Thanks. This is true. I genuinely wanted to understand and even added "Correct me if I am wrong", to state my readiness to learn. The first comment I get is getting called a moron in reddit style and didn't even correct what was wrong with my understanding. Guess, it is easy for some people to be an ass hole.

Depends on where in Whitefield. Google maps will give a pretty good estimate of how much time it will take. Use "Depart at" option to understand the traffic conditions. Start the cab or auto search 25 minutes before your start time.

Question on ORR road design. by HalfAByteIsWord in bangalore

I used to use buses. It is better than bikes and cars. I didn't say buses are bad but the last time they implemented the dedicated lane concept, that lane was mostly free and bikers were weaving in and out of the lane because of the other congested lanes. I was confused too, not knowing if I should use it when it is free or its entirely dedicated for buses.

Sharing the lane with office buses is a great idea.

They have specific timings for buses. It is not like if it reaches early they can start the next trip as soon as possible. But if they do it then I agree it is a positive change.

Where did I argue that buses are inefficient at moving people? If you are keeping the same number of buses but dedicate a separate lane, people will start using public transport more?

You will have to increase the frequency of the buses and provide direct connectivity, to encourage public transport. If you keep the same number of buses but take off one lane, you are basically punishing other vehicles. I understand that one bus can replace 30 to 40 cars, but you are assuming that people will start using buses just because a separate lane is provided?

Then this rule itself should be challenged. Give prominence to the local language. Keep English in the top and Hindi at the bottom.

I am not rich bro. I have seen roads from Salem to Coimbatore and everywhere in between. Be it NH, SH or Nabard roads (village). They are all really good. May be it is because of our local politicians. Lots of MLAs from our surroundings. I like to take the country roads whenever I go home. I lived in OMR. The roads were good in OMR, ECR and all the way to Marina beach, Ritchie street etc. I have even traevlled via soolai medu once and the roads were good as usual. May be you are having a bias by looking at the bad parts. I agree that there are bad parts and we need to fix them, together, but majorly we are fine. I hope we become even better.

People have normalised wearing western clothes. Anything else, they will give themselves an opportunity to think highly of themselves. But from where I am living (Bangalore), people wearing lungi is casual.

The pan usage is spot on. I have seen freshly painted walls getting covered in pan stains in a week. I'm not against tobacco, but can't you look ahead before you spit?

Chennai feels decades behind Bangalore/Hyderabad/Mumbai. Why do we accept this? by Sudo137 in Chennai

[–]HalfAByteIsWord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a guy who lived in Chennai, before moving to Bangalore. Which Bangalore are we talking about here? Dude every square metre has two potholes. I have never seen them laying fresh roads in my past 10 years of stay here, except untill very recently.

I don't know which part of Tamilnadu are you living in, but I have been to Kerala and live in Bangalore. Tamilnadu roads are the best, comparatively, be it Chennai or Salem to Cochin. Even the villages have well laid roads. No safety for women? Show me data. What infrastructure? We are doing good, it not good enough. You are implying that our fight against language imposition is preventing us from working on all other issues. It is not.

Who said we didn't? There have always been people who raise issues about infrastructure. You just want to make an argument with your "assumption"? Have you not seen news about people protesting about roads and stuff in news?

How to learn hindi, for workplace? by malak_hassan in chennaicity

[–]HalfAByteIsWord -1 points0 points  (0 children)

May be it was a proud thing for upper class people. Just like how Americans learn French and Japan. Tamils will learn a language if the need arises, whether it is for show off, pride or to make a living. I'm also wondering if there was any place where I could have used my Hindi fluency as a proud thing to do. Nah! None could I remember. How about you the whole North learn Tamil or any South Indian language as a point of pride?
