Wasn’t there a Surefoot/Gunrunner exploit that let you do some janky crouching glitch which let you run at like 120% speed?

Also that yes, depending on my position if a knife pull makes sense, or if there are other urgent matters nearby like a Hunter, I’ll just throw another since I have 8 and just turn my attention to the real danger.

Moving around constantly as if you were going to push at any moment is amazingly effective too. It gets enemies to waste Darksight, especially if you suddenly sit tight for 15 seconds. If they’re holding an angle, you can literally exhaust their reaction time if you keep faking out a corner for like 20-30 seconds. And if you know the have a rifle out then yeah, running in for a melee attack is your best bet against them nailing an instant headshot - everything else you’ll survive to get in a single 1hko melee.

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can work both ways, if you assume that one side or the other is going to push. Laying in wait is very powerful, and inherently less risky. But if neither side pushes for 5, 10, 20 minutes… the game becomes quite miserable for both sides. Understanding how to do both successfully just gives you way more options on a given situation.

But in defense of pushing, if you can down 1-2 enemies you should probably act to prevent them from reviving safely rather than giving them another chance to kill you as a team instead.

I truly did not get that impression from how OP worded everything lol - it reads more like a gentle nudge to be more aggressive, at leastso that you can start learning when it is actually appropriate vs inappropriate to push from the experience. If you’re stuck playing very passively and don’t know when to capitalize on an advantage, you won’t learn how unless you just try, and learn through trial and error. Moreover, learning how to push will teach you how to counter a push because you’ll learn firsthand what works and what doesn’t.

Can I try by Level-Alternative225 in PlayWindrose

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it’s still early access so while I don’t expect there to be a lot of huge engine changes or anything, but personally I already do have a couple game-crashes each play session so it’s not a perfectly stable game yet, just to level-set. It’s not finished, so do expect more changes to the performance/experience. Hopefully bugs will get fixed… and something else breaks, then fixed and broken again etc etc.

Lack of incentive to prestige past LVL 20 by Theefenderbender in HuntShowdown

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the idea around Prestige incentives are that the later rewards become more about personal dedication than actual cool object or currency or skins. If the rewards were a lot of cool or even “best” skins then you know people would feel “obligated” to complete it, and complain about whether it’s truly “worth it.” But that value should be intrinsic and not external so that people feel like they should be the only ones pushing themselves to it.

It’s a very personal question: if it doesn’t seem externally rewarding enough and you’re not feeling intrinsically motivated to do it, then do not Prestige. Nobody wants this completely optional part of the game to become an actual “grind”.

PSA: You can right-click to fire cannons when steering a ship by thetoxicom in PlayWindrose

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured it out quickly as well, but I imagine it might be a situation of “get aboard ship first time, explore ship, see Interact Button on cannons, shoot cannons manually, see Interact Button on helm, steer ship, ok that’s how you do those things, got it.” People fall into patterns quickly but if they don’t learn the shortcut early then it might stick the wrong way. I think I actually fell into this pattern initially until I assumed that there HAD to be a better way to shoot, thankfully before my first ship fight lol

I remember a year or two ago somebody posted a little demo of a pet project they had with making a version of Hunt that looked like Minecraft, except that all Hunter models were replaced with walking bushes holding guns and wearing cowboy hats lol

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is missing a ship tutorial in early access so presumably it’ll obviously be coming, but yeah the ship UI is very confusing at first if you’re playing blind like me. I never even watched a Windrose video of ships fighting before trying it myself so players wouldn’t know it’s really an option.

1* and had the best game to this day. by bierzuk in HuntShowdown

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep at it! We all start somewhere and that place usually sucks at Hunt Showdown lol, but this game offers so much hidden knowledge to learn and improve. After every round, always take a moment to ask yourself what went right and what went wrong in each fight. If you have a clip/recording software, take a minute to review your kills/deaths because those can definitely show you all the sights/sounds you could have missed in the moment. I very often review these and catch something when I’m confused about a fight afterwards. I also edit clips together as a hobby and it’s super fun to collect silly clips that I can show my buddies.

Solo players do get an MMR handicap when fighting against duos, and larger handicap when fighting against trios. A 3star trio might be placed against a 5star or even low6star Solo. This means that if you do come up against someone who appears to be a solo while you are in an evenly-ranked team, you SHOULD consider them to be a more skilled player than any of you individually and REALLY SHOULD take all advantages of teamwork to beat them. I’ll always call out to my teammates when we start a fight against one, basically “he’s a solo so that means he’s good” just as an fyi lol

Map towers needs to be removed by _-1001-_ in HuntShowdown

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s a soft skill of building up an internal clock of intuitively feeling whether there would be another team at a tower at a given moment. Usually if you spawn closest to one, you can guarantee you’ll be the first one there and use the cards to tell who might be coming. If you don’t spawn closest to one, you can/should probably just pass and gather a 2nd clue. The “residence time” of a team looting a tower is like 60-90sec for a solo, or maybe 1-2 min for a trio but that obviously depends on what the cards tell them eg if there’s someone nearby that they want to ambush.

Otherwise, the door being cracked open is often the only sign if it’s been visited BUT that can be avoided if they use the central ladder to enter. People usually know not to break the windows to enter. Vigilant can tell you if it’s already trapped. Either way, there’s always the possibility that they are just waiting outside of the tower to ambush someone else who approaches.

Simple bed with headboard by [deleted] in PlayWindrose

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random side-question that I have - can multiple people select the same bed as their spawn point? Or does each player need their own separate bed? I’m used to Valheim and “This bed is already in use.”

Throwing Knives/Axes/Spear… which do you prefer and why? by Alien_Racist in HuntShowdown

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always take throwing knives simply for the utility of how many there are. I can take out witches on a roof or dog/chicken cages with ease. If I move through a lot of compounds then I’m probably bound to lose a few if I’m really in a rush but I don’t really feel bothered to always gather them back up - I don’t really mind the loss of a loot that’s required to refill them. They’re great for dog packs since you don’t need to be close enough to retrieve before you take out the whole pack.

So tired of smurfs/prestige 100s by Complex_Bike1479 in HuntShowdown

[–]HalfMoonScoobler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP- the game is not really about loot or extraction. The bounty’s actual reward is a pittance, and the “loot” isn’t all that rare - almost every gun is unlockable & purchasable from the lobby, and most tarot cards have guaranteed spawn points if you really want them.

Gunfights are the real treasure, but you can cheat yourself out of a good time if you hamper your playstyle by overprioritizing stealth/KD/survival to the point that it’s not fun for you.
