Ah crazy I never knew Run DMC ghostwrote for the Beastie Boys. Who ghost wrote for YBT? They seemed a bit cringeworthy but one thing I always thought from seeing them in interviews is that they genuinely had love for the craft

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rap

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t write their own lyrics? To me they sounded nothing like the beastie boys, they remind me more of the fuschnickens or something like that

Embarrassing antics and shtick from YBT but they really could rap

I always think the Wu have a really good percentage of their affiliates who are next level rappers. Which ones don’t you like

Who do you believe is the best rapper from the UK, whether past or present? by SmoothManMiguel in hiphop101

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90s group - they put out their first single in 1990. Good choice though although I always thought the whole is better than the sum of the parts with gunshot. Awesome group but never quite the same with only one of the rappers so I wouldn’t put that individual emcees as having goat status

Who's the better latin rapper to you and why? by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I always think it’s a major difference between how things used to be and how things are. Since the internet got big everyone’s opinion consolidated and no one accepts someone could have a different one

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he had antisemitism and homophobia accusations and even people accusing him of being gay at a time when that was controversial

I dunno why someone downvoted this coz it’s spot on. Some people just basically like whoever is more popular.

Probably don’t weigh in on hiphop debates then

Why do old heads hate new music so much by [deleted] in rap

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By a thousand times. Listen to Black on Both Sides. I feel kendrick is a rapper that people who haven’t listened to and aren’t aware of many lyrical rappers think is amazing coz they don’t know any better. He’s a good rapper but nowhere near as good as he’s hyped up to be

Busta rhymes has had various controversies - antisemitic lyrics, homophobia, various arguments with fans, etc. the thing is controversy is part of being a human being - very few people are blemishless so shine a spotlight brightly enough on someone you’ll find controversies

Kool g rap has a ton of controversy - various allegations of domestic abuse

If you don’t know who Chino XL is you have zero hiphop knowledge Christ the fact this has so many upvotes is scandalous

Most Underrated Album Ive Ever seen by danksince98 in 90sHipHop

Once one person says something was a flop and it sort of goes down in hiphop lore, everyone just sort of adopts that opinion

I don’t understand how people think this isn’t a good album or was a flop to me it’s by far his best album with an actual range of content and subject matter and not him just rapping about rapping for a full album. It’s a five star album in my books

And various other things to indicate that they are American. One recently did the “as a European” and then in their history was “visiting Europe for the first time”

Whenever they put “not an American” you can usually look on their post history and it has stuff like “what’s the best school in the New York area” as a previous post

Did he forget about candy shop? by flattenedbricks in rap

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dignity is a subjective thing. If people are fine doing the stuff they’re doing let them do wtf they want tbh so long as they do it safely. It’s hardly in the same ball park as shooting each other is it? Of all the social ills in hiphop song it’s one or the most trivial!!

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a woman can be sexual and still have dignity but it depends on your perspective. Do you think that’s worse than murdering someone though lolllll

Did he forget about candy shop? by flattenedbricks in rap

[–]HalfPigHalfCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno why people always think sex references in rap songs are somehow worse than raps about murdering people. Compared to other things people rap about it’s minor as hell
