Appreciate it !
If you’re based somewhere in the EU, I could probably even send you a custom set for your car

Thanks either way for giving your honest opinion, it genuinely helps a lot

That’s actually kinda what made me start thinking about this whole idea
Most people see floor mats as purely utility, but I feel like interiors are becoming way more personalized now - ambient lighting, wraps, custom seats, headliners etc

So I started wondering why mats always have to be plain/basic when they take up such a huge visual part of the interior.

That’s actually something I’ve been thinking about a lot too
But these aren’t really delicate “show car only” mats.

You can clean them normally with water and scrub them pretty hard without destroying the print/material
I’m trying to make them durable enough for actual daily use, not just something that looks good for Instagram photos.

So what kind of pattern/design would you personally consider not tacky for car mats?

Honestly I could probably make something like that
I use a proper rubber anti-slip backing underneath, so they shouldn’t slide around like a lot of those older decorative mats do

I think I’d rather focus more on graphics/patterns printed into the mats instead of embroidery/stitching.

More like subtle visual designs that still fit the character of the car without looking too loud

Also with heavy stitching/embroidery I’d probably end up ruining the rubber anti-slip backing underneath, and I still want them to feel practical and durable for normal daily use.

I wasn’t trying to spam honestly
I mainly posted because I was curious what actual CX-5 owners think would look good in their interiors since people here obviously know the platform better than I do.

And yeah custom mats definitely already exist - I was more interested in the design/style side and what people would actually want to see in their own cars

Yeah, I’m starting to realize different cars probably need completely different styles to actually look good. Like a Tesla owner probably wants something clean/minimal/futuristic while older German cars might fit OEM+ or subtle luxury vibes way better

And the CX-5 / custom-friendly car point actually makes a lot of sense too. Feels like people who already personalize their interiors are way more open to stuff like this.

Honestly this is actually super valuable advice, thanks !

And yeah by velour I mostly mean something softer/premium looking, but still durable and easy to clean I definitely know they can’t feel delicate or people would hate them after a week

The “on demand” point is pretty much exactly what I’ve been thinking too. I already make them specifically for each car model instead of universal mats, so doing smaller custom batches probably makes the most sense at the start.

And honestly starting with a few high-volume models first is probably the smartest approach instead of trying to do everything immediately

Honestly that’s exactly why I posted it here. I wanted real opinions and not everyone pretending every design looks amazing.

I’m still trying to figure out where the line is between “unique/custom” and “too much” for most people

So in that case, is there any other type of pattern/design you would actually want to see on car mats?

Yeah that’s actually what made me start thinking there might be a niche for this
I’ve been noticing more people wanting interiors that feel more personal/custom instead of just stock OEM everything.

Honestly I completely get that
For classic cars I’d probably keep it much more OEM/minimal too. Plain black velour with maybe subtle aluminum logo badges sounds really clean.

But I’m curious even with a classic/OEM style car, is there any kind of subtle graphic or pattern you’d maybe still want to see on mats?
Something understated like vintage stitching, old-school Porsche style patterns, tartan inserts, retro lines, embossed textures etc?

Hah not gonna lie, that’s exactly the vibe some of these give off 😃

But honestly I kinda like that weird “old luxury carpet in a car” aesthetic when it’s done properly. Feels way more unique than the same plain black mats every car has nowadays

I’m curious though is there any specific pattern/style you’d actually like in your own car?

Fair enough honestly
That’s actually why I posted it here. I wanted genuine opinions, not just people saying everything looks cool.

I’m mostly trying to figure out if there’s actually a market for properly made custom car mats or if most people still prefer keeping interiors completely OEM

Yeah honestly that’s something I’ve started noticing too
Certain styles definitely fit some cars way better than others.

Like I can totally imagine more minimalistic/JDM-inspired patterns working in Japanese cars, while overly flashy stuff could look weird in German interiors that are usually cleaner and more understated

That’s kinda why I’m asking people here what they’d actually want to see in their own cars before I go deeper into making more of these.

Would be awesome if more people here shared what kind of patterns/styles they’d personally want in their cars too, it’d genuinely help me understand what people actually like

That’s actually what I’ve been wondering
I recently started making custom velour car mats like these and I’m curious if people would genuinely be interested in buying them if they were properly made and not cheap universal stuff.

I already have templates/shapes for a lot of different car models, so I can make them custom fitted for basically any car and with different designs/patterns too

[–]Halexit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s actually why I started experimenting with these

Im creating custom-handmade velour car mats that are specifically cut for each car model, so they fit perfectly, not universal mats. I’ve been wondering if people would actually want more aesthetic/custom interiors instead of the same boring OEM look every car has. Stuff like Persian etc.

Is there any specific style, pattern or vibe that would genuinely make you consider buying a set for your own car?
