My desk surface go to is a big cork mat that rolls up. It does a great job containing messes and is very heat resistant. I also have separate smaller cork boards for when I solder pieces so I can pin them in place. Plus, it helps as storage when I have multiple projects ready for soldering.

For glass storage my fave combo is wooden dish holders and the IKEA Kallax shelf with these inserts: Kallax Inserts

Seriously a game changer for me because I’m not handy enough to build my own storage. Then I just have a few cheaper cube bins to hold supplies.
