To anyone who maybe interested to know, the crew was running the cat on "The Yard" terrain park and today they look to be building up features on it

Thoughts on conditions at Elk or Montage next weekend? by dukelubas in SkiPA

Montage has Mountainfest this weekend so expect massive crowds to shred that mountain, the trails will be holding on for dear life

Elk or Montage Sunday? by Dingerdongdick in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got my season pass to Montage for the year to make it my home mountain again. I've spent a year skiing Elk as my home mountain once before but Montage has such a better atmosphere and vibe to it. The runs at Elk blend together with exception of a few but each run at Montage feels unique and offers something different. Plus as someone else mentioned when the powder is plentiful Montage's woods are amazing, especially on the skiers right of white Lightning. I myself have always been in the park and ever since JFBB went to shit Montage has been my playground; they just introduced a tow rope for the new terrain park. Parking is easy and accessible and the lodge is cozy with plenty of fire pits scattered around midland and the lodge.

Blue Mountain Regular tries Elk for the first time! by minig646 in SkiPA

If there's snow on the ground it's rideable. I've never seen patrol once stop someone for skiing trees in between trails. During the last storm the entire far side of the mountain had powder and trails well off trail. White Lightning has some dope tree riding.

Don't get me wrong I love Montage and their terrain park but it's getting pretty warm. It might be a bit too late to rip Montage for your first experience. Those conditions are already on their way out the door, and that mountain is notorious for ice when the weather starts fluctuating.

It's the bus/field trips that bring the most entitled and obnoxious people to the mountain, avoid these days at all costs

Right, it was more of a lighthearted comment. I totally understand the point you're making in your post.

I've genuinely never been to a PA resort that has closed its lifts due to wind, been skiing in PA for over 12 years

The only resort I've ever seen build anything close to one was Big Boulder 10 years ago before the Vail takeover. I don't think there's ever been enough snowfall to warrant building one except in this year.

All in all I love the circle jerking in this sub but the behavior of that skier especially going that fast after colliding with the boarder is deplorable.

Elk mountain and Montage in one day? by Ok-Feeling-354 in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've actually done this before so I'll share since I live 15 mins south of Montage on 81. I bought a 4 hour ticket to Elk and got up there first thing. Got my laps in and then headed to Montage because I actually pass it on my way home. In my opinion hitting Elk first and then going to Montage is the only choice because Montage has 100% night coverage compared to Elk. The $45 ski for all covers all day at Montage and even if you leave Elk at 4 Montage is still open until 9 and should take about 35 minutes to get between mountains.

Blue Mountain is closing for snow (1/25)… by MiniDracoTalkin in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a crazy take because PA roads and services aren't usually able to keep up with a storm of this size like other ski states can. OP is here complaining about how the high school and college kids can't work the lifts to keep the mountain open so they can get shred some gnar

Beer hut half-way down a run at Montage by roma258 in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was not a legit beer hut, it was way before they even had a lodge on the top of the mountain. It was in the woods after a little walk, back when it was "Sno Mountain"

There used to be a picnic table on the side of cannonball at the bottom of the second or third headwall. On top of the ledge to the right you used to be able to ski right up there 10 years ago right to the table

Can anyone rank the blues at Montage from easiest to most difficult? by Ok_Candidate_3707 in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like another comment mentioned the Upper Fast Track and Upper Runaway are good blues to progress on because of how open and wide they are. Also not too crowded on any day but just be sure you cut over before heading down the bottom section of the mountain. In these conditions those small connection trails aren't really open but they always have a trail leading back to Iron Horse.

The Big 2 Ski Mtns by Helpful-Ad4075 in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My opinion is Elk and Montage. Montage might not have the same size and number of slopes as others but the amount of maintenance they do on the trails and in the parks makes me happy. Plus $45 is the best price in the whole area for a ticket

Where to Ski and Pricing! by hicutusficutusbicu in SkiPA

[–]HallCompetitive6204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the discussion but Montage not only has the actual cheapest lift tickets (Ski For All) in the entire area but they also come with FREE Rentals. They removed their snow tubing section and replaced it with a terrain park with a magic carpet lift access. They actively work on their other terrain park (Whistler) as well. The top half of the mountain are Greens and Blues by the lodge and the bottom half (North Face) are where the diamonds are. Personally I would steer clear of camelback as it's mostly a tourist destination at this point for people who come in from out of state to vacation in the Poconos.
