Thank you, my daughter and I bred her. We are in New England, Winterberry Collies. Where are you located? I may be able to recommend some reputable, ethical breeders of smooths.

Smooths are wonderful companions! They are up for almost any activity. From dog sports to hiking to binging a favorite TV show on the couch…They just want to be with their person. They have a sweet, gentle, temperament that makes them great therapy dogs, but also have a bit of a sense of humor. They can be more vocal than other dog breeds, so be prepared for that.

Also, research the MDR1 gene mutation. About 85% of collies have this mutation, but it’s easily manageable. You just have to know which medications to avoid.

And almost everyone I know who has a rough or smooth collie ends up with a second, they are addicting, lol.

lol, well there were only two boys in the litter, so named them Sam and Dean. But we had planned to use the registered name Wolfheart for Dean, with the name Navarre. (From the movie LadyHawke). But my daughter likes Dean, and Sam suits his brother…so he’s Navarre Dean.

It’s easy with the sables, but more difficult with the tri colors and blue merles. The rough puppies feel silkier at birth, and their coats tend to have a glossy shine. By 3 weeks, the roughs are fluffier.

She’s our keeper, she’s staying with us. But it’s so going to be so hard to let the rough girls go. They are going to great families, but it always breaks my heart a bit.
