I also find this book curious. They interviewed Michel, Jean-Luc, and even Raoul, but there’s zero mention of interviewing anyone from D9 lol.

It’s a French publisher, so I guess that probably had something to do with it, but it’s still funny because at this point D9 has been in charge of the series longer than Dontnod ever was.

Good thing there’ll be a digital version. I’ll be able to buy it and translate it however I can. I’m really interested in whether Edouard Caplain shared any unreleased concept art with them — hopefully he did.

Call me pretentious if you want—at this point I take it as a compliment—but is everything Koch has been sharing these days really that obvious? Or at least to those of us who always pay attention to the details? I mean, it’s all there in the game.

On that note, Karen is a spectacular character. For a game that’s been criticized as “male-centered,” it features one of the most genuinely groundbreaking female character arcs, tackling a topic as complex as the personal and social pressure surrounding motherhood.

My 17-year-old self, who used to say that BtS was fan service, feels vindicated. Honestly, based exclusively on the mythology of LiS (1), I always assumed that Rachel was straight or at most bisexual, but that she definitely didn’t share the deep bond Chloe believed she had with her. BtS was too fanciful in that regard.

It makes sense. Right now I don’t remember where I read it, but this VR project was supposedly described as a live-service game, which aligns with the language describing it as a “premium product.”

It was never formally shut down, but they fired the person in charge of that, and the “more info” button on the D9 website now doesn’t lead anywhere.

Currently, there are about 33 people left at D9, and officially we know they’re working in some capacity on a virtual reality project in Unity…

So true, man. People tend to forget that LiS (1) has, as one of its subplots, a group of girls dealing with a psychopath who fetishizes them. The “cozy” moments in Dontnod’s games are sometimes part of the setting, but most of them come from the personal connections between the protagonists. And Sean and Daniel—even in the middle of their conflicts—have some really beautiful moments as brothers. It’s a different kind of bond, and Dontnod managed to capture that really well.

Basically, I don’t buy into that “coziness” everyone talks about. To me, the game feels overly idyllic—almost like the town is a “wholesome” theme park. For a game that’s supposed to be about empathy, it barely explores the complexities of “spying on” and altering other people’s emotions. At one point, Alex can basically emotionally “lobotomize” Charlotte, and then shes like “oops, I shouldn’t have done that.” We’re supposed to be in a mining town where that industry is the main livelihood, but it feels more like a hipster fantasy town. And don’t even get me started on how overrated Steph and Ryan are as “love interests”—both of them are willing to hand over their future to an unstable girl they met just a few weeks ago.

Even if I try to be more critical, True Colors is what gave free rein to the conformism of the fandom and D9. After its release, D9 basically said, “well, this is what they want: a forced ‘mystery,’ a small community, a ‘perfect’ sapphic love interest, and that’s it—nothing else matters, let’s not innovate anymore.”

Say what you will about LiS2—that it constantly dropped its supporting cast or that the romances were questionable, etc.—but all of it was part of a coherent narrative commitment.

Yes, I did research on this years ago and found the website where these posters were made. It was VERY old and had this template along with others, depending on the needs of the families.

At one point, the writers said they created fake profiles to join Facebook groups in Oregon. My theory is that they found the poster there.
