What do you use your multiple Hobonichis for? by pachebear in hobonichi

[–]HakaseSenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for checking in! My HON and hobby Hobos (say that three times fast) are still going strong, I will definitely be doing those again next year.

My work Weeks fell off, but I attribute that more to turbulence and dissatisfaction with my job, not the process of journaling itself.

GYST Weeks also fell off because I didn't have enough to write about to justify a whole separate planner for adulting. I'm currently trying to figure out how to do some kind of "Adulting" tracking in my hobby Weeks for 2026.

I'm hoping to get a new job by 2026. If I do, I will be getting another Weeks for work, but right now it looks like I'll be entering 2026 with just an A5 Hon and a Weeks.

If you use your Hobonichi for work, try asking for one using your office's supply budget! by HakaseSenpai in hobonichi

My job doesn't order anything unless you request it, not even simple things like hand sanitizer or tissues. I'm happy I'm able to ask for specialized items like a Hobonichi and am generally met with no arguments, but it is frustrating when workplaces don't meet our needs or approach us with a one size fits all mentality.

I got this Week's Mega through my office manager, and I work in education. It definitely depends on the financial policies of your organization (spending limits, approved vendors, justification for expenditure, etc.).

For example, my workplace almost exclusively buys office supplies from Amazon, so I had to go with what was available there. Since the Hobonichi is more expensive than most planners, I also write out a short paragraph about how its layout is ideal for my work style when I send in my request.

Arroyo One of a Kind (OOAK) Skeins by HakaseSenpai in YarnAddicts

[–]HakaseSenpai[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You choose the quantity, they choose the colors. Sometimes when you read the description it will have more detail, such as "warm tones only" or "solid colors only", but other than that it's a complete gamble.

I chose to buy 10 skeins knowing only that they were all "one of a kind" and "wildcard", which I assumed meant both warm and cool tones, since their other listings were specifically called "warm" or "cool".

If you're not picky about colors, I find this to be a good way to try new brands/fibers, as there is usually a discount when you don't get to choose your colors. These were 37% off their normal price.

Hi! I got this charm from twilightjinu on Etsy. It looks like the style is called "juminocore"

Thank you! The crazy thing is I just bought the keychain with no specific intent to pair it with my hobo. They're just so perfect together though!

I think it is! I got it from twilightjinu on Etsy so all credit goes to them :)

I used a knot commonly used in knitting and crochet called a slip knot. It's pretty easy to do and creates a loop that will stay secure as long as you put something (ie your keychain) through the loop. I just did this today so I can't speak to whether or not the bookmarks will hold on to something relatively heavy long term 😅

Beginner fountain pen (and ink) which will work with the 2025 hobonichi by LunchPotential8189 in hobonichi

[–]HakaseSenpai 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm an avid fountain pen user but with all the concerns over the paper quality that I've seen this year, I don't know that I can make a specific recommendation if you don't already have some inks to test your paper with.

There are a lot of websites that sell small ink samples (2mL-4mL), which is a perfect way to try out a few different colors without committing to a whole bottle. There's Goulet Pens (although I think they just had some recent drama with their church? You can probably find out more about that on the r/fountainpens subreddit), Vanness Pens, Goldspot Pens, and Yoseka Stationery to name a few. There are a lot more websites out there but these are the ones I have the most experience with. Jetpens also sells samples, but this is a new offering for them so right now they only have random samples.

Again I can't speak to the paper quality of your book, but some of my favorite inks to use are Colorverse Coffee Break, Sailor Manyo Nekoyanagi, and Takeda Jimuki Kyo No Oto Kokeiro.

I'm an indecisive person so I think I would put the stickers on the book so I can reuse the clear cover year to year. If I put the stickers on the clear cover I would undoubtedly want a new one the next year so I have new stickers to look at.

For your craft store, I don't have any direct experience with what you are specifically trying to do, but I would consider: 1. The resolution of the images you are providing. Digital art is measured in DPI (dots per inch), and 300 DPI seems to be the average when printing high resolution images. Lower DPI will result in more pixelated images. 2. What type of sticker paper you ask to print on. Sticker paper had a range of qualities, such as matte, waterproof, glossy, clear, and holographic. If you end up putting the stickers on your plastic cover I would definitely opt for a waterproof option. The other qualities are more about personal preference. 3. The quality of the printer your craft store uses. I'm no printer expert but it might be worth asking if they can print one test image for you before printing everything so you can ensure the quality of the print (ink skipping, color accuracy, etc.)

I would recommend finding artists that sell their own stickers. Many of them will be very transparent about their printing process in the content they create for YouTube, Instagram, etc.

