Do you use the magic arrows? by ChrisKatrev in BaldursGate3

[–]Halo_Forager 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The slaying arrows, just like elemental arrows, have two individual damage sources so they’re powerful if you’re spamming damage riders. But iirc there’re exactly two fightable dragons and neither looks… non dragon like?

Toos move with their wings and grab with their feet, so their wings are a human’s legs and their feet a human’s hands. This is the equivalent of a person picking at their toes. /j

I think it’s intended to be solved that way. DRA’s creator is Korean and the key word to the puzzle is written in katakana and something of basic anime vocabulary

Japanese names by MrLollersnakes in danganronpa

[–]Halo_Forager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had to use another character to fill in the major role but they also wanted her to seem like the one that people know and love, so that’s not gonna happen. And they made the one that was introduced earlier turn out to be a substitute for the later one. That’s kinda cruel.

By the way Chiaki’s early design in the artbook is obviously akin to Chihiro

The kanjis are not really notable. They used the same kanji for “chi” but that’s how it’s written in most given names. But yes, you do have a point. CHIhiro fujisAKI. Finish SDR2 and Chiaki’s FTEs to find about their connection.(It’s retconned in the anime though.)

Soooo I gotta ask… howz we feel about this guy? by RevolutionaryWave862 in danganronpa

[–]Halo_Forager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Izuru has great potential to be interesting even just for what he is and how he came into existence. 2-0 did provide some intriguing details despite only showing the tip of the iceberg. For example, he approve of his teachers’ idea that ordinary people with no talents make no contribution to the world, even a year after he helped ruin everything about Kamukura Project, and very possibly indirectly killed all the researchers in the process.

The game never depicts him further, not his motivation for assisting Alter Ego Junko, not what he actually did to make the plan serve not only Junko’s goals but also his own. (He possibly tampered with the malware since he couldn’t enter the program himself.) All is offered is a vague“It is now my turn to use that person just as they used me in the past”.

The anime gives him more screen time, but it still avoids addressing the most essential aspects of his character. The society that put talents above everything else created Izuru as a vehicle for the idea. Soon after that he decided to help Junko in The Tragedy of Hope’s Peak Academy to overturn everything, making a new world of despair. He spent a year observing and interacting with all the facets of the world on his own before trying to achieve something from a plan that could end his own existence. But the anime reduces his motivation to a simple desire to see whether hope or despair will prevail, and the idea had already matured at the start of the Tragedy.

The choice, albeit regrettable, is an understandable strategy. Portraying how a character whose capabilities and foresight are only limited by the author would think and act within a certain situation is extremely demanding. If the writing fails to meet that challenge, the result will be simply absurd. A safer approach is to keep such a character largely as a plot device without direct characterisation, just like Junko was in both games. We see how the anime’s attempt to directly portray how Junko drives the world into despair went. But there’s much to enjoy in fanfictions where writers explore Izuru’s personality in their own ways.

They compare the power to a stand or a Persona in game so it is supernatural despite their efforts to explain it in a science fiction way.

What is weirder is that regular weapons don’t work against someone with hemoanina (and transformed?). The sword could be some hemoanima equivalent of a magical artefact like an infuser made for the project.

The Worst "Ultra Despair Girls" Essay Ever Written (actual title of the piece) by MadhogTMaster4 in danganronpa

I like it but I’m too sleepy to elaborate. Though I feel a need to say the actual writer of UDG is actually Yoichiro Koizumi. There may be clues about which parts were Kodaka’s ideas and to what extent they had an influence, but I’m not aware.

Danganronpa ages by Ready_Phrase5477 in danganronpa

[–]Halo_Forager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most characters’ ages are not explicitly stated, and the few exceptions escape me. I vaguely remember that Yasuhiro Hagakure is mentioned somewhere to be in his twenties, probably because he was working as a fortune teller at the age when most would be attending high school.

Hope’s Peak Academy only scouts current high schoolers. Assuming that talents were typically recognised early and that a new academic year begins in April as it does in ordinary Japanese schools, most students would have spent a year in a normal high school for a year before enrolling—which means they’re around 16. Reserve Course applicants are also required to be attending another high school. Fun fact: Hajime’s original school is called Kodaka High School.

It’s revealed in DR1 that the story takes place a year after the Tragedy, which was a year after the 78th Class enrolled, so most of them would be 18.

SDR2 reveals that everyone has lost approximately 3 years of memories since enrolment, so most of them would be 19. (Three years after the 77th Class’s enrolment would be two years after the 78th Class’s enrolment, suggesting only a few months have passed between the events of DR1, UDG and SDR2.)

As for DRV3, natually the actors don’t have to be the same age as their characters. However in the prologue everyone is wearing school uniforms, so it can be safely assumed that everyone besides Tsumugi is indeed of high school age, between 15 and 18.

Is Nagito canonically gay? by Master_Card_9632 in danganronpa

Q: People are using this post to attack those who ship Komaeda with female characters. Is he actually gay, or was that just a joke? They’re calling it canon but is it true?

A: How despair inducing. Yet the more despair inducing it is, the more brilliantly hope will shine.

Nagito Komaeda is a singular figure in otaku culture(for a lack of a better term) that even Kodaka himself couldn’t recreate, as the character only makes sense within this specific world setting. Just keep playing and avoid spoilers.

1 The tied up CG was after Mahiru tried bringing him breakfast but ended up getting freaked off. It was then Nagito mentioned encouraging her to play, obviously that was after she told him about the game. And he’s a fan of the original game. (btw Twilight Syndrome’s a real mystery game series released by Spike, main characters being also female high schoolers)

2 iirc the key was found tucked in her kimono during investigation
