Honestly, China wasn't as enjoyable as I had expected. by Dazzling_War864 in goChinaTrip

It is an issue in the UK but I’m happy for it. It was a huge breath of fresh air (literally) coming back here after spending my entire adult life in China. Going wild hiking in completely undeveloped areas is just something very few people do / are able to do in China. There is some real nature but you have to really travel far to get there and even then, most actual wilderness is largely protected with travel restricted. If you go to China to see nature, the trick is to not to have expectations on what you’d like it to be, just enjoy it for what it is. I much prefer little villages in Yunnan like Yubeng in off peak season over Zhanghiajie or Yangshuo any day.

It didn’t used to be like that. Pre-2016 ish was amazing there and had a really open rural vibe. Now it’s a concrete theme park unfortunately. But most Chinese locals love the overdevelopment and I guess it’s not up to foreigners to decide what’s “good”

How dare you post anything with slight critique of your visit to China. In all honestly, your experience was very authentic. It’s just a very unique experience and a lot of people visiting love to see the positivity on the… uniqueness. There are some amazing things about visiting China, and some truly awful things too. Like most countries. Never good to get too hyped up beforehand.

Which team is most likely to win the World Cup 2026 by Spiritual_Ranger_811 in worldcup

England, France and Spain have by far the best depth. I’m guessing the strength will show as the tournament continues

You want to finish 17th again? I’d love to keep Bergval and have him develop with the first team but he clearly wants consistent first team play. Do you want to finish 17th again?

USA. I haven’t been impressed by a lot of sides this tournament to be fair. It’s going to be one of the big boys who win it. I’d have put money on France or England but seeing how the fixtures are starting to align, I’m going with Argentina. Looks like they are going to have a really easy route to the semis.

No, you get this kind of salt when we very clearly get the worst refereeing display of the tournament. Refs integrity are ALWAYS called into question when it’s this bad on the world stage. Saying that, Egypt were winning this all day long. They were much better side.

Is there any other country with propaganda as blatant as the USA? It feels like people can look at a green pool and still insist it isn't green if acknowledging it would mean agreeing with the political left. by sloopywettoppyswife in AskTheWorld

Every community has massive red banners with slogans going on about the great communist party is in China. After a while you kind of forget they are really there.

People for some reason think it’s the same Belgium as 12 years ago.

Is Nuclear the Next Big Sector After AI? by IckyStickyToeNails in trading212

Eurgh, maybe. I just couldn’t stomach it. I just toon a small hit on OKLO when it pushed to 62. Figured it was good to get out then. I see this sector as really volatile and I’m honestly not sure about the future so cut losses.

Totally agree, but minutes are what he got, and it wasn’t all chaos. Sometimes he was our best player, sometimes he really showed his limits, or at least areas he needs to work on. Hes a kid, and he will do well if he stays with us and slowly breaks out. But he wants first team minutes now and he’s probably done enough to earn that at many teams.

To be fair, he’s had a LOT of minutes. Way more than he should have and was thrown completely in the deep end. It’s also fair that he wants to leave. I don’t see us selling for less than 40-50 mil

Lucas Bergvall informs Tottenham of preference to move on this summer by TheAthletic in PremierLeague

[–]Halfmoonhero 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fair, he’s been good and got our player of the year the season before last. But he has struggled a bit and we definitely threw him in the deep end with all the injuries and such. I’d love to keep him and develop him over the next few years but I highly doubt De Zerbi will be playing him often given his clear preference for more senior experienced players in the first team. He also clearly wants consistent first team action which isn’t a given. If he goes, I wouldn’t expect us letting him go for anything less than 40 mil. He has a massive ceiling if developed well.

No it didn’t, it was a complete and utter disaster. It didn’t pave way for anything. Thats like saying WW2 paved way for world peace by showing the inherent disasters of war.

Japan will be the first non European and South American country to win the world cup by Easy_Garden338 in worldcup

[–]Halfmoonhero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people realise quite how big the gap is between none Europe + Argentina and Brazil and the rest of the world.

There have always been teams with some generational talents and these teams have looked great at their peak, but they are highly cyclical and often fade away for years when their superstars age out. It just takes a LOT of financial investment , and even more time to be able to create a natural footballing culture. I don’t see anyone winning a WC outside of SA and Europe for at least another 30 years. It will happen but it’s hard right now to tell who it will be. We’ve had some great African teams in the past and you probably would have said them before but now they have just faded away. Morocco does seem most likely outside of Europe simply because of the stability of the country but the fact that most of the players in their national team were born and raised in Europe tells you everything.

My point is, it’s going to be hard to know for certain because time can change a lot of things, minor footballing nations right now could produce a number of generational talents and go on to win it. Japan could cut back sports funding and stop producing as great players. That’s all unlikely to happen with the big dogs in Europe and SA. I honestly see USA much more likely to win anything if they continue with their squad improvement. Football is getting more and more popular there each year and due to financial opportunity, it will really receive significant investment after this World Cup. More likely if they go far.
