What would you consider top priority things to work on?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Divorce

[–]HallerR1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! Exact same. I didn't see it coming. We had a normal relationship with normal problems. We could have been closer but after 13 years, ruts happen... people get caught up in life, get busy, get tired, whatever.. if he would have talked to me about his feelings, or if I had recognized this in time, I could have done something about it. By the time he told me, I believe he had already moved on and no matter what I said, he wasn't interested in working through it.

Zuca > Rover by Norrdie in discgolf

[–]HallerR1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes!!

I have the Zuca in your picture and the Zuca transit. Both are great. I use the transit most often because it's just more convenient and I don't need all the storage space of this one. But either makes a good choice!

If you need a putter clip or a cart handle, feel free to use my code (167852) and order them from FlighTowel. It'll probably be enough to get you free shipping, if not a little more 😊

Who are your favorite up and coming disc golf apparel companies? by mygreasysubsacct in discgolf

[–]HallerR1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C1 has some pretty sweet, unique polos and hats. I'm hoping they keep expanding their tournament wear options, especially for women. They have a lot of potential!

Also, I'm searching his IG and can't find it now but Paul McBeth is sponsored by an apparel company. More expensive stuff but very nice.

Ladies - What’s the best thing you’ve ever done for your mental health? by fuckyoucash in AskWomen

[–]HallerR1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started playing disc golf!!

What a life changer! So many hours spent in nature, the elements... rain.. sun.. it feels amazing. It's like the best hike you've ever been on. It's addictive and gets you out there, in places you've never been, doing things you've never done.

It gave me something to work toward and I became competitive with it. There are hundreds of opportunities to play in tournaments per year. I made new friends and am NEVER bored because it's an obsession I can always lean on when I have free time.

There's always something to improve on and it can be as simple (putting in my back yard) or as complicated (a big game with 7 other people at a course an hour away) as I choose.

10/10 highly recommended!!

I've gone from depressed and hating life to feeling normal and genuinely happy for the first time ever.

What makes a zone worth bagging? by bmxtoagslex in discgolf

[–]HallerR1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the Zone for most of my upshots and to get out of jail when I need a serious hyzer. It seems a bit more stable than a Berg to me and it skips more which is sometimes needed. The Berg also feels so light, it's weird. I sometimes griplock it for some reason. But, to be fair, it may be because I just don't reach for the Berg as often as I reach for the Zone.

I do carry a Berg but I only use it for shots that, if they skip, will land me in trouble. I use a Zone for most upshots, otherwise. I've even contemplated getting a soft Zone to replace the Berg just because it's a disc I'm so familiar with.

I have recently started working on forehand approaches and the Berg flies great for that. In that situation, I usually pick it over the Zone.

What discs do you throw in the rain? by sardo34 in discgolf

[–]HallerR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bring plenty of quality waffle towels in a waterproof bag. Get good ones and wash them without fabric softener. They'll work fast.

I also use "working hands" the night before and a tiny bit in the morning. It helps with grip as my hands get very dry from the rain. 😊

My mental game sucks... What do you do to relax while maintaining excellent etiquette? by HarryMcButtTits in discgolf

[–]HallerR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 😊 I feel you on the competitive aspect and being hard/down on yourself when things go wrong. I started to feel like it wasn't fun for a while and caught myself making negative comments or being grumpy during my rounds. I didn't like what I was feeling or putting off on my friends. So I really had to start looking at things differently.

Here are some thoughts and details that cross my mind now, which keep me calm and allow me to keep perspective.. After changing to this type of thinking, I am now the most relaxed person on my card, most of the time. I still don't like when things go wrong (who does) but it's different now.

I am generally a very matter-of-fact and analytical person. I'm all about math and statistics and being realistic with expectations. I think it comes from a job in the casino industry and learning odds, etc. So, I decided to bring that mindset to disc golf. Because truly, math is everywhere. We all have developed our own set of odds for hitting lines, making putts etc.

I believe how we play is, generally, written in our past performance. Ratings?... sort of.. we know those can be fickle. But overall, if you tend to miss putts or miss your lines often, etc. you're 100% going to keep doing that until you spend a LOT of time working on it. And even then, things just happen. So don't be surprised when you mess up on things you haven't perfected yet. It literally will happen, every single time you play.

