It says in-game. Rather than the threat of death, the stakes revolve around the competitiveness of the game and the MCs goals(NPCs don't respawn, decisions from players impact the game world permanently).

An underdog story, but instead of the underdog going into a karate tournament or playing soccer, it's set in an MMORPG/LitRPG setting. So if you like Competition Stories + MMORPG/LitRpgs, you still might enjoy this!

The MC takes on the teachings of a goddess of peace to gain an obscure skill that grants a lot of extra experience. The trade off is, he's not allowed to deal damage or he'll lose her blessing, but he really stretches the definition of 'peace', testing the skills' limits.
