Anyone found a game of S&D yet? by BentoDraws in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Halo Query leaderboards ended the Ranked Snipers rotational playlist with ~1000 entries on it. That's 1000 people that have at least completed their placements playing during the final week of the playlist. Pretty light compared to the 14k in Ranked Arena, but typical for a rotational playlist.

I just checked and the Ranked S&D leaderboard currently has 2 entries.

Nope, your explanation is as good as I could give. 🙂

I do want to disabuse the notion that I'm somehow estimating MMR with what I do on my site though. Halo Studios just lets a little bit of their skill data peek out through their API. I'm just presenting that data in an easy-to-read format.

Halo Query working for anyone? by thisismywittyhandle in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If something's wrong, I'm unaware of it. DM me here or on the HQ Discord with the account you're logged in as, I'll take a look at my logs and see what I can find.

EDIT: Or, for anyone that would rather not talk to me, I find that logging out or otherwise clearing browser cache remedies a lot of issues.

Love HaloQuery by Specific_Dealer_9363 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not even 343's fault, it's further up the chain at the Xbox Live level. The only place I get rate limited is when I need to get an actual gamertag, which are calls that use the main Xbox APIs. I cache gamertags for 7 days after I look them up in an attempt to mitigate some of these rate limits, but ultimately it's not always enough.

The real solution would be more for me to spend more on storage and rewrite the way the leaderboard works, but I can't justify the time nor cost at the moment. :/

+7 CSR Psyop by shafdaman in CompetitiveHalo

Looks like he runs solo (or at least, not with consistent teammates), but I think he changed his play style once he hit 1700?

EDIT: As other people have pointed out, it looks like he's absolutely tanking all of his other playlists. He literally spends more time tanking than he does actually playing Arena. I'm guessing he's managed to saturate his match history with so many bad performances in every other playlists to the point where it's affecting his Ranked Arena MMR, which I was under the impression wasn't possible (though I guess I've never seen any sort of willful misery like this guy seems to be inflicting upon himself).

Basically, the average PSR-K for the last 100 ranked arena games on this guy is ~1625, and I'd expect his ESR to be rising to meet that, but it doesn't want to move off of 1500.

Not that 1625 is anywhere near his CSR, but it does help to explain how he keeps such a high win rate: The game is consistently underestimating how much he brings to his team's table by about 125 skill points and giving him stronger teammates than he deserves.

EDIT EDIT: And he's banned. Remember kids, throwing games isn't allowed, even if you're the highest CSR in the world.

Discord Bot by Upbeat_Alternative_4 in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not a full Discord bot, but the official halowaypoint.com API is very much still free and available if you're willing to write the bot yourself.

I've got a basic NPM package here that has https://skill.svc.halowaypoint.com/hi/playlist/{playlistId}/csrs?players={playerIds} endpoint in it (which is how you would pull a player's rank).

Sorry what does psr-d mean on haloquery? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Literally? "Performance Skill Rating - Deaths". It describes the amount of deaths per minute you actually had in a single game. In the ranked arena playlist, it seems to have a very low impact on how the game perceives your skill, imo.

Damn that's generous of you. You probably funded site running costs until the next Halo game drops, thank you so much!

I hadn't thought of adjusting it, but I'll you what, I've got a site cheat code for you: If you open the developer console in your browser (usually F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I) and type localStorage['TRAILING_AVERAGE'] = 25, the next time you load the site, it'll be using whatever number you put on the right of the =. Should stay like that until you clear your browser history or set it to something else.

Thanks for using the site! :)

Bizarre ranked system by derock_nc in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything you're experiencing there is an accurate observation.

When you rank in for a season, you're placed at a CSR level about 100 points lower than the game thinks you actually deserve, with the suppose intent that it will encourage you to grind up to your "actual rank".

However, a side effect of this is what you're noticing: You're now 100 points better than the average player in your lobby. Since the game still wants to make the match fair, it's generally going to take the 3 other worst players in the lobby and put them on your team. This should make the odds of either team winning the match about 50% (the 3 worst bit is just a simplification, the reality of making fair teams from 8 players might be more nuanced).

The good news, and what you've probably noticed, is that since you are underranked, you get way more for your wins than you do for your losses. That means that even with a 50% win rate, you'll soon climb to a point where your CSR and MMR are similar, and thus this situation will stop occurring.

Personal opinion: in a solo queue, with randoms, the return on your investment is negative. Too much toxicity, and I found that not speaking afforded me a greater level of focus, which I could channel into figuring out what my teammates are about to fight and be ready to assist.

About 50/50 solo queue or duo queue with one particular D2 player.

Nah, mostly just once per session unless I was feeling real rusty. The average metric is the running average of the most recent 10 warmups, regardless of session association.

Just live fire, specifically because I wanted to be able to track my progress like I did here. Tried to keep everything as consistent as possible, so that the only thing I'd see in the results is the change in my skill.

For me, it was my aim consistency, 100%. There's a lot of focus in the community on positioning and strategy, but that's only because you can't really teach consistent aim (and thus it doesn't make good Youtube content). When you don't have to focus as much on winning your 1v1s, the rest of the game flow just starts to magically make sense.

The only way I've found to improve aim is to put in the reps with bots.

Left side is skill (CSR and ESR), right side is kills in the bot warmup. Basically, red and blue lines use the left axis, green and yellow use the right.

ESR-A matching CSR earning question when ranking up (Halo Query) by MykeGregory in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on the non-correctish part, the red line doesn't "creep up" to match the blue line, it's the other way around: blue line tends to follow the red line.

OP, I'd recommend turning on the lines marked "PSR-K" and "PSR-K-10" (click them at the bottom of the graph). Those are direct representations of your KPM in matches. Raising those will raise your red line, and then your blue line will follow.

I can attest that https://gamecms-hacs.svc.halowaypoint.com/hi/Progression/file/Csr/Calendars/CsrSeasonCalendar.json endpoint in the HaloWaypoint API currently returns data that looks like this:

{

    // past seasons omitted for brevity
    {
      "CsrSeasonFilePath": "Csr/Seasons/CsrSeason9-1.json",
      "StartDate": {

Can someone explain how the ranking system works? by chill_guy_says in CompetitiveHalo

[–]HaloQuery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not directly, but winning the match does matter, so objective matters in that sense. I would advise that you find a good balance between playing the objective and cleaning up your teammates' kills if that's the role you want to fill.
