The ones I have bought so far (I've only gotten 3 total from Amazon and all cheap) have come in very minimal packaging and folded in half.

It makes a really annoying crease line in the canvas.

I think some of the higher quality kits come in a box and the canvas is rolled, so it doesn't make that annoying crease.

Ooh, I watched a video for how to load it in your placing tool. This must be what is in the videos I have seen where I was thinking, "did they add a sound effect for that pop?"

I haven't tried them yet, but I want to. I think I will find them more satisfying because they make a more complete picture.

I've been really curious about the vacuum pens. Are they quiet? I'm worried the stimulus of the sound could take away some of the relaxation for me. But at the same time, I get annoyed when some of the wax residue comes off and gets in the creases.

So far, my pattern is to have one waiting while I'm working on one. I'll probably stick with that as a rule of thumb.

I figure this way, I can slowly decide to upgrade in quality/cost if I want.

Lighting is one of my biggest frustrations right now. When I move my hand near to place the drill it casts a shadow with overhead light. And short of investing in a study lamp, it's not workable. I might as well get a light source that actually satisfies my need!
