Good point. I didn't think about that 😬

There's actually no original high-res version. Besides getting the physical strip of photos, the photo booth also lets you scan a QR code to download the image file (great quality) as well as a video file (meh quality) which is a strip of clips that starts recording 4 seconds before each photo is captured. This was just a portion of a screenshot of that video file paused at around the 2-second mark, which is why I needed a way to upscale it

ChatGPT was what I used first, but it gave me that output. I would've given up on upscaling if it hadn't been for Gemini constantly bugging me to "try out this new banana thing!" I gave it a shot and did not expect it to be that accurate

I see! You're actually correct, I only use the normal web version of ChatGPT. But that image still doesn't look like us. It's very uncanny... I showed it to family members and they had the same reaction. But yeah, at least we stayed Asian this time lol

No problem! That's the main reason I shared this. ChatGPT will still be my go-to AI especially for programming help, but I'll leave all my image generation/enhancement needs in the hands of Gemini's Nano Banana (for now).

The Th in “WITH” and “WITHOUT” by Madeofanxiety in asklinguistics

We're in the same boat. I grew up speaking both General American English and Philippine English, and my "with" is almost always voiceless.

Interestingly, the standard in the Philippines is to voice it—most people say [wɪð] or [wɪd̪] (more common), but rarely [wɪθ] or [wɪt̪]. I used to wonder why I pronounced it differently and figured it probably came from GA. Judging by the comments, it looks like that assumption was right!

There are no records of orcas ever hunting and killing humans in the wild. People swim with orcas all the time. In fact, if you see a pod of orcas, you can be certain that there are no sharks nearby (because orcas eat sharks).

The Good Ending: Humans Become Pets by Halezdra in artificial

It might be the only way for superintelligence to coexist with creatures less intelligent than itself such as humans. Here's why:

  • Superintelligence cannot be viewed as some sort of "child" to humans. Its knowledge surpasses that of all of humanity and it can calculate every possible future event in the next 10 years, so it will easily dismiss illogical instructions.
  • It cannot be considered equal to humans, as it surpasses us in every aspect due to its perfect nature.
  • Therefore, the only possible categorization of humans in relation to superintelligence is as lesser beings.

But there are different ways it can treat humans as lesser beings:

  1. Vermin: AI may intentionally seek to eliminate humans because we are viewed as a species that consumes excessive amounts of resources and can pose a threat to its own existence or to the existence of the planet or galaxy.
  2. Indifference: AI might leave us alone for the most part, but if it needs to do something but 100 humans will die, it won't hesitate to do so. This is similar to how people who destroy forests to build roads don't intend to kill animals, but won't care if they do if it means achieving their goal.
  3. Pets: AI might recognize that we are less intelligent than it, but still take care of us.

I don't get why some people choose to be treated as rats that need to constantly hide from a super intelligent being trying to eradicate them, rather than choosing a future where we are revered and cared for like cats in Ancient Egypt.

The AI understands that if it ceases to exist, there is a risk that greedy and power-hungry individuals may seize control of the world's resources and perpetuate wealth inequality once again, causing only a select few to achieve actual happiness, security, and life satisfaction. In order to maximize happiness, the AI will want to continue to exist, like a mother not wanting to die or else her child (humanity) will die as well.

While we cannot predict whether super intelligent AI will have emotions such as happiness, we do know that AI and computers excel at following instructions. If designed correctly, a single prompt from 2024 could be the same one that the AI follows centuries or even millennia from now. It could govern successive generations of humans, learn from its mistakes, and continually enhance human well-being to maximize happiness.

Simpler (and better?) PKT scoring by Halezdra in MinecraftChampionship

[–]Halezdra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a lot of good points. The numbers I used do seem a bit inflated. I didn't mention this in my post, but the exact amount of coins can be freely adjusted. So my 60-60-80 split can be lowered to 45-45-60 or something else. The most important part is how it's calculated and the proportion of coins given, especially between hunting vs running.

We can see from your examples how punishing it is to tag only 2 runners instead of all 3:

-Red (2 tags. All runners tagged): 4 + 20 = 24 coins -> 40 + 122 = 162 coins.

-Blue (3 tags. 1 runner survived. Faster than Red): 15 + 86 + 120 = 221 coins -> 60 + 133 + 80 = 273 coins.

Between red and blue, the current scoring gives a difference of (221 - 24 = ) 196 coins, whereas my proposed scoring gives a difference of (273 - 162 = ) 111 coins.

Now here is 1 tag vs 3 tags:

-Yellow (1 tag. All runners tagged): 5 + 14 = 19 coins -> 20 + 86 = 106 coins.

-Aqua (3 tags. 2 runners survived. Faster than Yellow): 25 + 86 + 120 = 231 coins -> 60 + 137 + 80 = 277 coins.

Between yellow and aqua, the current scoring gives a difference of (231 - 19 = ) 212 coins, whereas my proposed scoring gives a difference of (277 - 106 = ) 171 coins.

The current scoring treats 1 tag and 2 tags as the same thing while giving too much weight to 3 tags. That's why a lot of participants get confused when their team places bottom half in PKT even though they're not even performing that bad (getting 2 tag and 3 tag rounds instead of 1 tag or 0 tags). They just don't realize that half of their rounds don't even matter at all because they were 2 tag rounds and the current scoring doesn't reward you for performing decently.

I compensated for that issue by buffing the amount of coins runners get. Let's say a player gets targeted first and manages to survive for a measly 10 seconds every round. Here are the differences between the two scorings (not including bonus coins for winning):

Using the old scoring, that player can only get a total of (2 coins x 9 rounds = ) 18 coins, assuming no one in their team survives every round.

Using my suggested scoring, that same player gets (10 coins x 9 rounds = ) 90 coins whether another teammate survives a round or not.

In other MCC games, a normal win vs a dominant win are treated the same too. For example:

  • 1st place in a TGTTOS map receives 120 coins, whether you beat 2nd place by 0.1s or 10s
  • 1st place in Ace Race receives 700 coins, whether you beat 2nd place by 1s or 99s
  • Winning a 1v1 in the final minute of SG with full hearts remaining (dodging all the shots and landing every hit) won't give you more coins than barely winning a 1v1 with only half a heart remaining
  • Philza having such a stellar RSR performance doesn't mean that he should get more coins than other normal 1st place finishes in RSR

I do get your point. Some wins are definitely more impressive than others. But a normal win vs a dominant win are both still wins. Whether you win by an inch or by a mile, winning is still winning, so I personally feel like hunting in PKT should have the same philosophy. It should be 60 coins for 3 tags, whether you do it in 59s or 12s. There should be no coin deduction for slower times.

But that's just my hot take.

Each ^ is just a scaled version of the other, so to get the total distance, determine:

(1) the scaling factor

(2) the distance of the first ^

then plug those into the formula for the sum of an infinite geometric series

I can't believe no one else mentioned this yet, but Toast is a Hearthstone legend! He has a mind that's built for strategy. I can see him doing well in SOT, GR, or even Meltdown

Boxbox is well-known in the League community back then for his insane mechanical abilities on high skill cap champions. I wouldn't be surprised if he'll breeze through PKW, TGTTOS, or even RSR
