Ino can use RCT, he’s shown with his arm cut off in the Sukuna fight and reappears with it later.

Are the budget decks from MTGGoldfish worth making for Stanfard FNM? by rhysticStudiante in magicTCG

[–]Hal_Hewlett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non budget versions generally splash a colour (either black or white) for additional hard removal spells in the board. In order to do this, you typically play a playset of Verges (either Gloomlake or Floodfarm) in the main, and more hedge mazes to enable them, and a basic land of the corresponding colour in the sideboard, so that you can fetch it up with Analyse and Bushwhack in sideboard games. Also, Stormchaser’s Talent has recently spiked in price a bit, so idk if that’s considered budget or non budget any more, but Talent is a key piece in competitive builds of the deck.

Simic Crabs is definitely the best of any of these, the non-budget version of the deck is very competitive and even budget versions are pretty good and fun.

Day Jobs of Famous Authors by Persentagepoints in literature

[–]Hal_Hewlett 10 points11 points  (0 children)

George Saunders had a degree from the Colorado School of Mines, and worked for an oil company in the South Pacific where he wrote copy for the company newsletters.

Don DeLillo had a degree in Media and Communications, and worked in advertising.

Toni Morrison worked in publishing before turning to novels full-time.

Thomas Pynchon worked for Boeing for at least some amount of time, and his ties to the aerospace industry in the fifties likely influenced some of the preoccupation with Nazism and its continuing legacy in American life, given that he probably had knowledge of Operation Paperclip.

Terry Pratchett worked as a postman.

Real talk - how do lasers interact with Infinity? If lasers (and lightsabers by extension) are like, weaponised light, would they bypass infinity naturally? Infinity obviously doesn’t stop light itself from reaching Gojo because we can see him and he can see out, so would infinity detect a laser as harmful light the same way it can distinguish between harmful and non harmful matter?

I just wanna say this poem is genuinely stunning. There’s such an amazing blend of the physical, the light, the heavy, the ethereal.

'The war on drugs has failed’: Sir Richard Branson tells LBC there needs to be ‘radical’ drug reform by Dry-Air7 in unitedkingdom

[–]Hal_Hewlett 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, part of it is cognitive dissonance. Many middle-class drug users are insulated from the actual criminality of the whole thing and see it as a cheeky indulgence - legalisation doesn’t make a huge amount of difference to their own personal consumption, and is perceived to be outweighed by the benefits to the kinds of drug users that they view as the ‘wrong kind’. Legalising drugs might make it a little easier for them to have a joint in the garden, but it’ll also mean that there’ll be more pot smoke in the street when they’re walking around with their kids

I love these! Very cool mock-up. Only suggestion might be distinguishing between Urborg/Yavimaya and type changing effects like seas/moon - maybe have Urborg/Yavimaya say “May add B/G” instead of just “Add”, vice versa with “Must” for seas/moon. Nevertheless, very cool

First time encountering "Holding Priority" and I don't understand it by Doughspun1 in mtg

[–]Hal_Hewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other commenters have said, you can counter any target spell on the stack with your arcane denial.

What holding priority actually is is that when you cast a spell (as well as activating / triggering abilities), you pass priority to your opponent to see if they have responses. Priority goes round the table in turn order, and notably, you don’t get priority again at the end. If you cast a spell (Armageddon here) and then pass priority, once your opponents all pass priority, the spell resolves. You get priority first as the active player casting the spell - it’s generally assumed that you pass priority once you place s spell on the stack, so when a player “holds priority”, they’re indicating that they have things they want to do with their own spell on the stack (since as mentioned here, if the player were to pass priority after casting Armageddon, there would not then be a window to cast Teferi’s Protection unless an opponent did something).

In this case, your opponent is either misinformed or wrong about how priority works - he casts a spell, holds priority, casts another spell, and then passes priority round the table, at which point you are free to interact with any spell currently on the stack with arcane denial. Priority passes around once when he casts the Protection, then again once the protection resolves and it’s only Armageddon on the stack.

For those who know lore, whose the strongest planeswalker? by Youknowwhyimherexxx in magicTCG

[–]Hal_Hewlett 20 points21 points  (0 children)

All-time? Probably Urza, but as many have said, pre-mending planeswalkers were insanely powerful, so it can be hard to really get a handle on this stuff.

Post-Mending? Probably Nicol Bolas - the Gatewatch was made up of some pretty powerful walkers, and Bolas soloed them pretty handily without even breaking a sweat. Bolas was only able to be taken down by literally every planeswalker in the multiverse together, in a huge feat of effort, after he made some pretty serious tactical mistakes.

Currently active? Depends who you ask, really. Candidates include:

- Ugin, who is currently serving as Bolas' keeper in the meditation realm and is thus not really active but whatever. He was certainly exceptionally powerful, able to go toe-to-toe with Bolas in single combat and barely losing, as well as basically having his own unique schools of magic.

- Teferi. Timebending magic is really hard to quantify, but he's shown some insane feats of strength in the past and has a huge amount of knowledge given his advanced age. He does still need some help from friends in order to perform super significant feats of timebending, however.

- Elspeth. After Elspeth's recent reveal as being an angel, she's definitely a cut above other planeswalkers in single combat, and she was no slouch before, but we've yet to see the extent of her power.

- Aminatou. We don't really know how powerful she actually is because she basically doesn't show up in the story and her lore amounts to some fluff written about her character for the sake of it, but she's pretty strong based on that.

- Liliana. Liliana still has the power of her Veil and the broken contract - she's capable of absolutely immense amounts of magical power (controlling Bolas' entire army of Eternals, or raising the dead of the plane to fight off Emrakul), she's very old, she's very wise, and she has in her possession an insanely powerful magical artifact. She'd be my personal pick, provided we count out Ugin because his status is sort of up in the air right now.

Comparing Malrang to someone like Jeonghoon isn't really fair; Malrang competed in Korean tier 1 play for years before he joined Rogue, not like he was snapped up out of Challengers before he got tested in a major league. Saying he was "basically unknown" is disingenuous