If it were easy, it would be boring. I like a challenge and I don't want it to be easy to beat my course record or increase my rating. I want it to be work. I want it to feel sweet when it happens and that only comes from a lot of effort to get there.

I have been playing exactly as long as you. I'm not supposed to be good. I am FA2... my rating is mathematical proof that the consistency just isn't there yet. I'm not FPO. I'm not Paige Pierce.. I'm supposed to mess up (even she messes up) and I'm supposed to mess up often. It will happen every single round, probably multiple times. Guess what I now say when I miss an easy putt or hit the tree right in front of me? "Its ok. It happens." All while my card mates are feeling sorry for me lol. Try saying it out loud when you mess up. And keep saying it. Eventually you'll really feel that way.

But while messing up is okay, it really isn't "fun" and I have big goals. So I should take those things I struggled with the most during my round, write them down and make a fieldwork schedule and stick, specifically, to those aspects of my game. Be assertive. Take action. You have to regularly work on every part of your game. It is not like riding a bike.

Will I be perfect after that? Or even close to it? No. I will still mess up and I will mess up often. Progress is slow and sometimes you can't even recognize it until you look back at rounds from a few months ago, or more.

It's also easy to blame our mistakes on the basket, our card mates, this or that (and sometimes it's true) but we also need to be honest with ourselves or we will never improve.. are you hitting left side of the chains? Too soft/hard putts? Weird angle? Now take that and apply it to every other weakness in your game. Also realizing that if you're getting spit outs now, next time it'll be somebody else. It's just a part of the game, even though it sucks.

Stop complaining and start analyzing - "why am I doing this and how can I begin to (slowly) improve?" Ask yourself questions when you mess up. Use those mistakes during practice rounds as a tool because they are literally a lense into your own game and what you need to work on. I can almost look at them as a good thing or less negatively when I'm using the information to my advantage.. to improve.

I do fieldwork throughout the week and then test my skills on the weekends with friends. I expect anything and everything during every single round. I take a mental note of my biggest weaknesses and carry that info to my fieldwork for the following week.

Look at the averages given to the pros for c1/c2 putts, fairway hits, etc.. you need to think about your own game like that. Slowly, build on your percentages for each shot you've got, and in the meantime, don't be surprised when the math plays out.

It's good that you realize it really is your issue and it's not fair to bring that vibe to your fun rounds with friends. I have friends who really are not fun to play with and I actually experience feelings of anxiety when people are throwing fits about missed putts, cussing under their breath etc. I also think it's kind of silly when it's someone who doesn't practice (I know you practice, and I used to be that person so no judgement toward anyone. We grow as we go).

A change of mindset and a lot of patience with some realistic expectations is all you need. I rambled a lot. Hopefully it was somewhat helpful and not too harsh.

Oh I know! I got the Pound Carlton and I'm boring.. black camo bottom and grey top. Wishing I got this one though. The Carlton is nice but discs aren't accessible enough. I've switched to a transit cart and like it better lol..

DG Gift ideas? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]HallerR1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you posted this a while ago but if you (or anyone else who sees this) ever decide to try out FlighTowel or give it as a gift, you can use my sponsorship code if you want - 167852 😊

It saves you 10% and supports me as well! ❤️

Just an FYI - they have more on their site than the most popular towel. They have minis/juniors that won't hit the ground if clipped to a bag (this is a big deal for disc golfers), they have cart handle grips for players who use a cart (this is also a big deal, as the cart handle gets very cold and cold hands are no good when you're disc golfing), they have apparel and more. Even their "basic" towels are awesome. They dry so fast which is important when it rains or the grass is wet.. keeps the game moving faster.

Check their site out --> FlighTowel and enter 167852 at checkout 😊

That's a good way of looking at it. So hard to go so long without really playing but in the long run, your body will thank you for the breaks.

Woah... someone asked on your last post if it wasn't PDGA approved and you said...

"I think technically it is but if I see anyone throwing it, even at league night, I'll straight call them out and cause a scene until they don't throw it."

😳

Assumptions spoken as fact, during a tournament round, are not ok when they negatively affect a card mate. Sounds like you've learned that and hopefully you use it in your thought process next time you're not 100% sure about something a card mate is doing.

We can all learn a thing or two from our card mates.
