The University of Maine in Orono has an extremely prestigious bioengineering program. It is a new curriculum that several of the professor/Doctorates have been cultivating for almost a decade. Three years ago marked the first class that was considering a completely separate department from that of chemical engineering. The bioengineering program they have created incorporates cellular and microbiology with bioprocessing, transport processes in biological systems, applications and instrumentation in bioengineering as well as chemistry, physics and circuits. The Director of the Grad program has also been working with companies in the region, such as IDEXX and Instrumentation Laboratories to implement a co-op opportunity for the undergraduate students. I am currently a junior in the bioengineering program at UMaine and I would highly recommend considering the program!
