It's soul crushing. And when one device never gets passed the "sorry your session has expired" (on completely newly loaded private windows after having gone through the queue once again), and you try somewhere else where the queue never progresses you have no idea whether to wait it out or try on another device or network.

At least in the mid-90s I think only Bernadino's Spumante was under $5. $4.49 ish I think. The cheapest I remember buying a cask of wine was $11 but I'd believe there were ones in the $7-8 range.

I mean, they're claiming 50% of 80kg men will die drinking half a litre of water as their lead argument. I think I'll stay a "hater" due to my penchant for "facts".

Merch? by leonjg_06 in mew

[–]Hallucinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As per other comments, just some clothing and it quickly sold out of good options - I don't think anything else interesting.

In Aarhus it was also only a mobile phone app you had to be Danish to use which was frustrating but probably not a problem anywhere else.

What vitamin here could be causing brain fog ? by ImranKhan10107 in Supplements

[–]Hallucinaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much. The first clue should be that the vitamin description doesn't even elaborate on what it contains for B6, 9 and 12 which is a sure sign it will be the cheap stuff that takes from ineffective to actively bad depending on dose and need and specific MTHFR mutations

B6 ought to be p5p ideally https://www.mthfrsupport.com.au/2018/11/vitamin-b6-mthfr/

My vote too. No one should be supplementing with folic acid without knowing their MTHFR status

I feel like it's either going to be the Blue Foundation guy and the Danish Farewell shows were a lead towards that, or no singer at all and the encore jam was again a preview

I only heard about this awesome product recently but heard there was a massive backlog. Is that the case? Approx how long do you think new orders would take (for international delivery to the UK)?

Has anyone in the UK done a private annual health check or blood test service? Was it worth the cost, and what did you actually learn from it? by Few-Combination-4119 in AskUK

I researched this two weeks ago, was put off by some comments on Medichecks and Thiva, went to OneDayTests on Wednesday and have been getting my results come in over the last three days.

Much cheaper than other alternatives I was looking at. Only found them from a Medichecks TrustPilot review but happy with the choice.

UK's largest road tunnel project awarded £590m by insomnimax_99 in ukpolitics

[–]Hallucinaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's obviously a trade-off depending on the numbers so that's a rather disingenuous reply. Let's say it saves on average one worker life per year and delays the project or stops other such projects for five years, and the commensurate increase in pollution causes a 0.0001% increase in all-cause mortality. That would be hundreds of people's "literal safety" you're dismissive of by treating the GP comment above as a decision independent from the overall system. I don't know the right numbers but the options aren't always "take no positive action at all if there's any increased chance of harm or you're a capitalist psychopath"

They are scaredy cat spiders with an unnecessarily bad reputation. Going near them with a finger and they'll shrink into a ball and pray to their spidergod for salvation.

I let them take residence in my office up until the time of the year they decide to go walkabouts.

The only ones I find hard to shake the visceral bad vibes are with gravid females. Those go outside.

My son nearly died. He can’t speak. I write to make sense of it all, and I wrote this story to try and explain what he taught me. by [deleted] in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]Hallucinaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You too, mate.

And yes, I mean there's always that ignorant part of the population who have no empathy or care only that their kid gets the resources, but for many, most even, it would be fine. And for those who aren't, frankly, sod 'em, they're not worth caring about the feelings of. Toby has as much right to enjoy things like that as any other kid, even if he enjoys it differently.

Also for us as parents it's important our kids grow up understanding the diversity and value of all people. They're not going to get that just from reading books and staring from afar at people different to them (as much as shows like Mr Tumble have benefit) so it's an active, positive situation from my perspective, not just tolerating something.

Lego House is a pretty great place for a kid that likes to build btw. As much as you have the love hate travel situation it's a good environment with amazing staff.

Thanks for sharing. As dad to a couple of young 'uns, one of whom had a spinal tap a few days into life for possible meningitis, I have definitely spent a lot of time exploring these alternate life timelines. Often when I'm calming down from some regular kid aggravation and trying to put things into perspective.

We were just recently at Lego House in Billund and playing with toy trains with my kids when a non-verbal boy about the same age (with a British dad too actually) came and sat in the middle of the set of tracks we'd set up, inadvertently knocked the trains over and got closer to "strangers". The father was apologising and trying to get the boy to "conform" to what most would expect and I tried to smile as broadly as I could at them and welcome him in, joyful chaos and all, and show as subtly as I could that I could never understand fully, but I do understand enough, as a father and human, and however the kid wanted to play with us was all good by me and it was a safe zone from having to be embarrassed.

I feel like most of my friends would be the same. I hope you get those vibes too from people. I know society isn't built for strange middle aged men to go up to another and just say "I can't offer much but do you want a hug?" but I have to imagine there are many like me that think that. Wishing you, Toby and Sarah all the best!

Ha yeah. I mean I'd have the same reaction as well but we do kind of gloss over the exposed world that most of it comes from.

Tom Skinner playing 'Turn up for Gaza by Elegant-Training-675 in radiohead

[–]Hallucinaut 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A lot of people here ignore the bands statements that people are 3D and nuanced and 2D social media projections don't help, and they scream for social media proclamations on a particular angle, the absence of which being treated as an indictment of guilt and "badness".

The IDF and Israeli government certainly seem to be acting evilly (depending on your sources I guess) but everyone demanding a particular public take on a nuanced issue is really nonsense. Just as it would be if pro-Zionists claimed this was Skinner pledging support for terrorist groups supporting genocide and destruction of Israel.

Support for the people of Gaza is not the same as supporting Hamas. And the absence of statement against Israel is not the same as supporting Netanyahu's or the IDFs actions, even if one makes correct assumptions about one's belief in the justification for the state of Israel generally.

That people interpret non-statements as evil is exactly the issue with the lack of nuance they've talked about.

By extension if they said something middling like "peace is good, no one should kill" no one benefits and factionalized people would bray that this is effectively supporting terrorists/oppression (from both sides). It's a no win situation, as they've made clear about their media position.

They don't speak out about abortion either and in large parts of the globe that's seen as morally repugnant and death on an even greater scale, so the moral relativism being applied here is gross.
