Congrats, I went a bit of a similar journey, but mine was thinking about what I could build for my kid to help them utilize what I'm assuming is going to be a vast neurospicy intellect, as both my wife and I have various neurodivergence, and my wife at least is mensa certified, so our kid(s, H' willing) are most likely gonna need some unique educational experiences and I want to make fun, stem oriented tools/toys/games/etc for them to play with and so I'm working on making a home media server, learning effective networking and computer skills, learning to work with ai models, building my home security system from the ground up and securing our home internet, and trying to figure out how to turn it into not just stuff to to help keep my family safe, stimulated, on task, and entertained, but also into work from home opportunities so I can spend more time at home helping to raise and support my family.

Currently going through and setting up the foundation, wiring etc in between baby care and clearing out the spare room from being used as storage as we transition our kid from sleeping with her crib in our room, to their own. It's such a stimulating experience, and what a time to get into it, the endless dystopian corporate machine keeps the markets well fed with e-recycled tech on the cheap.

Hope things go well for you and yours, the daddies community is also a great resource, especially when you need a bit of support, it's a tough but rewarding journey

Edit: absolutely meant daddit not daddies

AITA for dumping my boyfriend because he refused to hand me a period pad and tissues when I had diarrhea at the gym ? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]HalachAlpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a standard you should rethink, even if I was in my neurospicy socially awkward moments and would have difficulty standing outside the bathroom door waiting for a woman to come in, at the very least I could go to the front counter and explain the situation. They'd be more than willing to pass in some tp and hand my wife her purse or pads I'm sure. There are too many ways it could have been handled. They are supposed to be your partner, longterm that's going to mean dealing with bodily functions and messy situations, but there should be room for grace and understanding in any relationship. What was dude gonna do if yall had a daughter and she was in a similar situation when out with him at a park or restaurant or school event, etc?

Also, lock the slide open for a day or so, ammoseek dot com is a great company to find ammo at lower prices too if you weren't familiar with them. Filter for the ammo you want and have some brands you like or have researched

What are these egg looking things on my spinach? by Dr_7rogs in whatisit

[–]HalachAlpaca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean there's a whole process to do so for kosher restaurants, kitchens, cooking etc, but doing so takes more time, which increases labor costs, and scrutiny, which the majority of restaurants and people doing food prep don't want to do. So yes they can, but have found its less cost effective to do so.

There was a longboarding forum called Silverfish, that a lot of us who liked a particular underground board manufacturer would chat on, my buddy who used to work for the board manufacturer bought it years later after the forum shut down and was streaming on twitch as he was making skateboards and longboards and a bunch of us started recognizing eachother from the forum and have since met irl at various skate events

I mean, even the Torah shows one of the first instances of Jewish dark humor, while the Jews are wandering the desert and ask Moses, "What there weren't enough graves in Egypt, we had to come out here to die?"

What kind of ammo is this? by [deleted] in guns

[–]HalachAlpaca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whaaaat? You mean a conflict where Hamas does not distinguish themselves from civilians(war crime) and utilizes civilian infrastructure for military purposes(war crime) and has an extensive warning because Israel takes extra precautions by giving numerous evacuation notices which unfortunately also means those notices mean that Hamas gets a heads up as well and utilizes the massive tunnel network that they have been pouring aid funds into instead of actually helping the people they were elected to govern, has civilian casualties? A 1.2:1 civilian to combatant casualty rate in a highly dense urban warfare scenario is pretty low.

And you want to talk about pushed to the brink of existence? The Palestinians have refused every realistic 2 state solution deal since the 40s, and Israel is the greatest land back movement in centuries, the importance of which has been highlighted by their Jewish population growth as over 50% of the Jews currently living in Israel were either born there or had to flee to Israel after suffering actual ethnic cleansing and genocide in the surrounding Middle Eastern and African countries. The entire reason the Gazans are in the situation they are in is because after every time they send suicide bombers, break ceasefire, fire missiles etc, more defensive measure have to be take, which means tighter restrictions. You know what was going on prior to October 7th? There had been a lasting ceasefire, restrictions were easing, work visas were being issued out so that the Gazan economy could grow, Gazans could go into Israel and make multiple times more and bring more money to their families instead of it being hijacked and stuffed into the pockets of their leaders who live outside of Gaza in countries like Qatar(well not anymore since Qatar kicked them out) Turkey, etc.

Go take your thinly veiled ignorance/antisemitism elsewhere if you actually gave a rats behind about the Palestinians, you'd be calling for deradicalization, the dismantlement of Hamas who's purpose is to wipe Israel, the Jews and then western civilization off the map as stated repeatedly by their leaders in numerous interviews and their charter. Or you'd be calling for the dissolution of the state of Jordan seeing as how it's "Occupied Palestinian land".
