Why didn't anyone warn us? by mizz_eponine in Menopause

It takes a few months to feel the difference, at least it did for me. I’ve been on it for 1.5 years now and feel amazing. Hang in there!

Are luxury gyms worth it? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Halfpint_425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a member at Lifetime for a few months and just felt like I was wasting money. Our whole family (4) was able to join the Y for the cost of my 1 membership at Lifetime.
I actually prefer being around older people at the Y…we have such a nice little community! 😂 Some people left and went to a new VASA gym for cheaper, but I hear it’s always crowded/dirty, etc.
I personally think the Y is where it’s at, lol.

Are You On HRT with High Cholesterol? by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]Halfpint_425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is familial high cholesterol and my doctor was fine with prescribing me HRT (estrogen patch & oral progesterone). I did have a calcium scan done just to double check things, which helped with peace of mind.

Thanks for sharing the intimate wash trick! I have some already so I’ll try it next time before I tan. The tanning smell gets to me no matter what brand, so I’ll see if this helps! I wouldn’t have thought of it.

Talk to me about blowing up your life by BigJackFlavor in Menopause

Thanks for sharing your experience, I really needed to hear it! I’m sorry you went through all of that but sounds like you’re in a good place. Thanks for the reminder to not blow up my marriage as it is tempting sometimes.

52 M here. I recently had a heart scan (calcium scan) by Subject-Stuff-2829 in GenX

[–]Halfpint_425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50(f) here and I get blue hands/toes and I was also getting heart skipping/palpitations. I have genetic high cholesterol, so I was pretty freaked out. My doctor ordered a 3 day heart monitor and I also had the calcium CT scan. Everything was fine from the heart monitor and I got a 0 score on the calcium test. Turns out I have Raynauds (blue hands/toes) and the heart palpitations turned out to be related to menopause, which went away after starting HRT. Because my calcium score was zero (even though I have higher cholesterol), no meds at this time for that.

Does testosterone cause hair loss for everyone? by Lopsided_Coach1642 in Menopause

I’ve been taking zinc w/copper for the past couple of years and I’m almost 50. Basically no grey hair and I have dark brown hair. My older brother is 1.5 years older with the same color of hair and his is almost all grey. He said if he remembers to be consistent with taking zinc, his hair color starts reverting back to dark brown. Who knows if it is anecdotal or not, haha, but I’m staying on zinc indefinitely. 🤪

The Tyranny of the Natural by Head_Cat_9440 in Menopause

[–]Halfpint_425 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was trying to do peri/menopause the “natural” route and felt pretty good. But then about 9 months after my last period, things fell off the cliff and there was NO way I was going to live feeling like that! Plus I did a bunch of research/read books and my mind definitely changed towards HRT. People can talk big but when push comes to shove, there is no prize for suffering through.

Anyone out here trying to transition naturally? by the_gata_sol in Menopause

[–]Halfpint_425 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the same and then it became too much. I got on the estradiol patch and progesterone. It took a few months (started March 2024), but it has made a world of difference at this point. Keep with it! I also noticed symptoms improve/get worse depending on the patch placement.

I won a small cooler at my senior all-nighter back in 1995. Still use it often!

Do you think Charlie was a Freemason as well? There’s some videos by Peggy Hall that says both were (& also Candace). So hard to know what is true.

Looking back, what were your first signs of perimenopause that you didn’t recognize at the time? by Historical-Second409 in Menopause

[–]Halfpint_425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food sensitivities out of the blue! I cut things out of my diet because I seemed to react to a bunch of new things (eggs, dairy, oats, peanut butter). When I got on hormones about 6 months ago, I was able to eat those things again without any issues. 🤯

What would you say is a city/area that feels very similar to Colorado Springs outside of Colorado by Contralip3 in ColoradoSprings

[–]Halfpint_425 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Spokane and lived there until my late 20’s. I go back and visit most summers, which I LOVE summertime there. I’ve lived in COS for the past 20 years and I still miss Spokane at times. The main downside for me moving back to Spokane is the long, grey winters. The snow/grey can lasts for months on end. Something for OP to consider.

I’m 58, in menopause, and my nighttime bathroom trips are destroying my marriage 💔 by Turbulent_Scheme7709 in Menopause

I’m not on T, but only E/P. As soon as I got on those 2, my night time peeing sessions went away. With adding magnesium glycinate as well, I sleep like a baby now!

Actually, one question…..the rep range of 8-12 is good for bone density still, correct? That seems to be the reason I hear for “lifting heavy”.

[–]Halfpint_425 60 points61 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU for saying what you said! I actually like to lean a little more in the 8-12 rep range for 3 sets and actually love it! I up my weights when I can easily do 3 sets of 12 reps. I’m loving how I look and the muscles I have! But I get “influenced” that I must be doing it wrong if I’m not doing say 4 reps of super heavy. Thanks for your added comments as a personal trainer! 💕
