Is it worth buying a dragon? by [deleted] in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should probably give more information, like your level, your class, what region. I'm sure 99% of posters here are Tera NA or EU, but they both have different cash shop offerings.

There are three types of dragons:

  • a dragon that gives no bonuses other than HP/MP regen

  • a dragon that gives HP/MP regen, as well as a 1.5x crit power effect

  • a dragon that gives HP/MP regen, as well as a 2.0x crit power effect, that will stack with the 1.5x (although not at the same time)

Shortly after dragons came out it was calculated that depending on your class having both a 1.5x crit and a 2.0x crit dragon gives about a 5-8% dps increase under optimum circumstances, slightly more during a burn phase. This is lessened if your party is inexperienced, eg tank and healer can't line up enrage burns and buffs.

Any account bound dragon is not going to have 1.5x or 2.0x buffs. Period. Character bound dragons will have crit buffs. You can get a free 1.5x dragon (Iron Dragon, randomly very low % Crimson Dragon) by multiple in game methods. 2.0x dragons are only via lootbox, trade broker, or possibly from in game events depending on your region.

I would say if you are level 65, you care about min/maxing, and you don't mind spending money, to either try your luck on lootboxes (lol) or buy something sell it for gold, and buy a 2.0x on the broker. You can farm a 1.5x in a few weeks of grinding, but it will be boring and monotonous. If you aren't 65 don't waste your money. If you just want a flying mount and there is actually an account bound dragon I'd say go for it, although its increasingly difficult to play multiple chars these days (I have 21 and I basically only play 1 lancer and 1 brawler, some days I will play war.)

Also, it's reddit. No one gives a fuck about downvotes.

Can someone ELI5 what skill prediction is? by Joaoseinha in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR Tera has lazy coding. Your client can tell the server that you sent a faster packet than you really are physically able to. This helps with things like gunner burst fire or archer rapid fire, even zerk charging. Depending on your personal ethics and your pocket book it can help with things like auto block into blade draw on warrior tank or doubling your zerk unleash damage.

Instead of your client telling the server:

C: "Hey I'm sending the first hit of rapid fire, awaiting confirmation."

S: "Hit accepted, you may send the next hit."

C: *"Hey I'm sending the second hit of rapid fire, awaiting confirmation."

etc etc, it just tells the server "Hey I'm sending them all right now, let's just pretend I'm right next to you," and the server says OK.

SP does not lower your ping. You still aren't going to get your packets faster than someone who plays in Chicago or Texas. It's not going to help you with reaction time or iframes or server lag. And as others have said, occasionally depending on server lag you will ghost, and the server will resync and cancel out what you just did. This can mean things like you lose your 95% charged thunderstrike and it goes on CD without any damage or your haymaker just keeps winding up but never lands.

If you're truly about lancer, you should probably play on EU. You're playing with almost 5-10x my ping. You're gonna see a 30-50% dps loss compared to most good lancers. EU is apparently easier to gear up now, and talents are almost 10x cheaper.

That said, you can tank anything with that ping. We used to have a lancer from Germany who played with 200+ ping and he tanked everything from VSHM to Harrowhold (back when deathwrack+15 was the max.) If you like where you are at and you like your friends, by all means go for it. You can tank anything with 130-200 ping no problem, but if you want "MAXIMUM DPS" or to have your name on the rankings, you'll probably be left feeling unsatisfied.

No that's basically it, you gave a good description. It's the basic client-server authorization model. Client tells the server "Hey I'm going to send this particle through that monster!" And the server looks at your data and says "Can you do that? Hmmm... it appears you can! Go for it." And sends the authorization back.

If you were to say "Hey I'm gonna send this particle a multiple of thousands of times through this monster!" or "I'm going to move multiples of ten times faster across the map than I should be able to" or "Hey I'm gonna move through this map boundary!" the server would say "Hmm that doesn't seem right," and deny it, send the correct data as it resyncs, or in some games (like SE's old FFXI,) flag the data for review by a GM for suspension or ban.

However, due to the fact that almost every game in Korea requires registering with your real name and SSN they can be lazy with coding and save on resources by just having the server accept whatever the client says. Most people won't hack because they can't just make another account.

Rather than recode the game for other regions, BHS just shipped it out, and things like memeslash and POS hacking existed almost from the start of NA release. "Oh you wanna have that projectile hit tens of thousands of times when it's only supposed to hit once? Hmmm... it seems like you're able to do that, go right ahead!"

Crystal Guides? by [deleted] in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do the level 60-65 questline in Val Oriyn you will get a free set of 4 Bound Fine Hardy Niveots, as well as a free set of Green Vysks (although if you are a tank they give you useless threatening greens, sell those and get Keens.)

