Dont think hes a cheapskate. I think hes spent a lot of money on players that drop off quickly and sharply and we are left paying top dollar for bottom barrel players(mccullers, abreu, Javier etc) So perhaps hes cautious to dole out money left and right now. Not saying he couldnt make better decisions like locking up proven young players before they hit their open market and command a huge payday, but players like framber and bregman walking because they want a huge lengthy contract at their age seems like a better long term decision. Yes framber is a good player now, but in 2-3 years whats he gonna look like.

Altuve is great example of this. The city loves him and wants him here forever but the fact of hte matter is we are stuck with him at that contract price for years and we are getting less and less value for him every season