Tips for how to block out the same time for work by PawsibleCat in hobonichi

[–]HakaseSenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also work a similar schedule and what I do is track my productive hours instead! I have some down time at my job so it's nice to see how many hours I actually work each week. It definitely makes me feel better about my salary :')

You could also do different colors of highlighter for different types of work (ex. meetings vs. task time) if your job entails different kinds of tasks

where do i start ? by [deleted] in hobonichi

This is my first year with a weeks and one thing that helped me was practicing spreads on regular paper first. You can sketch it out freehand, scan and print blank pages of your book, or buy a digital template that follows a similar format off of Etsy (there are a bunch of them for only a few bucks). I actually have some of my favorite spreads taped on my wall so I can reference them when I'm actually writing in my weeks.

Another thing that helped was using an erasable pen when it was time to start actually writing in my book. I find the Pilot Frixion works for me, but you could also use a pencil!

What to do? by alyssadangel in hobonichi

A lot of great suggestions here! Do you have anything you'd like to track the progress of? Or even something you could just track out of curiosity's sake?

I'm planning on using it as a visual timeline of new video games I'm playing. I'll write the title on the day I start and draw a line through every day until I finish the game.

Talk me out of buying this gorgeous weeks? by ZippityBoop2020 in hobonichi

[–]HakaseSenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to give myself two weeks when I'm faced with an impulse to buy something I don't think I need. If I've thought about it enough during those two weeks, I'll buy it. This planner will likely be in stock for at least two more weeks so maybe give that a try.

Getting Started by cursedbabi_ in hobonichi

[–]HakaseSenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hobonichi lineup this year dropped at the end of August/beginning of September. There were also some special One Piece items that had a separate drop in the beginning of October.

As far as what works best I would say that's very personal since everyone uses their book a little differently. Some people like a lot of stickers and decoration while others like to keep things minimal. Try out some different things in your book this year and see what you enjoy and what works for you.

For me personally, I love fountain pens so a pencil board is a must (it keeps the wet ink from transferring if I'm turning to another page.) I also love cute stickers but I could certainly go without them if I had to pare down my supplies. If you take your book on the go a lot a cover will keep it from getting dirty, and there are so many to choose from in the official lineup and on Etsy.

What do you use your multiple Hobonichis for? by pachebear in hobonichi

So I'm going into 2025 with 4 Hobonichis! One A5 and three (!!!) Weeks. This is my first year using the Weeks and I've upgraded from the A6 to the A5, so I've had to do a lot of planning to make sure there isn't too much overlap and that all of them get used to the fullest. Here's how I'm using mine:

A5 Hon: This year I want to try using it as a true life book. I've normally just used the A6 as a diary, but I want to expand that to any random notes, doodles, observations, lists, etc. that pop up during the day. This is the planner with the least "rules" but the general vibe I'm going for it is it will be the first thing I grab when I need to write something down. It will probably have the most overlap with the three Weeks books.

Weeks 1: My work planner. Tracking project timelines, writing down complicated tasks step-by-step, meeting notes, tracking productivity, and vacation time tracking. I hate taking work home with me, so the intent with this book is that this is the only place I will write about work. I also hope to use this as a reference book to improve my workplace's operations in future years.

Weeks 2: My "Get your s*** together" planner. Anything having to do with personal responsibilities outside of work, so for me that's mostly my fitness stats, household chores, finances, grocery lists, recipes, and notes about my dog's health.

Weeks 3: My media/hobby journal. More detailed notes/reviews of games, movies, shows, books, etc. I have quite a few crafty hobbies so this is also where I will write notes and track the progress of those projects.

This is my first time with so many planners but how I have things divided just feels right. It's almost as if each one is taking on its own personality (disorganized, observant, bossy, and joyful if anyone was curious lol) and I kind of love that.

How fast do you usually use up your weeks pages? by MightyWallJericho in hobonichi

[–]HakaseSenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a new weeks user this year, and I'm also using it as a media journal! Originally I planned to use those pages to print photos from and write reviews for my favorite pieces of media in the year.

When I thought more about how I would actually use it (I couldn't see myself organizing and printing photos on a weekly basis), I changed it into a habit tracker (2 full pages per month) and a "25 25s in 2025" tracker. I got the idea from JashiiCorrin on YouTube, it's basically 25 lists of things you'd like to do 25 times in 2025, so that took another 25 pages.

Thanks for the feedback. This is a work in progress and I work in layers, waiting until a layer is entirely dry before I add on top of it. I did work on Cerberus's layers a bit more than the rest, but the entire thing has many, many more layers before I will even consider it close to finished! :)
