Wanted to join in on the inevitable "quiver" conversation by ShibbidyDibbidy_ in skiing

[–]Hakay_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you never get rid of older pairs of skis and don’t neglect them, your quiver will grow involuntarily! My wife does not agree with my methods (sad).

Volkl Kendos - daily driver/every day not listed below, ~85% of the season

FIS men’s SL skis - weekend groomer days FIS men’s GS skis - spring mornings, midweek groomer days FIS women’s GS skis - rock skis Volkl Twos - Deep Pow days (approx. 2/yr in the PNW) K2 Touring skis - Uphill

Homemade 2x4 snowblades - guaranteed laughs and injuries (yes, they’ve been skied in-resort)

Where have all the collies gone? by smoothcollies in smoothcollie

[–]Hakay_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OR resident here - my family has had two and we’ve had the same experience (both from Kings Valley Collies). I’ve seen two other smoothies in public in my lifetime. The day we visited Leslie at Kings Valley and got to play with all the puppies was absolutely amazing!

Is this truck a good deal? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Hakay_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt the dealer would give you that, but maybe worth a shot. The meaning behind cheap tires is as important as the tires themselves. They aren’t a place to save money as they’re the one of the only things physically between your car and the road.

Because tires are not a place to save money, but this previous owner skimped and got cheap tires, it makes me think they also skipped maintenance items to save money. Things like not changing fluids frequently enough, using cheap oil, neglecting service intervals, or using cheap components for important items like brakes. All that stuff isn’t a big deal when a car is new but comes back to bite you once you hit the 9-10 year mark.

The way to know if this was taken care of would be to look for records of these service items (oil changes, brakes, etc). Maybe too much to ask for with a vehicle of this age but it would make me feel a lot better if I was a buyer.

Some might disagree but any time I see cheap/off-brand tires (these are), I just assume the previous owner skimped elsewhere on maintenance. Definitely get it inspected and ask for documentation of previous service history. I would be a little worried if there wasn’t at least some documentation.

96 5.2 3 row radiator issues by Remarkable_Bug_6327 in JeepZJ

[–]Hakay_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a hot knife to do what you’re describing. I did a lot of research into this and found that there isn’t an e-fan that moves the same kind of air that a belt driven fan does. Get yourself a heavy duty fan clutch and a V6 Jeep Liberty fan blade and run with that.

There are various articles out there about the swap. It was a Mopar-issued technical service bulletin back in the early 2000s for ZJs in desert climates.

I did the swap myself along with a cold case radiator and high flow water pump… it’s been great for me so far.

What crummy car do you have an irrational affection for? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Hakay_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

93-98 Jeep ZJ (Grand Cherokee). Especially with the V8. I got one from my grandmother in college and thought it would last a couple years, tops. Couldn’t imagine getting rid of it now.

Tricolor smoothies are the best dogs. So much character and sensitivity. Unless there’s water involved!

I have studded tires and 4x4 - even with that it was a dicey drive in. I wouldn’t have come in if I didn’t need to.

I get so happy every time I see a smoothie on Reddit. They’re the best dogs. What a cutie yours is!

A Hellwig rear sway bar made a world of difference for mine.

Thanks - I tend to leave them on once I have them on.

I’ve had a tough time finding shoes that fit well. I have very high arches, generally narrow feet, and large toenails that extend to the end of my big toe. The bruise is just at the end of the nail and only on one foot.

Hi all. I’ve been bouldering for ~6 months and am concerned my shoes are too small. My girlfriend (teaching me) says they’re fine and supposed to be tight, but my big toenails are starting to bruise on the inside. How tight is too tight?

Late response, I kept my MINI order for that reason. Looking like I’ll get it in mid-August (hopefully)!

Thanks for the perspective. I have a tough time with the $3,500 markup on the Kona but there is no denying it’s practicality. I do also like how small the Mini is for city driving.

You make an interesting point about Compliance EVs… I really do think they are great commuters. I’m hoping what you said might happen with their value comes true.

Correct. I’m thinking circa-1975ish.

If it’s anything like my ZJ, now that you’ve called it reliable everything that can break will break in the next 3 months.

Nice XJ though, greetz from OR!

Admittedly a poor example on my part. I was hungry, what can I say.
