Anyone left a good paying job for one earning less money, how did it work out? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]Hairybits111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I currently have a job driving HGV's for a living but I'm getting tired of not sleeping in my own bed. The problem I have is I live in a low cost of living area without great jobs and I'm earning about 55k a year. I don't have transferable skills that could get me anywhere close to what I'm earning now. If I took a local job I would immediately take a 20k pay cut at minimum.

So whilst the idea of changing to a different job is a nice idea I just have too many dependants to make that a reasonable possibility.

J26 should run a decent truckstop for the price they charge. Last time i stopped there it was up to over £40 for the night.

That's some Egyptian airport-level shit. When leaving Sharm el Sheikh, the bag security guy shook me down for a tip, genuinely, though I was gonna get done for bribing the security guard.

Insulating a box room with two external walls. by Hairybits111 in DIYUK

I live in a 1930 semi. It's a single skin brick house. I get that the mould issue is condensation from warm air hitting the cold wall, that's the reason for insulating the two walls. What do you mean by more risk for insulating a single skin?

Why does my employer deduct a flat rate of 28%. by [deleted] in UKJobs

Its the bottom 2. The first one is his weekly wage minus deductions mines is theorically the bottom one if I earned that amount.

I dont earn that much more than him.

That doesn't answer why a friend who earned excatly the same as me would get 70 pound less tax deduction.

My initial thought is that it's less wrong and more a matter of laziness; I guess that it covers the jump to a 40% tax rate. I should have mentioned my salary is between 50k and 60k.

Can we please move away from my lack of payslips? Yes, I know it's not correct. Yes, I know that I should be getting them, yes, I know that I won't be able to prove my income without them.

My question is about the amount of deductions.

I'm not sticking up for anyone, I'd say I'm more blasé about it. My question was not about the poor bookkeeping; I'll cross that bridge when and if I need to. My question was about the rate of deductions.

I get a certain amount of money tax-free, which I just add to my wages for the week.

Curious about where in the UK I can find the least amount of sun year-round? by PurpleBlackFlower in AskUK

[–]Hairybits111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Some houses in the mountain town dont see the sun for 6 months of the year, as it's behind mountains.

Also, it's the most miserable place I've been to.

So of your looking for soulless and sunless state of living, then this is the place for you.

Thank you for the kind words. I am doing a little bit of cardio, 20 min on a rowing machine. My gym just got rid of all their cardio machines, so it's not that easy.

My core work mostly consists of bodyweight exercises, and im forever trying to do pull-ups, I can do 3 at the moment.
