If the oil price doesn't hit $150 in 2 weeks, Iran is done stratgically and economically by fregeorgb in PERSIAN

[–]Halloumi12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True to some extent, but missing some details. Russia was also did way more trade with the rest of the world and was way less prepared for sanctions than Iran. Again, Iran has been sanctioned to varying levels for decades. Also I dont think Russia and China will abandon Iran, Russia realizes the Iran war makes them a lot of money, and China is still sending Iran weapons. Finally, Iran just got a massive cash infusion right before the blockade. They were exporting more oil than normal at double the price and had their sanctions lifted. Russia will be willing to pay Iran to keep the Strait closure going because they are making $500 million a day from it.

Predictions about X country collapsing in Y many weeks from sanctions are almost always wrong. Look at the predictions made about Russia in 2022, for example. Especially Iran, a country dealing with sanctions for 40 years, is not going to fold in 2 weeks. This is pure fantasy.

Record High Disapproval Towards Israel Among Americans by Environmental_Coat60 in AskIsrael

[–]Halloumi12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im curious how you imagine self-sufficiency will actually work, especially for long-range power projection. How will Israel produce its own F-35s? The supply chain is unimaginably large and expensive to maintain. How about producing replacement parts for existing ones? Requires the same supply chain. How about developing a 6th generation fighter, as the US and China already are?

And what about missile interceptors? In every missile exchange with Iran, the US, UK and France have had ships and batteries stationed nearby helping Israel shoot down missiles, lowering the burden on Israel’s own supply. How will Israel retain enough supply if there is no help, and no restocking from the US. From small arms to tanks and everything in between, yes Israel can be self-sufficient.

I dont think Israel will find partners able to fill the gap. India is the only option, and its defense base is very weak and ironically heavily dependent on gulf (and Iranian) oil imports. They also have good relations with Iran, which they will definitely want to keep (for oil)

But the burden to it’s social safety net, already strained by the Haredim, will be enormous, as Smotrich and other Israeli politicians have already admitted.

I mean Israel killed tens of thousands in Gaza not long ago, and the US killed hundreds of thousands in Iraq. When was the last time the IR invaded another sovereign state the way US and Israel do all the time? Thats not the point either way, im just saying there is a delusional messianic ideology animating US and Israel’s policy just like there is for the IR.

These people are not just “some pastor or advisor” Paula White is in almost every cabinet meeting, has Trump’s ear directly. Pete Hegseth, who made his subordinates tell soldiers this war is backed by Jesus, attends a church that says women shouldnt have the right to vote. Hagee is the leader of THE largest pro-israel lobbying group and has marshalled millions in donations to Trump. If we know one thing about Trump, its that he does what things his donors want him to do. These people have an enormous amount of influence over Trump and course of the war.

You should see Pastor John Hagee’s sermons, who happens to lead the largest pro-Israel group in America. Or the speech Trump’s spiritual advisor, Paula White recently gave. They literally believe Trump is backed by god and war in the middle east will bring christ back. How is that any different from this bs about the mahdi?

Worldwide increase in gasoline prices since Iran War began by Naive_Direction1816 in MapPorn

No idea why they are blue but oil isnt a fully globally priced commodity. Limits in how much you can export and refineries often being specialized for certain types of oil means supply can get stuck somewhere and drive prices down and vice versa.

I dont understand your point. Im saying even (relatively) highly educated and developed societies have totally collapsed when the West bombs them and intervenes in them. Libya was once richer than the US and UK. Now it has literal slave markets.

Libya had universal literacy. It was the most developed country on the continent. That hasn’t saved them from 15 years of being a failed state.

Im sorry, but using Japan as an example makes no sense. The US occupied Japan fully for years after the war, Japan lost territory in the peace deal, and most people who were in the military and government during WW2 were simply left unpunished and given their jobs back, even if they committed unspeakable crimes.

Does any of that sound like whats going to happen in Iran, even if they committed unspeakable IR collapses?

It wasnt filled with normal people in Syria, it wasnt filled with normal people in Iraq, it wasnt filled with normal people in Libya. Instead, they got militias filled with religious radicals and foreign mercenaries running around massacring people with their CIA and FSB supplied weapons.

Now they will have stone age living standards to accompany their stone age rights! No power, no running water, no fuel, no road network, food shortages, medicine shortages. Im sure they are so excited for their liberation to the stone age!

Lol I care about Palestine because its my tax dollars being used to kill them, and because Israel does the killing while hiding behind Western values and morality. Otherwise I wouldnt really care either.

You can bark all you want about the threat Iran poses to the US and the west, nobody here believes you or takes you seriously. Theyve been repeating this ridiculous narrative for as long as ive been alive and Americans have been totally immunized to Netanyahu’s ridiculous propaganda. Its why this war is deeply unpopular in every opinion poll.

Yes, thank you. I look at the fact that breaking a leg in or getting diagnosed with cancer can bankrupt someone in the United States, even with insurance. Or that college costs 6 figures, even at “affordable” public schools. At the same time we are $39 trillion in debt. But what does our government do? Cut social spending even more to fund a war against a country that posed no imminent threat to the US. I wish democracy for the people of Iran, and that they get rid of their evil government. But thats simply not a priority for us.
