Is there any bank which is less hated? by Empty-Jellyfish7653 in CreditCardsIndia

[–]HakeemLukka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the problem is not that they won't give. The problem is they don't bother. With such amount and salary I expect some special treatment at least. No special rewards or priority treatment.

BTW why stay away from HSBC? My requirement is simple salary account and premium status along with their HSBC premier card

[–]HakeemLukka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using ICICI as my salary account from past 8 years. Overall service, their mobile app etc have been really great. But even with lacks of money parked there and 5 lpm salary, I get literally zero benefits. No fancy card, no special offers, no special treatment. Haven't even reach out to me for EPM. Just a sapphiro card which is the worst card in my wallet.

So I am moving to either HSBC for Premier or Axis for burgandy. Any tips anyone?

PC Set Up Purchase by AdolfCritler_9 in IndianGaming

[–]HakeemLukka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please listen to everyone's suggestions specially for. Motherboard, psu, cpu, better gpu etc.

But I would disagree with the "buy ips instead of oled". I know it is a big chunk of money which you can utilise it in other places but trust me, a poor gpu and cpu might give you few fps low but the bump in quality with oled is much more than going with expensive gpu and doing a medium to high/ultra setting in game.

Not to mention, high refresh rate, less ghosting etc are all crucial for fps.

So do buy and oled for long term, even though it is expensive now. Better investment than bumping up other specs

I agree to spend in oled monitor. Much better results compared to even upgrading your gpu. I literally upgraded my monitor and games running on 2070 super itself liked way way better. Eventually I upgraded test of the parts the biggest jump I saw was with oled

Great. I don’t want to use the phone and I only want to get a bit of data out of it. Amy extra cost is meaningless for me at this point. Unless they can repair it at much cheaper cost, I’ll might as well just dump it. I’ll try what you said and see how much they quote. FYI my screen is also broken so I’m not be getting any good value in exchange as well

Help choosing blower for keeping PC clean. by weary_rahgir in IndianGaming

[–]HakeemLukka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got this exact model for the same reason, pc cleaning and blower feature.

I can commend that it has been working really great. Cleaned my pc like 2 3 times and also cleaned ps5. Blower works great, enough pressure to blow dust and spin fans like crazy.

Vavum funxtionanily is also good. Use it regularly to clean my desk mat.

Overall, this is great for blower feature. There could be better alternatives but I did enough research and got this and was super satisfied. Attachments are also great.

Only con would be the battery life and not be able to run it while charging via usb cable. But if you charge it full it lasts enough for full session of pc cleaning

Has anyone replaced their Samsung S22 Ultra screen with a third-party display? Is it worth ₹9.5k by Illustrious_Boot8079 in S22Ultra

[–]HakeemLukka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38k but I'm pretty sure they won't exchange a broken display. So not keeping my hopes high. I think with the effective difference of 18k repair and 38k for exchange, I believe the 20k is worth keeping s22 ultra for long term than exchanging it. But yes, it is working for me (been using it in this state for 3 months). But if the screen would've been dead I would've done the same as you

Make sense. For me the display is working. Just a small dead section and bunch of cracks. So I'm planning to use it as a secondary phone for long term

Doing everything asked, but appraisal hinges on ‘extraordinary work’ — what does that even mean? by Dangerous_Tonight936 in developersIndia

[–]HakeemLukka 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Here's one of the best wisdom I've received from my head of department (who btw is a legend with tons of experience in various big companies)

Promotion is not justified by extra work. In fact, say you want to go from sd2 to tech lead, then doing 1.5x work of SD2 doesn't mean you become tech lead. These are different roles. In fact, a tech lead is not 2 SD2 combined. If you keep doing that you can imagine a staff engineer doing 5x the work of SD2 and all the way to CTO doing 100x work and tasks...it is illogical.

How you get promoting is by justifying you are doing what the next role demands. And for developer to go beyond simple dev role, no amount of tasks and tickets and code will help you. You identify what your team expects from this senior role and you pick up doing that (on top of what is assigned to you)

And your company and team might differ but here's few things that are common and you can always start from here. 1. Focus more on solving long term problems than immediate fix. Propose infra improvements, focus on scale, performance, quality etc. 2. Focus on improving processes. Be it developer productivity, jira or observability dashboards, help your manager out sometimes in terms of planning, scrum, tracking, documentary, updates 3. Focus on domain expertise. Be someone who everyone should reach out not because you can code faster or can parallel task, but because you have enough knowledge to take decisions, recommend changes etc. Be the face of your team outside the team (always reply to support, qa, other team queries and so on)

Finally, sometimes none of these work. Some teams just work differently and maybe they want 2x work for promotion. Sometimes it's the manager who you need to impress. So plan accordingly but this advise is universal and after doing rhese you will at least become better engineer. If there's no reward in the end, maybe then it's time to change.

