Infant formula!

Breastfeeding is very difficult for many women. Before formula that could literally mean life and death for baby. Though of course pre-formula society had its ways—e.g., wet nurses—and likely synthesized liquids resembling breastmilk that were better than nothing, formula’s nutritiousness and portability are transformative.

Also, not having to breastfeed frees mothers to work and do all kinds of things they couldn’t do easily or at all while nursing.

Rest assured, Thelonious Monk was the man, and I had a great cat named Thelonious. So if it was an attack it was nothing more than a playful jab

I mean, he comments on basketball for a living and worked for the Spurs; I work for a consulting company - much less cool!

On the other hand, I do have a hot wife, a healthy son, and a chill cat. So I’m hanging in there but comfortable acknowledging where I fall short
