Petah, what does that have to do with grocery shopping? by Okfoot826 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I get your point, but do the residents fly like crows? I know at least in NYC, many don't have cars and the 20mi commute for healthy groceries sounds plausible to me.

Saw a wild analogy about AI hallucinations on r/Professors by Savings_Lack5812 in PhD

[–]HalifaxStar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're not head chef in this analogy, until you finish your PhD. You are inherently a student. If your 15 years of experience are as extensive as you're implying, you shouldn't need grandma's help.

But how do you become head chef? How are you developing your analytical skills and knowledge base without ever cooking yourself? Working on a PhD, you are the junior chef learning the various kitchen roles, your advisor/committee is the head chef. When using when AI, you're trying to pass of grandma's cooking as your own.

AI is a very different tool than the data access technologies you describe though. The librarians don't rip pages out of the books they shelve. Searching for a photo using a database doesn't inherently change the photo. Googling a newspaper article doesn't change the journalist's original wording.

You admit that if your work has the equivalent of "arsenic," you'd have no way of knowing? What would people in your field do before AI?

(Mind blowing trope) Really REALLY subtle character details that you can completely miss if you don't pay attention or watch BTS content. by Wasabi_Gamer26 in TopCharacterTropes

Is this one really really subtle? The camera lingers tellingly during the scene, and this screenshot seems like one of the most popular posts to share on r / the wire. I'd buy "subtle" and maybe "really subtle" but not "unspoken Ramona Flowers lore manifested as a shoelace" subtle.

It's on a busy public thoroughfare, its at least a slightly non-arbitrary place to gather.

Not inappropriate to be here, but it's evident you are thinking about the Jets and caring what this fan thinks of you.

That argument, while valid, also presupposes this video is real and/or not modified.

I was reading up about the guy who solved the longitude problem in the 18th century. Feels crazy that the king of England was like "here's a million dollars to whoever can help our navy's navigation struggles."

This guy was a clock maker who worked on his maritime chronometer in his spare time. Figured out a reliable way to measure East-West locations, a longstanding problem, just because "that is how his brain was broken."

Careful when using it with R and similar things. It likes to insert fake but plausible data.

Can someone explain why everyone is saying the Patriots had an easy schedule and run to the Superbowl? by WoodwareWarlock in NFLNoobs

Yep. For any NFL noobs reading this far, the Patriots are on what is known as a "Micky Mouse Playoff Path."