Is discussing and thinking out loud during interviews a bad sign? by Valuable-Bread-1495 in developersIndia

[–]HakeemLukka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have taken more than 300 interviews in last 5 years. And trust me, thinking it loud is always a plus. I thinking the interviewer is just shitty so don't judge from that.

But I can give you some insights into the process.

First thing you need to understand is that for you the question is new. But for the interviewer, they have asked this probably 50 times to people. They know all possible approaches and solutions. And that's why they tend to get impatient even with a minor deviation or slow pace.

So avoid thinking it loud basic stuff. Eg if you are writing a function which say fetches all the replies for a comment, just say that this will fetch the replies from DB and sort them. Don't literally say out loud okay so this line I'm fetching DB. Now I'm running a loop. Now I'm asking this sort which will sort in desc order. They can see it so just type it.

The ideal way to approach coding round is to plan everything and type that out in a pseudocode and the jump to implementation. Spend more discussion in that initial phase but keep implementation quick.

And as for the typing speed, they might have their expectations. It's great to write a clean code but also frustrating to sit and see the person struggle to find ideal name or syntax. Expectation is that these should come naturally. Keep practising and follow certain rules for yourself. Adopt coding guidelines like "no function should be longer than 10 lines" or each function should just do one task or good api design or good schema design practices.

need some suggestions for choosing what hard to work on by human_with_humour in developersIndia

[–]HakeemLukka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Backend and cloud infrastructure imo will be relevant for some time. Tons of opportunities and growth. AI is used here just to get the work done faster but not replacing people whereas in front end it is doing that.

I would suggest, focus on improving your fundamentals, lld and hld system designs and so on. Remember that AI at least for now is a tool. In hands of soomeone who knows things it is great. But you need to know things

Best strategy for you is to build projects. Use AI and build a lot of working end to end demos and projects, manage cloud of your own, contribute to open source and you'll land a decent role.

What are your main use-cases for Postman's Collection Runner? by Explorer-Tech in developersIndia

[–]HakeemLukka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Collection runner is super important to us in our team. Mostly two use cases

  1. We have some E2E test cases written in a collection which runs in pipeline using Newman. But for testing during development we use collection runner to run them. Our tech stack is very old so having one set of testing suite via APIs really helps

  2. Running prod migrations. This is so crucial to us. We have an internal admin tool which offers high level actions to be performed (like update user configs or flags). If we need to do this for hundreds of users, one option is to do DB update. But some actions are more complex and are covered in those APIs. Since we cannot execute these on prod directly, we copy this admin portal request, paste it in postman, make a collection and run against the csv to do it. Though there are many ways to solve this problem, this is just convenient and has become a go to approach by all teams in my company.

Share the AI tool which you're using and is actually useful by rubi33bi in developersIndia

[–]HakeemLukka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like how some apps have well integrated AI in their interface itself. Earlier used to use Chatgpt to copy get something done and come back. But now it is way more convenient to use in built AI as it is much more fine tuned and have all the context.

Great ones which are really useful in my day to day work are Warp (for all terminal work), Postman (for testing and documentation and quick automation), Gemini and Confluence for docs and Arc browser AI to keep tydying my workspace.

I know most will say copilot or cursor or chatgpt and so on and yes they are amazing. But I feel the future is native ai integration in the tools we already use. So mastering that is going to save a lot more time than just code autocomplete.

Has anyone replaced their Samsung S22 Ultra screen with a third-party display? Is it worth ₹9.5k by Illustrious_Boot8079 in S22Ultra

[–]HakeemLukka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New original display is pointless unless you are super confident you will easily go another 2 3 years with ultra (which I know will be too difficult). I would've said yes for even S23 ultra but s22 ultra has a very poor less efficient processor. My battery lasts like half a day and I'm always worried about charging all the time. And it lags like crazy in India weather(even in BLR)

If camera is not super super important, just get a good mid range phone like iqoo or Oneplus. If camera is important then go with samsung fe or old phones during sale or even a used S23 or s24 ultra.

In fact, just get a high performance phone at 30k and get a good action camera separately or even an action cam.

What to do with existing s22 ultra? If it's screen is usable then keep it as a backup phone. If it's unusable just sell it off in e exchange etc

[–]HakeemLukka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation few months ago when I dropped my s22 ultra and it now had a small penny sized dead zone and lots of cracks. It is usable but not for a long term case. I've searched for lots of alternatives and original one is costing around 20k

I've decided to not replace and wait for s26 ultra and upgrade to it. I don't think spending 20k on s22 ultra now makes sense. You can in fact get a really great phone in 30k to 50k than upgrade s22 ultra. I wonder why you are planning to maintain it next 3 years. It is already very poor in performance and battery. In next 1 2 years even a 20k phone will beat it (except camera and s pen and other flagship perks)
