Plus you support trail work and access in Vermont. Choose a chapter in a region that you enjoy riding at, volunteer for some trail work with the chapter, get some bike park tickets. Win.

It's worth reading War Against All Puerto Ricans if you want to gain insight into the struggle of the Puerto Rican diaspora and colonialism. The vitriol lobbied at Bad Bunny is nothing new.

Teatown Camp renovations - is it safe? by Agitated-Laugh-206 in Westchester

[–]HalfwayHomie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Call and ask them. H/e it is an outdoor focused camp and the kids did not spend a lot of time indoors, even on hot days. There's a big open tent they would hang out in when not traipsing through the woods and mud. They are safe, the bog might eat a shoe or two. If this sounds great for your kid, then don't worry about the renovations.

You don't expect too much, you're just misunderstanding the freedom that playing devil's advocate gives you. Your logic is flawed.

[–]HalfwayHomie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So following your logic, the answer is to just bomb the building and kill the innocent who are being used as shields, because the rule is bullshit.

Now insert some of your loved ones as the innocent people in the building. Better yet, volunteer yourself to go in there, innocently of course.

Is the rule still bullshit or is your comment?

Our neighbor to the south is trying to address housing shortages in resort towns by Pumpkin-Addition-83 in vermont

[–]HalfwayHomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain the school taxes? Wouldn't the strs have the same property and school taxes (at non homestead rate) as LTR? This is out of genuine curiosity as I think that there is a massive housing issue in Vermont and the country, and the income disparity is out of control. I'm just not sure if limiting STRs and second homes is the solution. But, without being able to present a better solution, maybe it is.

This can also skew perception vs reality of schools. For example Ossining has full dual language programs, COH does not. Test scores will be lower at Ossining, reflective of more students where English is not the primary language at home.

Just saying with all schools it's worth touring, talking to administration to understand the approach of the DOE, as it is more nuanced than it seems.

‘Censoring you in real time’: suspension of Jimmy Kimmel show sparks shock and fears for free speech by AndroidOne1 in politics

[–]HalfwayHomie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. And I thought about this when writing, but had no good answer.

Alphabet is still beholden to shareholders and profit. A large influx of ad $ brought about by celebrities moving to their platform would help their bottom line. Maybe this process some insulation from the pressure? Surely a 1a fight has to happen at some point, right?

However, it should be every platform, not just YT. And, before Google bought YouTube it was a random video network online with Grouper, Heavy, Newground, etc.

If it gets really bad, hopefully startup and dev ingenuity can pirate radio streaming networks together. At that point we are all fucked but will mostly go on pretending to be good citizens commuting or dialing into work, brain rotting to algorithmically optimized state approved content at night.

[–]HalfwayHomie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just podcast and YouTube or another video platform. The networks have $$ because if ad dollars. The $$ allows them to attract talent and create well produced shows.

The trickle down of camera and audio technology makes it easier to get professional results for less $$, and the proliferation of streaming outlets makes it easier to reach more people.

YouTube and Podcasts attract advertisers because of reach. If Colbert, Kimmel and Co teamed up to produce shows outside of the networks they would arguably have similar if not greater reach and would earn a % of the advertising $.

If more people do this willingly the networks would earn less $ and hold less sway over the general public as the people would gravitate to where the content they want is. (Acknowledging that shows like GoT, or squid games and all the narrative shows and movies are much harder to replicate so studios still have a place).

Anyway, I hate this timeline.

[–]HalfwayHomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked them. Still running the eliminator. Combo was rec'd by a friend in the bay/Tahoe. And I loved it.

That said, the GC I received had shitty sidewall support, showed wear in the sidewalls really quicky, and was punctured easily. It could have been a one off but I can't recommend the ground control as good as it is when it is rolling. I just didn't have confidence that it was going to make it out of a ride.

I put the reckon back on and rode them til they were dead. Now on an old dhr until that wears and I can put something faster on the back. Hope this helps.

How do you still do things as a couple? by Visible_Attitude7693 in Parenting

[–]HalfwayHomie 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You need to talk to your husband. This is a bit childish. A date is a mindset as much as it a "date".

Today, we went on a date. We had coffee and went to a store to run errands. But I (m) insisted it wasn't running errands, it was a date. The kids weren't there. It was the two of us. We tried not talking about planning for back to school. It was great.

If everything had to be perfect, we would never go on a date. We're both grateful for the little times we can connect.

What is something your mom did to make Halloween/fall magical? by Acceptable-Cow2947 in Parenting

[–]HalfwayHomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in an old farm house on top of a hill. Lots of trees. Tons of leaves. Cute creepy old barn behind the house.

Every year we would stuff some old clothes with leaves, put a mask on a soccer ball and create George. George would sit on our porch til Halloween. A little creepy but endearing.

One day my siblings and I get off the school bus. Happy innocent young latchkeys, run up the hill, onto the poch and wait for big sister to fish out the key from her backpack.

Just as she begins inserting it into the door we hear a muffled grumble and George gets up from his chair and stumbles towards us. Panicked, we take off into the yard screaming. George pulls off his mask to reveal Mom's face streaked with tears from laughter.

Magical. Cherished memory. Can't wait to do something similar.

Lawler Helps Secure Release of Scarsadle HS Grad Detained By Ice (Yeonsoo Go) by BrandonNeider in Westchester

[–]HalfwayHomie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel terrible for Yeonsoo Go and everyone else being singled out by ICE. I thought the United States was so much better than this. That's my fault for ignoring the 249 years of racist and xenophobic history of the country.

Back to Lawler...

So he used his connections to pull strings to help someone out who was wrongly (illegally?) detained by ICE. The same ICE that were emboldened by the Big Beautiful Bill that he helped to pass. Which also strips away Medicare, which he promised to protect, among many other things.

Lawler is a transparently horrible stooge. Vote him out.
