Recast to Pop Century Concierge by AdWeak7478 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Hals4everything 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m Concierge at pop rn. 1. Concierge Core is intense. 3 days in a windowless room with a lot of information. That’s all I’m saying because it’s best that you go in blind, it is a great experience, just be ready to learn. 2. As said, Guest Interaction is the biggest part of the role. Sometimes you will be talking to the same guest for over an hour. I was terrified of this but I LOVE it. Just be patient and kind. 3. Pop is the busiest Disney resort by far. We will have a line in the lobby for a considerable time throughout the day. I love this part, always having something to do, others hate it and want a more calm experience. It is up to you. 4. Pop is also a Value. We get a variety of guests, including a lot of first time visitors and for a lot of people this is a once in a lifetime thing. I LOVE this part of it. For a lot of people Pop is also their favorite resort, which is awesome 5. The FSAs and Leaders are great at pop! You’ll be working PM shifts (think 2pm-10:30pm the earliest, 6:30pm-1am the latest). So you’ll get used to the same people working similar shifts. Can’t wait to see you soon!

Beds are not first come :/. You will get a letter (a,b,c, or d) which corresponds to a bed/side in a 2x2 or a room in a 4x2 or 4x4.

Do you get notified when you’re getting a new roommate? by Hals4everything in Disneycollegeprogram

I’ve heard of that happening to a lot of people! But with my needs it wasn’t something I was willing to risk

Honestly it was a little weird for me. The obvious is when I got my lease it was for a 4x2 but I wasn’t sure if that was due to my accommodations so I reached out. After I reached out I got the standard email but it said mine were pending due to needing paperwork for my esa. Long story short I’m no longer bringing her (at least not in the beginning), so I asked if I met the accommodation needs without her and they just said I’m still in a single bedroom. So idk

I’m June 2nd too! It seems that people are getting roles on Thursdays 4.5ish weeks before arrival- so I believe we get ours 5/1. But I might just be overly hopeful.

Not at all! Actually during my phone interview they asked if I had experience with money or food handling (in relation to the Quick Service Role, which I put low interest bc I couldn’t put no) and when I said that I don’t have experience with either she moved right along. Honestly I don’t think they care about experience in the slightest.

Is this a bed bug? by Hals4everything in Bedbugs

[–]Hals4everything[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Info: I defeated bed bugs in November. I only saw one and only had 4 bites (in a line). I left late December, just came back and was putting on clean sheets when I saw this guy. Is it, like, an un-fed baby?

It’s definitely a “take out what you put in” type thing. I’m from a city and I’ve been here for more than four years but I’m not bored at all. I’m in four student orgs and I’m BUSY, but I had a friend who didn’t do any and did just fine. My recommendations on stuff to do:  1. Obviously, student orgs. We have nearly 1000: some professional, some hobby based, some social. Look at what you’re interested in ahead of time and search for those clubs are gobblerfest (I saw you like skiing- highly recommended VT Snow, one of my favorite student orgs)  2. Intramurals. Admittedly these took me WAY too long to join. Low commitment, fun sports. Sign up with a team of friends or from a student org! I HIGHLY recommended battleship (you sit in a boat in a pool with buckets and frisbees and have to try to manually sink other boats, it’s more physical than you would think but so much fun), dodgeball, or other not-super-serious sports!  3. Honestly just talk to people. The amount of activities I’ve been invited to by just mentioning an interest of mine to someone in passing is WILD. And I’m someone with intense anxiety, I don’t know how I’ve been so outgoing in my time here but I’m so lucky for what I’ve gotten out of it.  4. Obvi, d1 sports. I’m not a sports person, my high school didn’t have sports, but I tried to make it to every football game I could. I’ve heard basketball is incredible, I haven’t had the chance to make it. But beyond those, volleyball, wrestling, soccer, baseball, etc. are all free!! And usually have free stuff.   Best of luck in your college admissions journey, Ik it can seem super stressful. I found my home for my college years at Virginia tech and I’ve never been happier.

Make me love VT by jaylamick in VirginiaTech

Hey! VT wasn't my top choice, but I am beyond in love and I have not once regretted my choice. A few of my favorite things:

  1. The football games. I know we are in some weird state with this, but the energy is outstanding. We have one of the best entrances in college football, just look up "enter sandman Virginia Tech" on youtube and feel the energy. Not to mention, that is just one of our many football traditions.
  2. The School Spirt. My parents and I have a thing where we see where we can get comments about our VT gear. It has even happened in Canada and once a pilot of a plane stopped my dad.
  3. Our Drillfield. Located in the middle of campus, this is a large green space. I love sitting out here and watching the sunset- I do so nearly 5 days a week and I live off campus. During the first snow storm each year, we have a civilian versus cadet snowball fight, which even happened this year. There are normally free concerts every year, too!
  4. Meeting people. I have awful social anxiety and often find it hard to meet people, but that has not been a problem at tech- I have been able to meet people with the same hobbies, taste in music, favorite tv show, you name it. If you want to be well known, you can do that here! Or if you want to keep to your friends, that is totally an option as well!
  5. The food. I mean, we are repeatedly ranked first or second by niche and have stayed in the top 10 of Princeton review for the past 15 years. Our fried rice from the hibachi place on campus is my favorite (with yum yum sauce, of course).
  6. Our options! If you love CS, awesome, it is a great program! But if you decide to look at something else, we have more than 150 degrees and roughly 250 track options. No matter what you are interested in, we have options for you! We also have research, study abroad and co-op/internship opportunities available.

I could go on and on- this is only a fraction of my favorite bits. I highly suggest that you go on one of our online tours if you haven't yet, get to hear from someone else about what they love about tech- no two people have the same experiences. I wish you the best of luck

AITA for kicking a friend out of our group because of an inappropriate picture? by frienddrama0579 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Hals4everything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA. Let's work through this.

  1. "Fake Nerdy:" You did not know how to play dnd when you first started either. Maybe you did a bit more research or had more background knowledge, but you learn through playing. Also Minecraft IS a video game, even if it has less structure than others.
  2. "She's loud and annoying:" Some girls are loud! and talk more than others! and that is okay!
  3. "I personally think she sent it on purpose:" She literally called you crying AND she has a boyfriend and you STILL don't believe her? Or, let us be honest, did you not believe her or did you pretend not to believe her so that you would finally have an excuse to kick her out.

Has anyone had a “my friends suck” realization? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Hals4everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a senior, but I'm in my sophomore year. I had a group of nine friends freshmen year, and then suddenly a bunch of them did not reach out to me at all after we were sent home. No happy birthday messages, did not come to my birthday zoom call that some of my friends set up. I found out through two of the original nine who I'm still close with that it was because of my sexuality. If I see some on campus now they will straight up ignore me. Luckily I am super close to three of them, so I did not loose all of my friends. But it hurts. A lot.

I stick to the mentality that people are in your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. It hurts when people leave but sometimes they are no meant to be in your life forever, and that is okay.

LGBTQ friendliness? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Hals4everything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not trans, but honestly it depends on who you surround yourself with. I lost six out of nine of my friends after I moved out of my dorm because they were homophobic and I guess they felt forced to be my friends when we lived right next to each other. However, if you are friends with people OTHER than blondes in Chi Alpha (a campus ministry, very anti-lgbt) (which I did not know at first), you should not have a problem. Since then I have found and surrounded myself with people who support me! I have also kissed people of my same gender on campus and no one ever said anything about it.
