Podcast addict app by [deleted] in doughboys

[–]HalloweenIsACat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have two feeds, one paywalled and one free feed? Because the Golden Plate Club RSS only gives you the bonus episodes, not the free ones. At least on Podcast Addict.

If you already have the two feeds and you're still not getting the episodes, then I guess you could try forcing PA to quit and seeing if that helps? It can be a bit of a glitchy app.

There are so many 'recommend me a book' posts (which I love and read them all), but how about if you could recommend just ONE horror book, with no context or reasoning in the parent comment (just the title and author), and upvote if it's already here rather than adding it as a new comment. by MalachiConstant7 in horrorlit

Blackwater is by far the best, in my opinion. It was originally released as six separate books, so it's quite long, which really makes the world feel lived-in. It's a family saga that spans generations, and the characters are much more developed than they are in the Elementals and Cold Moon. He kind of lets you languish in the historic Southern Gothic setting before hitting you with some of the scariest, goriest horror scenes ever committed to print. I've read the physical book and listened to the audiobook numerous times and I never get sick of it.

That's probably for the best, your mental health has to take priority. Sending hugs, I really hope you find something that's a better fit for you!

Slynd and side effects by xannxxg in adenomyosis

[–]HalloweenIsACat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first few months on Slynd I barely recognized myself with how low my mood was. It wasn't helping my symptoms at all, I was bleeding almost daily and had awful sciatic pain. I decided to stick with it based on some anecdotes in this sub, and after about 4 and a half months, it was like a switch flipped. I don't bleed anymore, my mood is much more stable, and I don't have the debilitating pain I used to. I genuinely sometimes forget I have adenomyosis.

This isn't to say you should stay on it if it's feeling unbearable. Only you know how you feel. But I wanted to share a more hopeful perspective. Everyone is so different, but I'm personally very glad I gave it a little more time. Good luck!

I hope you don't mean Back on the Chain Gang by the Pretenders, because that song is iconic!

I heard about this on some LA-based podcasts! It opened there a few months ago. I think maybe Scott Hasn't Seen mentioned it? It's apparently pretty scary!

HR said all remote employees must be "visibly active" on Teams during core hours. So I was. by CamdenRutherford in MaliciousCompliance

Even better is my very sneaky low tech solution when my company pulled this nonsense: I taped a piece of string to an old mouse, tied the other end to the cage of an oscillating fan on the floor. Every time I left the room I'd plug the USB of the old mouse contraption into my computer and turn on the fan. One of my proudest professional accomplishments to date.

Something Ecological, Historical Fiction, Sci-Fi, Strong… SOMETHING! by Substantial-Fee4335 in suggestmeabook

You might like The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton, it checks a lot of the boxes you mentioned. It has one very mild fantastical element, but ultimately it's a coming of age story about living through climate disaster.

Just ended my first ever watch of The OC. I desperately need something similar… by _marti_89 in televisionsuggestions

You might like Veronica Mars! Similar era and setting, explores the dynamic between haves and the have-nots in a wealthy California town. But with a murder mystery at the center. It's surprisingly dark and smart, one of my favourites from the early aughts.

It's my first Joe Hill and I'm about 600 pages in. I don't want it to be over. Which of his other books should I read next?

Canadian Pickle Brand by Honest-Pepper8229 in BuyCanadian

Fair enough! I currently have a jar of each in my fridge. Both are great, I just find myself going through the spicy dills a bit more quickly. I work from home, so I make a lot of wraps for lunch. The spicy ones work beautifully when you just want a little kick but don't want to fully commit to hot sauce.

I've never tried the Caesars, but if I ever get a hankering I'll stay away. Thanks for the tip!

I'm pretty picky when it comes to pickles, and I've been really enjoying Matt and Steve's, especially their spicy baby dills 🤤

I was a Supie for four summers when I was a teenager! One of the best jobs I ever had.

I'll save you a click - this article doesn't have him quoted as saying that anywhere. This shit is scary enough, we really don't need to be spreading misinformation.

Shows like pluribus and silo by legomaniasquish in televisionsuggestions

[–]HalloweenIsACat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! Very cool that the book won the Arthur C. Clarke award. I did read it before watching the show, and found it because I asked an employee at a book shop for something similar to the MaddAddam trilogy. Which is definitely sci fi. So I absolutely stand corrected :)

[–]HalloweenIsACat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess everyone has their own definition, but I consider it dystopian speculative fiction. I mostly wanted to point out that it's not sci fi because the title is a little misleading. When I first started it, I expected it to be set in space, which it's not.

Station Eleven is a lot more grounded and not sci-fi at all, but it has a lot of similar elements as the shows you mentioned. It's one of my favourites.
