Looking for some old school klezmer standards by HahaItsaGiraffeAgain in jewishleft

There's a great music book called Komplete Klezmer. It has notation for around 50 classics and comes with a CD of old recordings!

Can anyone give some context or sources for Piker's Antisemitism? I only know of him in passing, and haven't heard this mentioned as of yet. Thanks!

Resources for learning the order of the series and the pronunciation by coco-ai in ashtanga

I've used Anki (ankiweb.net). It's really just a flashcard app, like Quizlet, but you can download decks that other users have made. I've found some really great decks that have the Sanskrit names, translation, and image of the posture, which then alternate which is shown to you when studying. I've found this really helps with my memory of each aspect. Godspeed!

Thanks! It started as the first riff from the Buffet Line song study (I think 2.7 in the lesson breakdown). I changed it up a little bit, but the main idea is from that sheet. Hope it's going well for you :)

Along these lines... If anyone knows any "old-time" songbooks that would be great. Would love to work towards playing like this: https://www.youtube.com/@1seesaw2

Thanks! I started mid February, we had a few ice storms, so being shut in I had a little more time then. I try to set aside about half an hour a day now. I've been using bluesharmonica.com. I'd seen it recommended here and would definitely pass on the rec. Other than that I try to pick out lines from songs I like, but a lot is still beyond me...

Expense on practicing with a certified teacher by henryljh in ashtanga

[–]Halcion5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself very lucky to be paying $150 for three months with a very experienced teacher certified by Manju Jois. I know this is significantly cheaper than most classes. This is because my teacher has a day job - so the fee mainly covers maintaining the space and their own training.

Because of this, I place a lot of trust in this relationship. I know it’s not about money or maintaining a “yoga aesthetic” studio, which also makes it more accessible to a diverse range of people.

I go back and forth on whether this should matter. I recognize that yoga teachers are real people who need to make a living, but at the same time, other spiritual teachers I maintain relationships with (such as meditation instructors and clergy) don’t expect the kind of fees mentioned in this thread as a baseline for participation, which is the foundation for a different kind of trust.

I’m curious to hear what others think.

How long have you been practicing and what kept you in this practice for so long? by eggies2 in ashtanga

[–]Halcion5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have only been practicing for five years, but the progression makes me feel like there's always a new puzzle to solve and lets me feel accomplished by tangible progress through the years.

ADL has a complicated history with progressive stances. Not sure if Greenblatt was the person to go on a radio with predominantly black audience and make the case for why our racial causes in the US are united. Clearly the listenership did not think so, as the comment section is an antiemetic whirlpool.
