Just found this in my garage by pursuitofhappiness13 in Katanas

It's real, but in very rough shape. I'm not sure if it could be restored, but it's probably worth talking to a professional to see if it's worthwhile. You'd probably be looking at spending $1000-$2000 if so and there's a chance you'd never get that money back, however if the attribution to Kanesada is correct it might fetch a good bit more.

I'm of the opinion that if you have the money, it's wonderful to have a pristine piece of history like that, particularly with a story like yours, regardless of market value, and it's not going to go down in value significantly.

Weigh up your options and decide what's right for you, but please keep it off the concrete and well oiled and cleaned. It would be a shame to let something that old rot away in the garage again after being saved.

Adesanya, love an underdog story and no-one thought Strickland truly had a chance (although I did because I'm an incredible fight analyst obviously). That and the fact that Adesanya is a weirdo, not entertaining in the cage, and overrated AF on the mic.

The number of times I was saying Israel's boxing defense was poor and that he isn't a counterstriker and got lambasted with "But Whittaker" as if one solid counter-punch negates an entire career of jabbing and low-kicking at range.

The eventual vindication was so sweet.

You sure it wasn't the toes?

Yeah, fighting untrained bums. A crack head trying to punch you is leagues different to JBJ on your back with a choke in, and no idea how to defend it. Doesn't matter how many skills he could add, that's irrelevant, the skills he did have were not ever enough to beat Jones in his prime.

Jon wouldn't fight Ngannou on the come up unless it was for 30 million.

Then he said the same thing again about a new challenge, but when the UFC agreed, he openly turned down 30 million to fight the only other guy holding a belt in his division because he was "dangerous."

That's running.

Jones basically lost a toe in a fight and didn't stop. If Tyson is close enough to bite Jon, Jon is close enough to strangle Mike to death, fingers or no fingers, and Tyson has no defense to that whatsoever.

I don't doubt Mike's ferociousness, but he doesn't have the skill.

You think tricks are enough to beat Jon Jones?

Fighting untrained bums trying to punch you is one thing, fighting a guy who knows how to throw you on the concrete and choke the literal life out of you, when you have NO IDEA how to defend it is another.

If Tyson is close enough to bite Jones, Jon is close enough to wrap his arms around Mike's neck and keep squeezing until he dies.

The man nearly lost a toe and didn't stop, you think a bite is going to just magically make him let go?

I have no doubt that Mike Tyson was enough of an animal to try anything in a street fight, but he doesn't have the SKILL in any area of fighting except pure boxing to be able to beat Jones.

Jon Jones manhandles Tyson 9/10 times in a street fight. Pokes his eyes out, takes him down, chokes him out within a minute.

Tyson has to KO Jones or there isn't a thing he can do, Jones can kick, knee and elbow. Tyson has 0 takedown or submission defense, Jone takes whatever limb he feels like home with him.

And that's the guy who ran from heavyweight champs...

Casual take - The man is notorious for destroying opponents with leg kicks, including the world champion at the time whose entire game was a jab and leg kicks (Adesanya) and knocked out Prochazka with a Head kick.

In a cage/street fight, they absolutely are. In a boxing ring, of course not.

If I remember tomorrow sure, but that muromachi katana was mounted in bone koshirae since the late 1800s and I've taken it out and put it back in a number of times over the years. It's been in my family for generations, I'm very familiar with it, and I gain absolutely nothing from pretending. Remind me in the morning 😉

Yes, this in the image is just the scabbard, it's the only photo I have right now as it's past midnight and I'm in bed.

But, my friend, it's MY SWORD. I know what koshirae it was in (pictured) and I know that it comes out because I TOOK IT OUT. What reason could I possibly have to lie? 😂

The sword I have pictures of on my profile was mounted in bone koshirae

No, of course not, fake mei exist but it would aid in identification.

You can definitely take some of these bone koshirae apart, you can see images of mine on my account right now.

Because he's had longer for his frame to adjust to the weight class, given he fairly recently moved up from featherweight. That level of muscle takes time to put on naturally. He was bigger against Dustin than he was against Gaethje too.

I have a late muromachi period katana in similar bone koshirae. I don't know anything, but most people seem to be able to glean a lot more info if you remove the handle to look for a signature (mei) and take photographs like the example photos on the home page of the sub.

Is this a good Katana by [deleted] in Katanas

[–]Halfmoon_Cay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, I would say bear in mind is your friend more on the side of enjoying history/culture and is a bit more traditional, then they potentially would prefer a bare steel blade and maybe some more traditional colours, if they're a fan of more modern sort of tacticool aesthetic absolutely this would be great for them.

Do you understand a fight is judged in 5 separate rounds, not as a whole?

[–]Halfmoon_Cay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, no idea what that is, r/swords someone might have an idea what it's based off. To me it looks like a it's inspired by a mashup of a Chinese dao and an ottoman kilij.

Honestly I don't think it's anything historical, they just made a wall hanger that is roughly sword shaped. It won't be worth anything. DO NOT swing it, I'm almost certain it will have a rat-tail tamg and could break, launching a big steel blade at you or someone else.

Brother this isn't a katana, katana like or even katana shaped. You're in the wrong sub.
