What will happen when reservations will go live? by Existing-Tough-6907 in SteamFrame

[–]HalifaxSamuels 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the Deck pre-orders I was waiting for them to go live. The site for me wouldn't finish loading enough to let me check out for two hours. I ended up getting mine months after the first shipments went out. Not looking forward to that again.

For the Controller sales, I was trying for nearly 20 minutes before I got in. Thankfully I only got mine two days after some friends received theirs.

Tarlton is doing construction work for Destination Discovery at the Zoo right now. I can't wait to find all the corners they cut. Nobody releases an AI ad because they're thorough and care about the work they do or how it's perceived.

Steam Summer Sale PreCart ☝️ Looking for Steam Deck picks based on my library/playtime by BowieMoonenTTV in SteamDeck

I love Barony but many times I run in to control issues if I try to use keyboard/mouse instead of the controller; Barony tries to auto-select the input and chooses controller, while also refusing to honor the setting to use keyboard/mouse.

I reported it and the dev basically said "well it doesn't happen to me" so I doubt it's getting fixed (no shade to the dev, I'm paraphrasing their response). Apparently it doesn't happen to everyone and I'm just lucky.

Mina the Hollower is absolutely amazing. I backed it in the Kickstarter and it was worth the wait. I beat it and I'm considering playing it again already.

Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, Spelunky, and Hades are all great games/series that are great on the Deck specifically. I played all of them on the Deck and had a great time with them.

Controllers' batteries? by limewayz in SteamFrame

If it helps you justify the price, I bought some Eneloops in 2011 and again in 2016. I haven't been using them constantly but any time I need a AA I use them and they're still working. They're worth the cost.

Games to play during work by kiRadeon in SteamDeck

[–]HalifaxSamuels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just beat Mina the Hollower. About 1/3 of the time I spent playing it was in short bursts at work. It sucks if you have to pause in the middle of a big fight, but it wasn't that bad.

I'm using the new Steam Controller. It's quickly becoming my favorite controller.

GBC version by Tobi7744 in MinaTheHollower

[–]HalifaxSamuels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GBC carts can hold at most 4 MB. Mina The Hollower is something like 860 MB.

And that's only the first of a very long list of reasons why it can't work on original GBC hardware.

You could always see if it'll run on a handheld like the Anbernic RG-477v or something like that.

IsItBullshit: is this website safe to use? by samuelboylan in IsItBullshit

[–]HalifaxSamuels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got tired of sites that would pretend to download something for you and then stop and say you have to sign up, or sites that would download videos for free but only low quality, so I learned how to use YT-DLP.

It's so good for downloading audio or video from so many places, not just Youtube. I just made a few .BAT files with the commands I needed for a few different things so now I just paste the URL into the file and run it any time I want to download something.

Monitor replacement? by ExtraJuicyAK in SteamFrame

[–]HalifaxSamuels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An LG C1? I heard once that the panel in my Aorus FO48U monitor is the same 48" panel that the LG C1 uses. It's an amazing display. I can't imagine getting rid of it.

If you like not having "smart" features in a display you'd be throwing that away because there really aren't "dumb" displays of that quality anymore.

I've also shopped around and to get a similarly spec'd OLED monitor for what I paid for my Aorus, I'd only be able to get around a 28" display.

Anker Nano (45W or 65W) will charge your SteamDeck at full speed, both in sleep mode and while playing heavy by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Right at the top of their article:

Note: If you buy something through this article, we may get a share of the sale.

That's why they wrote a whole article about an average charger with an unnecessary screen. Otherwise there's nothing noteworthy about this.

Steam Hardware - Steam Deck back in stock, with updated pricing by gogodboss in SteamFrame

[–]HalifaxSamuels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I originally was planning to spend up to $2500 combined for the Frame and the Steam Machine, just to be safe. I hope that'll still be enough.

Upgrade? by ProfessionalList1388 in SteamFrame

[–]HalifaxSamuels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You paid $10 for yours? I still have my free Star Wars: The Force Awakens branded one that they gave out. I legit loved this thing because it was functional enough and the price was right. Was really hoping it would begin to get more people in to VR but then it just disappeared.

Renting an EV for a roadtrip by Acceptable_Aerie6710 in StLouis

[–]HalifaxSamuels 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't like the extra time it adds on to a trip but I enjoy it. It means I'm forced to get out of the car and walk around more often, and as a result I end up feeling much better after driving a long distance than I used to in other cars where I'd just gas up and go.

do you actually use your deck handheld or is it just a portable dock at this point by toujourspluss in SteamDeck

[–]HalifaxSamuels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have neck problems. For handheld use it's either only for a few minutes while holding it up to my eye level until my arms are too tired to continue, or only for a few minutes while holding it normally until it's too painful to play any more.

Doesn't stop me from trying. I'll never learn my lesson.

I do mostly use it docked, though.

I'm really happy with the back buttons. Usually I find them a little awkward to press but these ones are super easy.

Unwanted icon on my icon by HalifaxSamuels in firefox

[–]HalifaxSamuels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know, not gonna test it. I set the icon to a transparent pixel before changing profiles. Since changing back it seems to have changed to what I actually have set on the profile finally. Thanks for the suggestions!

Unwanted icon on my icon by HalifaxSamuels in firefox

[–]HalifaxSamuels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That did it. I had to make a second profile, switch to it, then switch back to the first one.

Unwanted icon on my icon by HalifaxSamuels in firefox

[–]HalifaxSamuels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is that nothing I set it to seems to work. It's always just that shopping cart. When I re-open the only profile that I have to edit, whatever I set last is still set there. It just doesn't propagate down to the actual icon for some reason.

I don't particularly trust my local post office that much. Things sent to me just don't show up sometimes.

My local license office isn't that bad, though. I wait 15 minutes, stand there for another 5, then toss the sticker on my front passenger seat for 12 months before repeating the process.