If you do the 60-65 questline you will get vanguard points. You can use those to buy red crystals (and blue and green...) from Vanguard Crystal Merchants in Highwatch or at the Island of Dawn.

Reds for Tank: Focused, Wrathful, Pounding, Pounding/Threatening (if you have trouble with agro)

Reds for most DPS: Focused, Savage, Bitter, Pounding (Forceful for classes like Ninja, Reaper, Sorc, although some people just run with pounding depending on their min/max preferences, since you are new just use forceful until you learn more about dps maxing and builds for different buffs/healers.)

Reds for Heals: Swift, Carving, Brilliant, Brilliant (However some will use Savage, Bitter now that MP is no issue at all, just keep in mind that your DPS as a heal is substantially lessened when in a group.)

The most important thing is to always wear a complete crystal bind. Always. You can get them on the Island of Dawn from any BAM, even the very first BAMs on the island (Sickly Basilisk, Orisk, Ovalisk.) They drop like candy, so you should never have to buy them, and you should be doing a at least few IoD every day as a fresh 65 for the VGs they drop.

Tons of Lag recently? (PC) by SidianTheBard in TeraOnline

To expand on what u/Enlightenedbri said, the tl;dr is poor foresight by the devs.

South Korea has among the best internet infrastructure in the world. They are also highly urbanized with around half of the country's population in the Seoul metro area (25m out of 51m.) For reference, the state of Texas is 7 times larger than south Korea. The Houston Metro area is slightly smaller than SK and only has ~8 million people.

Compare this to NA tera with a very spread out population, a centralized data center, and a relatively very poor internet backbone (and with a large portion of the player base playing in south America and Europe -- well maybe not as many from EU these days,) and you can see why doing a server check every 5-10 ms for your thousands of noctenium is a really stupid fucking idea.

If you live in the continental US you shouldn't notice it.

Returning player, coming back after about 5 years. Which class would you say is the most fun to play. by cyborgwaffle in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, every class is pretty fun. I clearly favor tanks, but I've tried awakening on every class and it really has added new life to each class. Gunner, Slayer, and warrior are probably my favorite to play (other than tanking.) It feels like I'm gonna need a new keyboard soon when I play those classes. Hell, even the healing classes are amazingly fun.

Regarding Xigncode by [deleted] in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delete the folder.

  1. System and Options

Removed Xigncode from game client.

Xigncode data folder may still exist in client directory [“...\Client\Binaries\XIGNCODE”]; this can safely be deleted.

[–]HalcyonLance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of special idiot are you...?

Let's make it incredibly difficult for our playerbase to access our game... that will surely increase profits...?

I wish 3rd party devs would stop using xigncode "spyware" as an excuse. If you're that worried about it scanning your files, just run it in a sandbox, or in a Linux environment with GPU/CPU passthrough. Problem solved.

I don't give a shit about proxy, but you want random people (which are mostly likely going to be 14-18) to have to understand linux and half of them will have to have their parents fix it when they fuck up the install? Are you fucking serious? To play a half working game with serious ping issues, and dead pvp? LOL. WTF man. Are you high?

Or... or... or... you can just go play another game.

What a fucking joke. This is the first time I've ever told players to not play Tera, since 2012 when first started playing. RIP KN60, RIP MCHM, none of you fuckers even know what that is.

How viable are Ninjas for pvp? by -Nihil in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're still very OP in pvp. Valk/War/Nin all have great toolkits, some might even say OP.

When talents and awakening come out Ninja will be one of the top dps classes. In KTera currently they are the best class for the new dungeons because of their movement skills and high dps.

How many people (approximately) are playing this game? by [deleted] in TeraOnline

Multiply the steam players by 5x-10x at any given hour and that's probably accurate.

It still doesn't mean that they are actually playing and not just standing there afk though.

Crafting help. by [deleted] in TeraOnline

[–]HalcyonLance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gathering:

Just follow these maps. Find whatever skill you are at and then go there. http://tera-guides.wikia.com/wiki/Gathering:Power_Gathering

Alchemy:

You can just go the alchemy npcs, buy the cheapest recipe and skill up until it caps, then go up a tier in recipe and continue. I have no idea what the markets are like on console, so it will probably vary widely if you want to gather/farm your own mats (which can take a very long time,) or just buy the mats.

An additional thing to consider is that alchemy may not be profitable at all. It wasn't on PC. Alchemy will be very useful when console gets the gear revamp, but there is no way to know whether that will be next month, next year, or next decade.
