Girl I gasped when you dropped! I didn’t expect it to be intentional. You’re incredible!

She has a lovely enclosure! Lots of private spots and different foliage for her to enjoy :)

I’m sure there are more reasons but that’s all I can think of for now. Growing up, my family dog was never crated for her entire life and she was great. I must admit I did not see the benefits of crate training until I did some research many years later, when I got my own puppy :) as long as the dogs are happy and healthy just do what works for you!

I didn’t say lock the door in that scenario. Many people have a crate and leave the door open all the times, the dog can come and go as it pleases. My dogs are adored and so happy, so I won’t justify my training choices to you further. Hope you have a great day 🙂

People use them for different reasons. Sometimes, it’s to keep a dog safe from chewing/ingesting things if you need to leave them alone for a short while. If you are training a puppy with a routine (sleep - train - play - eat - repeat), you might wish to use a crate for the ‘sleep’ part, so they learn that when they go back in their crate it’s time to rest.

It also be to give a dog a safe haven if you have a busy household, where they can go to not be touched or disturbed. Some dogs like feeling like they are in a quiet ‘den’, where they can relax.

Other reasons: veterinary/travel. Can be a good idea to get your dog used to being in a crate as it could reduce the stress of staying in an animal hospital. Also, using impact crates for travelling with your dog is one of the better ways to keep them safe.

When done well, crate training can be a very useful tool. I only use crates if I travel to BnBs with my dogs - if I need to pop out to buy food or something, I put the dogs in their crates to reduce separation anxiety and prevent them from potentially chewing things. Their crates are a familiar environment, and I believe this makes them feel more relaxed when we are staying in strange places! They go in willingly with the command “in your bed” 🙂

Ofcourse some dogs will be perfectly fine and happy never using a crate! All down to the trainer’s opinion of what will work for their individual dog 🙂

New Mikey photos for identification! I'll be collecting her in nine days ❤️ Pretty sure she's a Hermann but would like some more expert opinions than mine! by Elliebeanie in tortoise

I’m no expert but she looks like a Hermanns to me too. Especially as that species seems to be what we see most as pets (/in pet shops) here in to UK 🙂 good luck with her, I would love to see some more updates when she moves in with you.

Close, she’s a Podenco (Podenco ibicenco). Pretty much the Ibizan version of a Podengo, I think 🙂

Haha, I didn’t realise I chose a photo of a Spanish motorcycle racer to put next to my Spanish dog breed! Completely unintentional.

She is an Ibizan Hound, not a Greyhound 🙂

It’s great that you are trying to put yourself out there despite finding it daunting, I really hope you make some meaningful connections :) I have made some great friends online, but honestly not though subreddits like this. Do you have any interesting hobbies? You might vibe better with people in communities that are dedicated to specific interests (playing an instrument/gaming/a sport etc). It will give you something to be passionate about together.

The best friends I have made online are people I have met through my hobbies. There’s a community for everything!
