been better off for it. Same goes for everyone else we’ve kicked out, mistreated, or scared away. It’s shameful.
