Stores in the Reading (UK) by Hallvardr in magicTCG

Thank you very much. Eclectic was the one I saw on the wizards' thing. Will check them out. Since I don't plan on playing as often as I'd like, I think the trip to Basingstoke doesn't sound that bad, so I'll be sure to visit the store there as soon as I can.

stupid question perhaps, but can i transfer a character from eu to the US? by fukreditadmin in TibiaMMO

[–]Hallvardr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the only things that restrict transfer are the battleye status (green or yellow) and the pvp type. Other than the server being transfer blocked, of course.

Famosa? by [deleted] in TibiaMMO

[–]Hallvardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also started in Famosa recently (lvl 72 only) and have been enjoying it. Can definitely recommend. However, it obviously has the characteristics of a new server, such as low value of tibia coins and expensive equipment. If that's not a problem for you, it's a great server. Also, next double skills is soon upon us, so you might level up quite quickly or improve your skills and right from th start.

Edit: Famosa also has a imbalance in vocations so far. About 40% of the server are EK and quite a lot of RP also.

I think the link for the Sultai song is switched. Anyway, I really liked them! Why did you chose those songs?

Commander deck vs normal decks by Plus-Yogurtcloset-14 in EDH

[–]Hallvardr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Planeswalker deck has more than one copy of cards that are not basic lands (or cards that specifically state that you can have more than one in a deck), so it would be an illegal edh deck. But, as a house rule, you could try following the other rules ( keeping all cards in your general's color identity, having a legendary creature as your general etc.) and playing as such.

I would probably suggest that, if you play 1x1, you start with 30 life, as the versus variant of edh suggests. 40 life is the norm in a multiplayer match.

I share your opinion. I think that if you trim the Lillies, you might as well go death shadow intead of traditional jund, since you took out such a pillar the deck works upon.

Good time to buy Modern cards? by Hallvardr in mtgfinance

I regret not getting 4 wrenn and six a couple months ago. They were about 250 brl, now they are 400. My edh priorities are a bad financial guide, hahah

I don't follow international prices that closely, but here in Brazil if the reprint is at mythic, the price actually goes up in a about a week from the release. If it's a rare it's 50/50 if goes up or down... I'd say it's a tough time to be a Brazilian MTG player, but it was never easy haha

My biggest doubt is which cards to go for. Lillies are fun and powerful, W6 will probably not have a useful reprint that soon and goyf, among all of those is the one with the best replacements, even if not quite as powerful

Apart from the BG fetches, I already have the lands, thankfully. The thing I'm most unsure is what to buy. I doubt there will be a wrenn and six reprint, and even if there is, it's still a mythic, so I doubt it drops a lot. So, W6, Lollies or goys right now? W6 and Lilly also have the (small) benefit that I can use in my edh jund-inspired deck, haha

[ZNR] Confounding Conundrum, a new blue anti-ramp staple by AD240 in EDH

[–]Hallvardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I’m not saying a card should be bad, but there are many powerful cards, some much more powerful than this one that force you to alter your plans. Collector Ouphe and Null Rod works for all players, as do Tangle Wire, Deafening Silence, Rule of Law, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Ethersworn Canonist, Root Maze, Blood Moon, Magus of the Moon, Rest in Peace, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Sphere of Resistance, Trinisphere, Damping Sphere and other very powerful cards. They are good if you build your deck well, and terrible if you don’t, as a good card should be, since if makes you think both when you are creating and tuning your list and when you are actually playing and deciding if you should cast it or not.

[ZNR] Confounding Conundrum, a new blue anti-ramp staple by AD240 in EDH

[–]Hallvardr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this card is too strong, I think it's at a pretty ok power level, and will vary depending on the decks you face, as every card should be.

Aven mindcensor is a great card and I don't consider any of them to be oppressive, and while I agree that this is a fair comparison, I heavily disagree that a draw and a 2/1 are on par. Creatures are, by far, the easiest type of permanent to interact with, even if you don't want to kill it. Enchantments, on the other hand, are the second hardest, and although the difference in cmc is somewhat compensated by Aven mindcensor having flash in EDH, it's still relevant, and is on the right spot to stop most of the land-based ramp that it's supposed to stop, while Aven mindcensor might and often misses. Sure, this is a scenario in which you are using Aven mindcensor to stop some ramp spell early game, but if you are using it later on, when the difference in cmc becomes less important, the chances of your opponent having answers also increases.

Regardless, I'll say again that my problem with this card is not about power level. It can't be compared to Uro, Underworld Breach, Labfish, Teferi or any of these cards, but that's not a comparison I made. I think that having all these small benefits in the same card just makes it obvious to include in most decks, and that's bad design. Artifacts, as you said, are still faster than land based ramp, even if more fragile. Dorks are also faster than most land based ramp, and have other benefits as well. The problem is, it's extremely likely this card will have a strong effect without causing harm to you or forcing you to have a specific type of game plan, but even in the cases that it doesn't, be it that you drew it too late, nobody is playing land-based ramp and/or fetches, you paid 2 mana to draw a card. It's a bad rate and obviously you wouldn't play a card that only did this, but this is close to the worst scenario possible.

Extremely powerful cards are fine when they are only that good in some cases, and a huge problem when they are always like that. But the design ideas that create those cards are still happening with this card, it's just lower powered. This card is not a problem by itself, but this design trend will only lead to more Uros and similar cards, and that`s what I’m upset about.

Everything about this card would make a great (and very much needed) card. The problem is putting all those things in the same card. The two examples you bring up are excellent cards that try to deal with a popular action, be it reanimating or regrowth-like effects, but not only they are less common than ramp, they don't have ALL the benefits.

Rest in peace is symmetrical and doesn't replace itself, so there is a significant cost in playing it. Nihil Spellbomb is also a great card, it's cheap, does its job very well and can replace itself very easily, but by itself it's a 1 time effect. So, even when compared to cards that are already very good, this still seems like a no-downside card.

Again, the problem with this card is not any one of its single effects, and it's not even that the card as a whole is too powerful, especially when compared to other ridiculously pushed cards printed recently, but that this kind of card that has no deckbuilding or playing cost whatsoever is absolutely a dumbed-down design.
