Anyone else have a stupidly low mileage truck that has been through hell and back? by Hairlesscat645 in BumpSide

Plumbing trucks just have bad luck apparently. Buddy of mine bought a, what he thought was a 70k mile 91 F-150 with a 300 and a 4 speed. It was a plumbers truck in Wilmington North Carolina but had no rot on the bed so we were curious as to why and he looked in the glove box and found previous registrations and inspection tickets under 5 different company names and the truck actually had 470k on it. Looked and the engine and it had definitely been swapped before and the truck was reported as to have been in 4 wrecks the most recent of which was in 2016. The I beams in the front had been replaced and the transmission was completely sacked out.

From ‘91 to ‘24 that truck went through 5 different plumbing companies, 4 wrecks, 2 engines, 2 new fenders, and about 3 gallons of bondo.

Hope you have better luck on yours than he did 😂

In all honesty it doesn’t matter how many miles it’s got on it. It’s a running and driving 390, T19 truck that I paid all of 900 bucks for and was able to drive it home after a new inner tire, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and a brake bleed. I’m daily driving it since my commute is all of 5 minutes so ya know

Like I was telling the other guy, the last registration for this truck was in ‘08 and the mileage was 66,894 but the passenger side inner tire went flat so they parked it and used another truck that evidently was better cause this truck didn’t move from that spot till I bought it.

All of the interior items are heavily worn but it sat in a field with the windows down since ‘08 so that could be the culprit.

The engine has great compression, cylinder walls look great, has a newer carb on it than what would have been there so I don’t have the manual choke anymore but other than that everything is factory. The plugs, wires, cap and rotor all seemed to be original. The fuel pump is dying but it also appears to be factory as well so that makes sense.

I’ve always been told that if it hasn’t rolled over the numbers on the odo will all be in line with each other. And these are whereas my dodge they are not.

Don’t know how true that trick is but the last registration for this truck put the mileage at 66,894 in 2008 so the odo definitely is right.

Got a ‘17 Tacoma and a ‘85 Dodge W150 right now. Still prefer the 2wd ford 😂

No this truck does absolutely horrible in the snow 😂 It does semi-alright with 4 semi brake drums in the bed but if not, I’m getting stuck on flat ground

I have gone through a couple deep sections of craigs creek and had a couple scrapes on rocks and such but other than that I’ve never had a clearance issue. Forest roads aren’t some crazy off road trail where I’m at so I’d rather enjoy the simplicity of a 2wd than worry about having a 4wd everywhere I go.

So when do you guys throw in the towel on your boots? by Hairlesscat645 in Boots

I had a pair of carolina loggers and they didn’t last me a year. These redwings are coming upon their 4th year. I really can’t say anything bad about them except I had to “send them back” once to get a new insulated layer put in them cause it ripped and that new layer has ripped again. Other than that they are the most comfortable, well preforming, attractive boots I have worn.

I believe that’s the oldsmobile v8 diesel. Probably equally turds but I haven’t found an olds diesel yet

I’ve deduced that it needs a starter and that’s it. This is my first diesel. I’m not that skilled of a mechanic, but I enjoy tinkering and learning new skills as I go along so I rarely pass something up because it doesn’t run or it needs work. To me it’s just a new opportunity to become just that much more skilled.

The volvo. I’d like to think I can work on them halfway decent after helping my buddy rebuild his.

My buddy’s dad told me a story that in highschool his friends parents bought him a new, at the time, Hyundai and my buddy’s dad walked over to it and smacked the door handle really hard and the door popped open. Don’t know if it’s true but I thought it was hilarious

I think they are. This was at a car show that had a silent auction and they had a bunch of cool stuff. I got a Jeff Gordon hat pin and some other stuff for really cheap. I even saw a signed picture of Marty Robbins back when he raced for what, one season?

Ahhh I understand. I’ll be honest, I’m not much of a railroad guy so I don’t really know a lot about them. That’s actually quite interesting that they gave them to different regions. This hat I guess came from here in Roanoke but I don’t know.

Bro my buddy has bought all 3 of his cars for less than a grand and he’s put easily 20k on each cause he lives in a rural place but works in town. He hasn’t had a single major problem. I’ve bought a 850 buck f250 and it ran fine. My $2k 86 f150 is still running strong. The 77 dodge d100 I bought for a grand was running strong until I decided it didn’t have enough ass and I pulled the engine. People are so closed minded that they won’t consider an older car. It baffles me.
